Israel and evangelical Americans. Match made in Heaven?

That's basically the definition of Evangelical that I've been using. Here's a Wiki article on Evangelicalism.

Commentators and historians describe four characteristics of evangelicals:

1. Emphasis on the conversion experience, also called being saved, or new birth or born again after John 3:3. Thus evangelicals often refer to themselves as born-again Christians. This experience is said to received by "faith alone" and to be given by God as the result of "grace alone."

2. The Protestant canon of the Bible as the primary, or only, source of religious authority, as God's revelation to humanity. Bible prophecy, especially as interpreted according to dispensationalism, is often emphasized. Thus, the doctrine of "sola scriptura" is often affirmed and emphasized.

3. Encouragement of evangelism (the act of sharing one's beliefs) -- in organized missionary work or by personal encounters and relationships with others.

4. A central focus on Christ's redeeming work on the cross as the only means for salvation and the forgiveness of sins.

I always thought it was odd that Fundamentalists are considered dangerous.

Really, what is a fundamentalist? They are merely following the fundamental principles of their chosen religion. Maybe, just maybe...it isn't the people that are the entirety of the problem here.

As far as the Crusades, I don't think the war is what most people talk about when referring to Christian atrocities. Although a war waged in the name of Christianity isn't quite Christian-like...I don't think. But people are more referring to the wholesale slaughter of innocent people living in the cities along the way to Jerusalem. As Sidhe mentioned, they slaughtered entire city populations. And it wasn't just Jerusalem. Sometimes, they merely didn't have the manpower to hold the cities, so they slaughtered eveyone instead. You know, death to the infidels, and all that jazz.

Alternative music was the norm too. ;)

I think, when someone says they are an evangelical, they mean bible believing, which means they take the bible literally, and think they are the only ones who are going to heaven.

I don't know. I have known some self-proclaimed Evangelicals who think that non-Christians can be saved (although it would be harder for them). I believe that Billy Graham, for example, falls into this category.
