In the attached game save, I am the Romans and have reached a point in the game that at any time that I try to declare war on Yara Zaqob of the Ethiopians, the game just stops responding. I tried to declare war several turns in a row, tried declaring war while talking to him, by just walking a Cavalry unit into his land, etc. Every time I try it my game just freezes. Has anyone else had this error?

Please see what you get with this save file.

Edit: As for my machine, its a two-month old Thinkpad with 32 bit Windows Vista Home Premium 2G RAM machine with 256 on the video card. If that ain't enough to play CIV IV BTS, um, why?

lankypeter,

I have noticed a similar problem when trying to declare war in the mid and late game. For me, the game crashes when I end the first turn of warfare. I get a message that says "encountered a problem and needs to close" and then I just see the desktop.

i just tried out your save and it crashed when i tried to move the cavalry into Zara's land i dont know why, though maybe it has to do with the size of your map (huge)

OK - what the issue is, is that you are in Mongolian territory, and he is the vassal of ethiopia. When you declare war, it doesn't lock-up, but it does take about 4 minutes (on a reasonably high-spec. machine) to continue. And when it does continue, you've been teleported out of Genghis Khan's territory. I suspect that this is some sort of buggy / inefficient code that is (maybe) looking for a square to teleport you to. Actually, I don't think you should be teleported at all, but I do think its strange that you have ROP with a vassal but not with the master.

Ive had this problem in the late game @ 1800's. It happened twice, with very similar results. It looks like the game crashes but in fact the game just takes forever to process the move. Both times it happened to me I had attacked a vassal state about 20 minutes later the move was processed and play resumed. I'm not happy at all with the processing time. My processor is fast, I have plenty of ram and my video card is good. This shouldn't be happening.

As far as I've noticed, it doesn't have anything to do with vassals. I just went to world builder and gotten rid of all my vassals, then again tried to declare war (it doesnt matter, on who), and it again took like 20 minutes.

Ridiculous!

P.S. Making peace, for that matter, takes just as long as declaring war. And yes, when someone declares war on YOU, game also freezes...
