It just hit me....

I'm not sure what this thread is about. Are you saying civ must have been dumbed down for these "idiot console players" to appeal to that crowd? Because if that were the case I'd think they'd have just made a game for the xbox in the first place.

If that's not the point, my only guess is something like "damn console kids, get off my lawn! We're smarter, prettier, and all around better people than those idiot console kids, so Firaxis, don't you dare make another Civ Rev game for those morons" (which, if that's not the OP's point, is seemingly the attitude of enough people 'round these parts).

The idea of main-franchise Civ hitting consoles doesn't seem *terrible* to me, but I wouldn't want it unless they did what some MMO's for consoles have done - all but require keyboard and mouse support. I personally don't think Civ V was actually watered down as much as many of you claim and rather see it as a spectrum shift to more place more emphasis on complex combat which is made to look worse by problematic AI, but consoles aren't without some fairly compelling games not made for a more twitch-happy audience. Civ could be one of them.

It all depends on the design philosophy they go into it with. As it stands, it seems more likely to me that they just keep Civ Rev and Civ proper as two separate franchises, and don't blend them.

Actually, the inputs for a game like Civ are already pretty simple. A straight console port of Civ IV or Civ V would probably actually work just fine, provided they had some talented user experience people working on it.

The big danger is we get more Civ Revs and fewer full-featured Civ games. But I'd be ok conquering the world on my 50" TV as long as it wasn't a dumbed-down play experience.

What I got from this thread is that there are a bunch of ******** people on facebook who love civ5 and post about it.

Nah, I got it differently - that there's a bunch of reatarded people on facebook who love CivRev and wants more of that crap on their crappy consoles instead of quality games like Civ4

Aww we're so harsh and elitists, aren't we?

I don't mind if there'll be CivRev VIII even, but what I DO mind is that there might be no more of the great challenging strategies like Civ4, only dumbed down mass-produced titles made for a quick buck with the least effort. Let them play their consoles, but will somebody think about us old farts, who find chess attractive?

"********"? Feeling a little threatened?

Here we are criticising people we don't know for one-line comments they make on a particular facebook page, while ourselves engaging in fairly pointless discussions about a video game that wastes away the time which we could otherwise use to do something productive or more enjoyable.

Honestly, guys, keep some perspective.

 You're right! I"m going to turn this dang computer off right now and go do something real.

PC elitism aside, these FB people do seem kinda stupid. I for one don't think Civ would survive well an actual console porting, not even Civ V for all it's streamlining. And a Civ game made for console has been done already, and let's face it, most civ players didn't fancy it.

But PieceOfMind, come on! Seriously? Reality-mongering in CFC? Blasphemy!

"********"? Feeling a little threatened?

Nope. Are you feeling insulted because I called them ********? Were you the guy who posted "xbox xbox xbox xbox" perhaps?

I honestly don't know why you care. I also know you weren't that guy, but I had to point out the absurdity of your question to me somehow.

You know, the more I think about it, you're right. I realize that I play 90% with the mouse and only use a few keys for shortcuts on often repeated actions.

The only way it would really suffer, from a control perspective, would be in speed of selection and issuing orders. Putting in hundreds of inputs for unit movements, citizen placements, diplomacy actions, etc would likely take a fair bit longer with a controller and would get tedious. But hey, it's not a prohibitive issue...

I still don't see it happening, but I guess the problem wouldn't necessarily be controller issues.

From now on I will dedicate my life to doing something useful!
First I will find something to eat and then I'm going to walk my dog. After that I will check my email and see what's on TV. Finally, I'm going to see what's going on at CivFanatics! See! I'll show you that I have plenty of perspective!

Some of those posts are hilariously bad. These people don't even respect their own language."Facebook user" should be a derogatory term.

Look out, you might be accused of feeling threatened.

Derrick, I think his point is, we really don't know anything about these people. Some of the posters in here read a tremendous into a guy posting "xbox xbox xbox xbox," call him "********" for it, assume that he's part of that (as people say here) idiotic Civ Rev crowd...

What do we really know about these people? Pretty much nothing. For all we know there are posters there who work on a cure for cancer in their day job and like to play XBOX games in the evening. Piece is kind of just drawing attention to the fact that we should hope others don't judge a bunch of guys and gals who sit around at Civ fanatics arguing about a video game as some of us have chosen to judge these people. The way this thread makes it look people here seem to look at you for an idiot if you like the XBOX and would have the audacity to want Civ on it.

Besides, how many of us know very smart, capable individuals who look like morons on facebook? That site does not present people as they actually are. Heck, I worry about what people would have thought of me from looking at that site a few months ago before I figured out I was being tagged in all sorts of photos I really didn't want up there... And heck, one of my close friends who's a mortgage broker and multiple property owner about to bank his second million routinely looks like a total idiot on his social facebook account.

You're right. I don't know anything about those posters except that they posted moronic messages on that wall. Since I will never learn anything more about them and have no desire to, they will forever be lumped into a group of "people who posted moronic things on civ5s facebook wall" which is a subcategory of "people who post moronic things on the internet" which is a subcategory of "people who communicate moronically".

Sure, it's unfair to call every one of those people ********, but it's also unrealistic for you to actually believe I have the desire to investigate these people to attack my categorization. I have no interaction with them and never will so I have no reason to. It's how the human mind works. It puts similar things together based on the information it receives.

Personally, I don't use my unwillingness to bring myself out of a position of ignorance as an excuse to make far-reaching judgments about things I know very little about. And if I did, I wouldn't spend so much time trying to rationalize it rather than just admitting I'm talking about people I don't know squat about. But hey, that's me ;)

Anyways, St.Paddy's day - time for all of you people looking down your nose at those facebook posters to prove you're a step above those "idiots" and go out and spend some time with all your friends - because I'm sure we've all assumed "retards" like that have little in their lives other than their XBOX's. On that note, I'm out of here.

What part of "you're right" do you not understand?

You're incredibly insulting today. You also have incredibly bad reading comprehension today.

edit: Here, I'll make it easier for you by quoting and bolding:
You're right. I don't know anything about those posters except that they posted moronic messages on that wall.

If you'd prefer me to be blunt, I'd say that calling someone ******** for reasons as you have done says more about yourself than it does about the subject of the attack.

The reason I asked if you felt threatened was that it appeared you were bothered by the fact that someone making such simple comments could have as much influence on decisions about the civ franchise as you do. Especially because he/she was posting on facebook's civ page where it is more likely that his/her comments will be seen by Firaxians (including Sid) than posts of you or I on civfranatics. If you were feeling threatened, it could make you more likely to attack the integrity of the person posting that dull message.

I only want to inject a bit of reality to this thread and tone down the hatred a bit. I'm still a bit confused as to why civfanatics seems to be the easiest of places to find people deriding facebook users. A large proportion of civfanatics users would be facebook users themselves. To many facebook users, including very educated and sophisticated people, posting deeply intellectual comments is probably not what they perceive to be the purpose of facebook.

I don't care about this at all. I expect nothing I write anywhere on the internet to have any impact on what 2K and Firaxis do with the civ franchise.

If my words say a lot about me then your assumption says a lot about you as well.

It at least shows that you have no idea what I'm thinking.
