Not sure I have patience to finish it with true dom or even for conquest. :)

snaaty - I posted my save on an earlier post:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=5136720&postcount=77

I've started preparing for my next war, but I forgot to take a save right before it started. Basically I continued my research for a bit (getting democracy and assembly line). I shifted back into nationalism + mercantilism (I'm in a strange world filled with mercantilists) and drafted up an army of infantry. I then bribed Toku to attack Brennus (and Ragnar his vassal) and I joined in from the soutfh of Brennus' territory after ~5 turns of the Brennus-Toku war. I then headed north and grabbed all of the cities - bribing off Toku halfway through to make sure he doesn't take any cities. Next, I'm going to bribe Toku after Roosevelt and follow after him in another ~5 turns too (I have industrialism now). I'm tempted at this point to just go fission and nuke Cyrus. It's been a while since I've played with those puppies :D. I will post a save when my war is complete. Here's a save about 2 turns from the end of my war with Brennus. I've also been sabotaging Cyrus' wells to make sure he doesn't get any oil. Toku has oil but he's my buddy so I don't care :D

The hardest job before me. Cyrus, his vassal Washington and 40 gunships. But I will manage with that. I have got all neccesary techs and I will hopefully post my game today. But now I am heading to the cinema :)

P.S. I hope that I remembered most important facts of this war.

I bow to you Multineer for fighting it through

I also tried to finish this game via domination, but…

After I was comfortable in tech lead (was fighting with modern armors and mech. infs against tanks, artillery and gunship’s) I landed on the big conti and struck directly for Cyrus:

I had a big army, containing of 60+ modern armors, 30+ mech infs and 10+ artillery… …in the 3 turns after I landed, Cyrus threw at me: 55 gunsip´s, 35 artillery, 21 SAM infantry (and some tanks and infantry). I killed them all, but now I’m fed up…

This 3 turns lasted about 2 hours…

Cyrus is mad, plain mad. He must have built about 400 units...

WW brought me down completely (ME, not my civ… …now I remember again why I prefer space race…)

The power graph when I decided to quit:

My army left after Cyrus suicide his offence army:

heh,One reason why Vassals are good.
I was able tp take back door domination for very long time. In addition, they do half of figting for me :)

Yeah, I think you are right. Btw, this was the first warlords game I planned to finnish domination:crazyeye: (because I´m normally to lazy to do the endgame war). I was really surprised of the overall number of troops Cyrus had (Warlords differs quite a lot in this respect to vanilla)... ...and not prepared for it.

I could have vassaled both (Washington and Ragnar) earlier in the game after they were reduced by Cyrus... ...I voted against it... ...would have also been better to attack Toku and/or Brennus first to have a better position in this war... ...I simply underestimated Cyrus... ...next time I know better:D (at least I hope)

Ah, one thing more:

I considered shortly nuking Cyrus (because of my good tech lead) then voted against it, because it felt not right... ...next time it WILL fell right...

...

Everybody who has a chance, please nuke Cyrus, (he deseves it) to avenge me:goodjob:

why would anyone avenge you?
you killed all cyrus' army. It was just a matter of time to conquer him.

Yes the endgame war is gruelling in my game too. Position is probably winning but Ragnar and his vassals have lots of units that just keep on coming at me.

For next game i propose Immortal difficulty with a spiritual civ. I'm going for space there i think. Easier but Immortal is a tough level to play. I won it on huge map with 18 civs once but 7 civs on standard map is far more difficult.

The game has crashed on me twice. It hasn't done this to me in a really long time (the early vanilla days). I'm going to try reinstalling. And, can someone tell me how to set the autosaves to happen every turn? Replaying 3 or 4 turns is kind of tedious, even if it's just managing growth/production and naval manuevering.

peace,

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
. Save before you exit a game, and change the autosave frequency in the
.config file from the default of every 4 turns, to every turn. (Under \My
Documents\My Games\Warlords\CivilizationIV.ini, find the following line:

; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 4

Change this to:
; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 1

@ Giaur:

Cool drop of power you dealed to Cyrus... ...what army/troops where you using and whit what did he counter?

In fact, I declared war on him and his vassal Washington. But I was waiting for his move. Scouting pointed his army consists mainly on gunships (for attack) and artillery (for defense). My army was balanced. Armours, Gunships, Marines, Mech-Infantry - 1 : 1 : 1 : 1. He sent his first large stack towords my borders. Used aircraft to soften this stack, next Armours with Colleteral ability. No matter that those were gunships. My armours could attack twice (blitz) easily cause those were level 3 at least. Used one promotion to increase odds, and second promotion to heal unit and to perform the second attack. Sometimes combat odds were about 70-80 percent, but I could attack twice with my modern tanks. Enemy stack was so weak that I could attack it with any unit without looses. There was no great philosophy with dealing with Cyrus. I was just waiting about 5 turns for his moves. Then started loading my marines onto the ships. And tried aim some of his coastal cities. Also tried reach his cities by land war. His artillery was stopped by my Drill4 modern armour - the best unit to counter large stacks of artillery units. I drowned plenty of his ships. Computer uses weak Destroyers, I supppose the reason of that is the game to be playable.

Summary:
---------------------------
1) destroyed all of his units destined to attack
2) conquered 4 cities, so he lost 30 percent units destined to deffense
3) he lost 3/4 artillery units
4) he lost about 3/4 of his Navy
5) every turn he was loosing some aircraft

So, I guess, such high drop is reasonable.

But I lost plenty of units too. My units were usually destroyed on AI turn.

However the best tactics I know is to simply wait and hide behind the walls. Computer loves performing suicidal missions. It's so sad :(.

@ Giaur:

Well, so I did more or less the same (I only didn´t bring gunships). I took one city, razed all roads leading towards it and holed in... ...Cyrus suisided about 100 - 120 units in the first 3 rounds of the combat... ...I lost about 15 units only (about 60 offencive units left)...

But in the end I decided to quit nevertheless, because I attacked Cyrus first and hadn´t anticipated how much destroyers he would bring (40+ in my game), so Cyrus sank my whole navy (8 battleships and 25 transports) and I simply was cut off reinforcements and would have to build a new navy or airports (after waiting another 11 turns for the riots to end in first captured city)... ...I was quite frustraded after this development (had invested already 2 hours in this 3 turns of invasion)...
