I've sunk to a new low!

As I logged on to the internet tonight, I noticed something strange. I am currently connected to the internet at a blazing 12.0 Kbps. I don't think I've ever seen internet this slow. I think I should try to download something to see how slow it goes...

Now, I'm not pleased with our internet service. At the price we pay (and I'll not devulge that, just know that it's too much) I think we should do better than about 26K. But this? This is just lousy. I've tried to convince my parents to get cable, but that seems unlikely.

So, my question: does anyone know what could be wrong to cause my connection to be this slow in this case, or rather slow in general?

Have you tried reconnecting? When I had dial-up I would sometimes get a bad line which would slow everything down.

WHy the hell does AOL still exist? I mean on one side theres MUCH cheaper dial up and on the other side it's got much faster broadband. I really wish AOL would go up in smoke.
