Do you think that the overall nature of the US it's i.e. a high proportion of conservative faiths relative to it's population, it's traditionally isolationist moral outlooks in regards to the west and the general population mix is conducive to a high level of Homphobia or a significantly higher one than other simillar countries?

Feel free merely to vote? it can be as anonymous as you like.

This may indicate perception of the US as well as whether there is a higher level.

I would say certain parts of the country are. But not as a whole, no.

At least not in any of the areas i visited.

If you keep going north from northern Virginia you found the most liberal part of the country. California is pretty liberal also.

I cant say for sure if most of the country is homophobic but i dont notice it around here at all.

non US citizen: no the US is no more homophobic than others
non US citizen: no the US is not more homphobic
non US citizen: about the same

What is the difference between the poll options?

Yep I completely cocked this pole up. Maybe I should put up another rendering this one obsolete?

Oh and i want to add that its a common view that other countries think that the country here is highly christian and it is but most of the people are light to moderate christians.

Around here it is entirely possible to be christian and have no ill will towards other religions, people who are gay, ect.

Its really just the fanatical christians that are publicized. Like the 7 day creatonists. In fact i have never met someone personally who was a creatonist.

The common liberal american who is christian probably isnt homophobic.

The US is a pretty big country. Maybe it seems like we're more homophobic because there are more homophobes here, than there are people as a whole in most other develpoed countries.

Oh brother. When they say 'two people divided by a common language', they aint kiddin'.

It really depends on where you live, and what constitutes the developed world.

The area I'm in now, (DC, Northern VA, southern Maryland), is about the most liberal part of the country. We have huge gay communities (maybe the 3rd or 4th largest in the country?) Mayor Williams has actually tried to court gay men as one of the demographics they're trying to get to move back into the city (population loss)....so, no. DC isn't homophobic.

Columbus wasn't either (oddly enough, Columbus is the 2nd gayiest town in the country, besides SF), although the towns around it sort of were. There is a difference, I think however, between "not approving of the homosexual lifestyle" (which many people in America do not), and "being homophobic and hateful towards gays), which I really don't think we have a monopoly on.

Voted US Cit, not more homophobic.

Ok I put another pole up, if this ones wrong I'm quitting while I am ahead. Sorry about that. I have never been good with English it is my second language after high BS and middle nonsense. sorry :(

Can the moderators lock this one ASAP? Oops :(

The US is probably more homophobic on average than the UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and the Scandinavian nations. I wouldn't think so about Italy, Poland, Spain and others and have no idea how homophobic Japan is.

This is basically a question of social liberalism. As a big country the US has from very socially liberal places like California or Vermont to deeply socially conservative places like Texas or Mississipi.
