I want to know this..... and I need advice from veterans Civ player in this type of game....

Can you hold up all?

- Job
- Wife/girlfriend
- Son/Daughter
- Play Civ IV
- Eat
- Sleep

Thank you for your help...

Well, it comes down to how much of each requires your attention.

7 hours of sleep
1 hour to get ready in the morning and get unready in the evening
8 hours at work
1 hour for lunch
1 hour for gettig to work and getting home
1 hour for dinner
------------------
19 hours

5 hours left for Civ, kids and spouse.

Do your kids need to be supervised, or are they high school age that they are barely around as it is?

Does your spouse/girlfriend want your attention/company in the evenings? Or does she just curl up on the couch and veg in front of the TV? More generally, does she do her own thing?

Assuming your wife does her own thing and the kids don't need your attention, then you could easily get 4-5 hours of Civ on a weeknight. Personally, I enjoy spending time doing stuff with my fiance; therefore, I might get 4-5 hours of Civ per week.

She likes to watch TV ... but with me beside her...

I need wait for my wife asleep for play... I sleep 3 or 4 hours... but if I lost the game...

Are you married?

Now if I look back my life, I found myself most time-rich in college, which I played Civ 3 like crazy. (skipping classes and staying at dorm playing for the whole day and night, only study before exam). And at that time, my gf is in another city, so each night we talked on the phone for hours, while I am still playing civ III.

but now, married, graduate student in chemistry (which means working in the lab for prolonged time), it is hard to get enough time to play. Sigh!

good that no kid yet.

I normally sit on the couch and play while my wife watches tv. No kids yet.

Thank God I have the laptop! She'd probably divorce me if I was in a seperate room all the time.

I do it all but sleep. Well maybe a few hours a day but not enough! I do not play civ while my kids are awake either though with CIV4 I have taught my 9 year old and we will play when Mommy goes out. ;)

have wife, 2 kids (3 and 4 mos), Work, Sleep, Eat ~ it can be done, but w/not enough time for civ....obviously, my civ time eats out of my sleeping time...

also, it's time to tell her that she doesn't need you there to watch tv with her...if she complains, that make her watch her play civ for an hour and see how she likes it...

the baby=bottle or boob?? b/c obviously, if its boob, there's nothing you can do to feed the little tyke...

Sheesh, my wife liked to use the phrase "we need to supplement with a bottle". Of course this would often occur at 4 in the morning. In fact the only time I recall her getting up is when she had no choice as her boob was about to "explode".

Wife, 2 kids, work and all the others are manageable. My biggest problem is that my son wants to play too and demands the computer - haven't found a solution to this problem ("no" isn't an answer that is appreciated by kids generally).

Need to add getting exercise to the poll. I need to ride my bicycle every day. One hour on weekdays and longer on weekends.

I have job, wife, and 3 kids. I find it easier to finish a Civ4 game in a weekend and take care of everything else then Civ3.

Just tell them their "CIV time" is from the time they get home from school until Daddy gets home from work. Works for me.:D

Atreas, You have the solution: Buy a new computer and play MP with your son. If your wife disagreed, You would tell her: "Our son need our atention, I'm a good father and I do it for him"....

I can see that I'm in the same situation than the most of people, My civ time "eat" my sleep time in weekdays.

In the weekends, I don't go to work but my wife want to go to the supermarket, visit my mother in-law ( ), shopping, bla-bla-bla.... some times I simulate a stomachache for avoit it and stay in home play Civ in peace......

as some others, i can manage my wife, my 3 daughters, my job, the long road to get there, the dinner, and still have (a little) time to play CIV.
In fact I even get time to ride my home bicycle, since i use that as an excuse for playing ;)

But sleep is lacking, my youngest daughter still wants a bottle in the middle of the night!
Do you guys think i can learn my 7 year old daughter to play?
Need to buy a second copy soon, if i can

Aha!

I constantly praise myself for the purchase of my laptop.
Allows me to be in the same room as my girlfriend when she watches her garbage on the telly.
As long as I don't put both my headphones in and give her more than one word answers I get away with it.

up at 6, at work 7.30, leave 5.30pm, home for 6.30pm, dinner and play with the baby until 8pm. Baby goes for bath, laptop goes on. This generally gives me 6 hours play a night.

It is medically proven that you can attune your body to only needing 4 hours sleep a night. I got 2 last night!

The laptop offers amazing flexibility when juggling the demands of real life with game playing. A girlfriend that realises how lucky she is that you are a hardcore gamer rather than a hardcore alcoholic also helps.

Married 2 children (6, 4):

Time is full until 23:00 (wake-up, go to job, job, back to home, play with kids, eat, put kids to sleep, spend some time with wife)

So Playing CIV4 == 4 hours of sleep at most!
Not Playing CIV4 == 7-8 hours of sleep!

I'm barely managing Emperor level (despite my joke in the other thread, I am somehow managing a girlfriend, although I sometimes get a lot of  faces while in a particularly intensive part of a game (and I'm unfortunately unable to offer many luxury resources to compensate)). I'm impressed and amazed at the multitasking some of you are able to pull off - here I thought I was sacrificing a lot of sleep ...

maybe that's why i can only manage prince ;)
I often can play 1 hour on week days, and a few more on weekends.
So either i don't micromanage at all, either i play very few turns per day.
I feel it's impossible to follow a clear plan with this much stop and go...
