When I play Civ 2 (MGE), I find that I can never build Nuclear Plants (and yes I do have the tech) and the only thing I can put it down to is the Manhattan Project, as by that stage of the game I always have heaps of production to spare and build Manhattan Project just for the hell of it...Is there another wonder that has this affect?

Yay, this is post #1000 for me :)

It isn't the Manhatten Project that results in the inability to build Nuclear Plants; rather, it is Hoover Dam that prevents the building of Nuclear Plants by providing the equivalent of a Hydro Plant in every city.

As for the Manhatten Project, it has been observed that by building it, not only does it allow the construction of Nuclear Missiles, it also tends to double the availability of Uranium for the purpose of trade.

The MP is VERY useful - primarily because it allows you to produce the excellent sound effect of warning sirens followed by a satisfactorily bassy explosion, while watching your enemy's city going up in smoke!

Interesting... I didn't realize that!! And I'm a Uranium-centric trader in late game (oil in Midgame).

I just LOVE to nuke the AI in games that will not reach my HOF, which has a minimun req over 1000%. So, I just disregard score and have a nukefest. Sometimes, I even sell my SDIs and give the AI nuke technology so that they can nuke me back. THen I launch 20 or so at their cities and wait for a response of 4-5 and then I launch cruise missles and then I paradrop. Then I go to the next AI without cleaning up!!

Thank you, Andu! :cooool: I will test this on a game where very few of my 200+ cities supply uranium. It's been a little dicey matching up supply with demand when everyone wants uranium! :nuke:

OK, I just though of something that maybe others might not be aware of. I kindof assumed everyone knew, but maybe it might help:

The commodities produced by a city change as the city grows. If you have fast-growing cities like in a Democracy, it can really pay to PRB (Partial Rush Buy) the freight with the commodities a small city produces, and wait until the city grows about 10 citizens in 10 more turns before delivering it. The cost of buying this freight (don't build it.... buy it) is typically very small compared to what you'll get. A great example is Copper. I used to wonder why so many cities want it, but only a few make it. Its usually made in smaller cites... if you wait until the city is size 20 making 50 shields a turn, Cu probably won't be made anymore. So if you like a commodity a small growing city is making, buy it and deliver it when the city is bigger!!

 Just one more reason why Civ2 is superior to Civ3! While the trading system is more cumbersome in Civ2, it allows the true strategist in all of us come out. Thank you for the tip!:goodjob:
