You're right! That must be it. Sorry, Huayna, I won't make that mistake again. :)

Well, this proves that something clearly needs to be done in order to prevent this predictable situation from arising. Options might include:

1) Moving Bhuddism to another, slightly later tech-like Writing or Priesthood.

2) Have an extra tech between Mysticism and Meditation.

3) Disconnect religion from tech altogether (a la True Prophets mod).

Definitely 1 and 2 would be easiest to achieve, but 3 would probably be my preference. Firaxis, by the sounds of it, definitely need to do SOMETHING though!

i have a couple of things to say 1) In history she (Isabella) had developed the inquestion to kill off the jewish so the game is a paradox she almost always founds judaism? 2) Buddism should require hinduism (it is a off shot).3) Judaism is not related to hinduism in a way shape or form so it SHOULD NOT need hinduism. 4) Hinduism is not polytheistic. All of the hindu gods are not seperate they are all the differents facets of Bramen (i think that how its spelled) think the facets of a diamond they are still part of the diamond are they not. Meaning Hinduism is monotheistic.( My family was hindu until about 300years when the portugese came.)
Hinduism was founded about 4000 B.C.E but Buddism came about 200 and something years ago Judaism was founded maybe before Hinduism.

i hope that help clear conflict up a little.

1 thing i forgot was if u dont start with ancient era u all will get juddaism (classical start etc etc etc)

Actually, if you start in a later era, all religions that were skipped over get randomly founded a few turns into the game.

I don't like that Religions are the result of technologies. It would seem to make alot more sense if founding a religion was caused by culture and great people. It makes religion in the game kind of unbelievable.

If religions were founded by Great Prophets, then the first guy to get Stonehenge would probably found two, maybe three, religions.

There are a few very simple solutions to that problem:

1) Have a Pagan Temple' or 'Sacred Grove' improvement that can be built after discovering mysticism. This can either (a) allow a priest specialist or (b) grant an automatic +1 to +2 GPP's per turn (obsoleted with Monotheism perhaps? Or disappears whilst in the Theocracy or Organised Religion Civic).

2) Have a tech based limitation to which religion a Great Prophet can found. So Monotheism is required to found Judaism still-it simply requires you to have a Great Prophet as well.

This might also allow you to have more religions in the game-overall-without diluting its impact. You would simply need a situation where if a religion of a certain 'flavour' is founded, no other religion of that flavour can be founded. For instance, if you Found Judaism, you lock out Zoroastrianism. If you found Hellenic Polytheism, you lock out Hinduism.

I wouldn't mind seeing a random relgion set to the techs for example meditation could grant any 1 of the 7 relgions same for poly ect.I would also like to see the number of relgions cut back to 5 the later ones never get spread any way.

Yeah... Problem with Isabella is that she has an incredible early-religion getting combo. She has mysticism and fishing, meaning that she can work any water square for 2 gold off the bat, and she's programmed to always go for an early religion first. Simply put, unless you have fishing right at the start, you cannot match this early game tech income - meaning, she gets it before you.

2. Barring that, I generally play Saladin, Huayna Capac, Gandhi, Asoka, or any other leader who starts with Mysticism. I can usually beat her to both Meditation AND Polytheism if I research nothing else. I generally go for Monotheism almost immediately afterwards, too, just to be safe.

What difficulty are you playing on? I've spent months playing Emperor with Gandhi and my success rate going STRAIGHT for buddhism is almost nil when she's in the game.

You can often get Hinduism if you start with Mysticism. The AI tends to research Meditation before Polytheism. Unfortunately, they've good reason: Meditation is cheaper and has better benefits.

I do a lot of the time.... I just wish there was some variation. I want another civ to found buddism just for once.

Have you tried founding it yourself???
play romans and go for that tech ASAP.

Or just play as her ( lightbulb moment)

This leaves aside all the historically inaccurate ideas of Spain founding Buddhism when it was actually founded thousands of miles away. I find this most ironic but that is another story

The religions should be replaced by some wonder alike buildings, that in the end when fully build result in the foundation of a religion. That way less civilizations will be able to monopolies them. And it makes the game more interesting, since more civilizations will be able to have their own religion.

I play on harder levels where it's almost always impossible to found buddism, because you'll always get beaten to the tech by the AI due to their enhanced research rates. Unless I start near an oasis or something, I just won't have the research to get buddism.

It seems to have gotten better with warlords. Now the founder is 50/50 between isabella and brennus. Theres enough leaders now so a lot of my games don't have either in.

The only religion i ever found is Confucianism, and thats around the late BCs for me, and im usually all alone on a small island so i have nobody to talk to or murder, and thus focus entirely on culture and science

I had another idea to eliminate this problem play on a custom game and pick your opponents
