Is there any reason to vote for John McCain?

To fight socialism. I will explain:

A top marginal income-tax rate of 35 per cent is glorious capitalism! \o/
And a top marginal income-tax rate of 39.6 per cent is clearly filthy socialism. /o\

McCain '08! \o/

Sorry, it's Monday and I'm apparently a little fuzzy still - what?

Most americans dont even realise there a war in Iraq, does that make you resent having to put your life on their line for them? Or have I completely misinterpreted your post ?

I think you did - Obama's (and thus CG's) "I'll get us out of this unpopular war" seems to overlook the fact that the war has mostly faded out of the US electorate's consciousness. I'd presume that that is because of two reasons, one is of course the economic news pushing everything else off the front pages, but the second is because there are no high casualty figures keeping the war on the front page in the first place. It would seem that the US is winning the war in Iraq now, but no one seems to care anymore.

then I do understand - what Im asking is, as a soldier, do you feel resentful that your colleagues are out in Iraq fighting and risking their lives for the protection of people back home who cant even be bothered to make themselves aware of whats happening? I know this dosent apply to eveyrone in the US by a long shot, and its not a loaded question, I'm just genuinely curious as to wether you resent it

You vote John McCain if you have any idea how this country works, you vote Obama if you want to make it worse.

We need those troops in Afghanistan so we can invade Pakistan. Finally get to the root cause of terrorism.

Me personally? My views on it are sort of mixed. On the one hand, I don't think that the war in Iraq was or is necessary to protect people back home in the first place. That said, the awareness tends to rise with the number of casualties, so it's not really a negative that they don't have Iraq (or Afghanistan) in the fronts of their minds, it's that they think we're still losing there because the news stopped reporting anything about it at all. In general I think the US civilian population is pretty supportive of military people in general (though not necessarily of missions, strategy, or funding) and I personally have no complaints about it.

Good question by the way. :)

Reverse that and you'll get it right. McCain plans on making things worse. Because the Republican base wants thing worse. Obama might not make things better, but at least he'll try to make things better. And he, and the people who vote for him, are the people who understand how America works better.

Ethanol, assuming he's not lying and can get Congress to go along with it.

Seriously. Not a reason to vote against Obama, but a reason to like McCain on his own merits for something he has done or wants to do.
Certainly: to prevent the Democrat-controlled Congress from getting anything done.

America usually does best when the President is one party and Congress is controlled by the other party.

You didn't answer the question. You could say the same about any republican nominee. What is it specifically about McCain?

I wish more people could accept this particular view. It doesn't exclude the view that the troops are worthy of respect, much as many people think it does.

Obama publicly stated that if we have actionable intelligence as to the whereabouts of bin Ladin in Pakistan that we would go after them even without the permission of the Pakistani government. This invasion would be seen as an act of war.

Technically, the view is the same as the one held by the Bush administration, but they aren't so public about it. It hasn't really mattered, as we don't have the intelligence and the Pakistani government insists that they would take Al Quaeda out themselves of have joint operations if our intelligence were convincing. However, Obama's statements have been received very badly by the people, leading many to resent us more and Al Quaeda less. McCain has been very critical of any statements that other nations could see them as threatening war since don't help our public image or generate good will towards the US.

Agreed.

The last time a president increased taxes on anyone during a recession, that recession turned into a great depression.
Obama's 95% tax break, will turn into a 95% income break.
