[NFP] It's time to let the player issue "Get Away From My Borders" demand

You are smart. The AI is not. So I think that's OK actually.

It's much more annoying to basically have no chance to avoid the promise break penalty if you don't move all of your troops somewhere and hope for the best. I hate that.

I recently had a scenario where an AI issued such a demand and then declared war on me 1-3 turns later, yet I get dinged for breaking the promise..

I knew someone would say that this is necessary because humans are smarter than the AI and I should have prebutted. It's true that humans and AI are different. I play on Emperor where the AI gets an extra settlers and production bonuses. But this behavior is extremely gamey, and highlights the AI/player discrepancies in an uncomfortable way. The production bonuses are mostly invisible but this is very visible. It also strains the bounds of in game plausibility to have an AI literally surrounding your capital with troops and be unable to do anything except prepare for the inevitable DOW.

You are right though that the AI issues the demand under inappropriate circumstances and it is not apparent enough what they want you to do.

Saves a step. The computer just going to decline the offer. It aint going to withdraw all those troops for a grief hit. The major concern would be if you could ward off dow by simply requesting border space.

Wouldnt you ignore all requests when you are dead set on war?

Doesnt seem "gamey" at all. Someone marches troops to surround your cap, its obvioisly war and prepare for the inevitable.

It's a thing that has always bothered me in this game. They can call me out but I can't call them out. Wish you could have more interactions with the AI. And not sure if this is fixed but in the early versions even just having your own units defending your borders (that happened to be next to another Civs) would get the AI asking why my units are close to his borders.

Mutual open borders should def disable this nonsense too.
It is sooo stupid to receive open borders only to have them whine about a unit trying to get in.
“I’m merely passing by” ..not really.. “I’m trying to get in, you moron”

Since the most recent patch there have been a lot of cases where the AI moves units to surround my capital. They're obviously going to declare a surprise war in a few turns. Why can't I issue the "Get Away From My Borders or else DOW" demand?

I can't surround an AI capital with warriors and then declare.

Or hope about when they loiter IN YOUR CITIES AND YOU CAN'T EVEN MOVE YOUR WORKERS OR BUILD IMPROVEMENTS. AN ALLIANCE ISNT PERMISSION TO PARK YOUR fudging VARU IN MY CITY, GANDHI GO WASTE YOUR OWN SPACE.

I've played games where the AI issues the get off my borders demand and I say okay, then 10-15 turns later, the AI declares war, so I am fighting their untis around our borders and at the end of the promise time, one of my units is on the border and I break the promise. This should 100% be fixed. If the AI declares war on me, my promise is nullified.
