Is there life after gray screen of death?

What's the magic number of times required to make this magical incanation work?

So far the really fun part is new opportunity to see a new computer event:
"The gray screen of death"

No sammy, this is not the old infamous Windows Blue screen of death.
This is a new Gray screen of death--
--no color,
--no gui,
--no response to keyboard, AND
--no monitor control.
Worst, rebooting did NOT restore monitor controls. The monitor had to be power cycled to restore functionality.Wierd.

What is supposed to happen after you complete a conquest?
Here was sequence,
1. played conquest #1, mesopatania
2. saw scores
3. saw summary screen with VP's and power graphs
4. clicked ok and BAM, GRAY SCREEN OF DEATH.

I expected:
1. something like guy hitting post and word power rating
2. return to game and offer to continue/return to main menu
3. ability see results in hall of fame
4. opportunity to play conquest #2.

Hall of Fame shows I never played conquest #1. Don't know if Hall of Fame is broken or just my install. I do know HoF was broken for PTW.

Anyway, if anyone can tell me what is supposed to be happening maybe I can find a way to get around this GRAY SCREEN OF DEATH. It is not pretty.

replace your computer. j/k
it could be your monitor or your video card not syncing properly with it.
check your driver version and directx version are the latest.
if that doesn't work, reinstall and if that doesn't work reformat

That is a bit too severe. The pc is less than a yr old. It is an XP thing. M$ does not understand the needs of the families with multiusers. Check the tech forum there are about 3 pages of games that do not play well with XP. Had to upgrade directx inorder to load C3C.
Ok, typed too fast, I should check for newer video driver. Thanks for the reminder.

Just finished another scenerio, and this time no Gray Screen of Death. I changed ownership on one file and the name of another.

Now if I can just get HoF to work.
