I finished the program!!! Simultaneous MP turns! Now without editing!!!

You can download it here.

I fixed a few problems and changed the background color. I recommend updating!

Corn! I edited already! IT works!!!! Do u have it edited?
Here's how you edit it if you don't use the program.
Go to CIV.INI file and at the last line put "Simultaneous=1" no quotes
It works! ITS GREAT!
USE IT!
CORN LETS PLAY NOW!

All my program does is edit the file for you and make it read only. So that Civ 2 can't change it back. I'm bored and like programming. So what do you get??? A nice program that does a ver simple operation that took me 3 hours to get right. YEAH!!! Everybody celebrate.

Anyway I'll play tonight SunTzu. Maybe we should change the ladder to a Simultaneous MP only!!! Then it's a whole new frontier and no one will have an advantage!!!

Of course would anyone want to test it? I must have tested it 100 times to get it just right. But better safe then sorry.

Thanks!!!! The only bad thing about my program is that you may need the VB runtime files. I will add the link to these later. (They are big like 1.3 MB) But most Win98SE machines should have these files already. And actually a lot of driver install programs put these on too. So maybe it won't be a big problem.

Yep. That's it. It you want to get these files you can go to www.hotfiles.com and search for "Convert and Calculate" (no quotes) that's a program I wrote which has those files already there.

I also made another file with them but I have to try and find it first. And with my computer out of order.....there's not much I can do.

For those of you that may be confused where the civ.ini file is, I found it in the Root directory on my computer. i.e. c:\windows

Yeah, setting up a simultaneous game was pretty simple - thanks PaleHorse76 for the info on where the civ.ini file was found!

Here is the easiest way to do it manually:

Click <u>Start</u>, Then Click <u>Run</u>
Type: "notepad c:\windows\civ.ini" (no quotes) Then press enter.
Then just add "Simultaneous=1" at the end.
and voila!!! But you will have to do it everytime you want to host unless you make the file read only. That's in the next lesson.

CornMaster, forget what I said ealrier(on icq)... we don't need a readme file for your program -- The interface is very straightforward. <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/smile.gif" border=0>

If it's not too much trouble, it would be nice to add a Browse button for the Civ2.exe location...

I was going to add the Browse button but it makes the file about 100k bigger because of the "Browse Button" Runtime file that I would need. But the original file size would still only be 32 kb, it would just complicate things. BUT!!! I will add it and then you can have the option of browsing to it and if it crashes you can load it back up and type it in yourself!!! I'll have that ready tonight. And I'll upload it as the same name.

EDIT: I'll also add a few extra features as well as refine the GUI so it's idiot proof. Or as we say in the bussiness.....

New Version is ready!!!!!! It's got a yellow background instead of blue. So we can tell the 2 versions apart. I strongly recommend getting the new version. A few bug fixes and nicer all around.

i already played a Simultaneous game once. it was really slow and i was playing me against someone else. i don't know if it is the slow 24k modem connection or the 16mb ram, 66mhz computer...

Either that or I've discovered another way I'm ignorant.
