Today my brother and I started up a new game of civ. I went for polytheism like I usually do as my starting tech. After it was researched and I had discovered Hinduism, I realised that buddism hadnt been founded yet. So I researched Meditation and founded Buddism as well. Of course once youve founded two relgions you gotta keep going. I managed to found Judism, Christianity and Confucism.

None of these religions had spread to any other civs. This was because I hadnt signed any open borders agreements and didnt have any connections to the outside world. I figured that it would be a great strategy to not spread my religons and keep them all for myself. Hoping that this would screw my opponents up (religion can offer quite a lot of smiley faces) and prevent them from building large cities.

So I figured that the best way to prevent their spreading would be to adopt no state religon and adopt theocracy. However a few turns later, cyrus adopted a religion and so did elizabeth.

I really want to see if this strategy of not allowing anyone your religion affects the game. Is there anyway to prevent religion spreading, seeing as the way I described doesnt work?
