Well I was looking at the 2008 frontrunners Myspaces some, and here's what I've come up with...

First Republicans...
John Mcain
9156 Friends
445 Comments
Mitt Romney
3302 Friends
314 Comments
Rudy Giuliani
822 Friends
105 Comments

Now Democrats...
Hillary Clinton
18963 Friends
2176 Comments
Barack Obama
121128 Friends
15928 Comments
John Edwards
20196 Friends
2677 Comments

Is this signifigant at all? It would appear Obama has a massive lead... Perhaps Myspace is just biased? Please disscuss.

Dems spend waaay too much time on the internets! But then, Al Gore did invent it...

not true...

My understanding is Rudy has 911 friends.

and 2001 comments

Hmmm... After a little more looking I found a Rudy with 1603 and 170...:crazyeye:

Now I'm totally confused...

Probably not; Governor Dean was the overwhelming internet favorite before the 2004 elections, it didn't do anything for him. Well, maybe his popularity was a factor at becoming Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, but that wasn't what he was shooting for.

this means nothing to me. and i find myspace idiotic.

98% of Myspace = emo bastards.

Why would it be significant? MySpace is mostly made up of teenagers who can't vote, and college students who don't because they're too busy getting drunk. Furthermore, there are many foreigners on MySpace as well - how can we tell what percentage of each of these "friends" are really Americans at all? MySpace is not a reliable instrument for measuring American public opinion.

I think it's probable that Obama does have a significant lead over the other Democratic contenders with young people, who are more on the internet than older people. But I wouldn't use MySpace to measure by how much he is ahead, or to compare how popular the Republican and Democratic candidates are to each other.

I think it clearly shows that republicans don't have acces to internet in general. Either cuz they live in the midwest (where internet doesn't exist) or because they see it as an devil tempting invention.

It is very significant. It means Tom should run for president.

Or, maybe Republicans don't waste their time on Myspace. ;)

You are not talking about Perfection, Turner or Amadeus, are you? ;)

I got the impression it was more in reference to VRWCAgent. On the other hand, I don't think any of them consider themselves Republicans, although some may vote more Republican than any other party...

Quite frankly, I'm surprised to see Republican candidates on Myspace (if they're even the real candidates!), I haven't really been aware of Republicans targeting the young (non-)voting crowd.

Given that McCain, who has the clear lead among Republicans on Myspace, has less than half as many friends as Clinton, who is trailing among the Democrats, I think we can safely say that they aren't targetting the young and just happen to have attracted a few followers.

Since it's possible that some or all of these accounts are phoney and not run by the actual campaigns, it's a bit meaningless. Facebook has slightly more formalized political campaigning and is a better measure of the youth vote than Myspace.

Perfection? A Republican?

Hey! Maybe they'll debate on Myspace...one comment at a time!
