Jamie's Rome Mod

I have found the problem so until the forum is fixed I can send my version to baldyr via e-mail!

Please notice also the notice on top of the site.

I accidently (spelled right?) deleted it one day without reading it
Ok, I can't use my e-mail either, so I'm stuck :D

I sent the file so I now have to wait for reply

1.3.1 Released! Check 1.3/2.1 thread for more details!

see 2.0 :p

when I release 1.3.2 (soon) I will get to work on 2.1 which will be the same as 1.3.2 but with parthia and selecuia (and possibly dacia) and without the picts

will be releasing 1.3.2 soon and beginning work on 2.1, just checking everything is working without bugs!

not sure, I don't think mac users can use the DLL so no?

Ah, okay :( I'm hoping I'll get a new computer soon, a gaming PC. This computer's been having problems since July, so it looks like that will be the case. This looks like a really good mod, so I can't wait to play it!

I'm somewhat of a Roman historian :p I wrote my Internal Assessment in IB History HL on whether Rome fell in 476.

I would say no :p rome remained strong in the byzantines, was that your conclusion?

I'm somewhat of a Roman historian :p I wrote my Internal Assessment in IB History HL on whether Rome fell in 476.

The city definitely fell in 410 and 455.

So, nope. It fell before then. :p

My conclusion was that because the Byzantines were officially a continuation of the Roman Empire (their actual title was the Roman Empire), they legitimately succeeded the West. Because of how the Ottomans handled taking Constantinople, such as maintaining the Byzantine bureaucracy and essentially only changing the state religion and who's in charge, technically speaking, it fell in 1922, as one title of the Ottoman Sultan was "Sultan of Rum" or "Emperor of Rome". Even then, because the Republic of Turkey is the actual successor to the Ottomans, the case can be made that Rome still exists. However, the best date for its demise would be 1453, when the Eastern Empire finally fell and was conquered by the Ottomans, despite the way they managed its conquest.

"GFC error: failed to initialize the primary control theme"

Fixed by renaming mod folder - adding apostrophe (changed from JamiesRome1.3 to Jamie'sRome1.3).

yeah, I knew about that. When I packaged it up it was with the apostrophe but sometimes when extracted it renames. :undecide:

ok the next version is well on it's way with a bunch of new features:

Storms - Each turn storms may appear and do damage to units that end end turn on it, can damage improvements! they stay for a random amount of turns (6 is the maximum I think)

Watchtowers - Workers can now build watchtowers, when a unit is standing on it, it's visibility is increased allowing it to see surrounding terrain

reworked promotions and military:
  • Many promotions are now ordered into tiers which are available through technologies
  • Once you start on the military part of the tech tree you unlock the barracks and stables, and further techs advance you in progress through the tiers
  • Barracks and stables are required to build better units and are more expensive now, in the early game without barracks you can only make use of skirmishers (new unit), axemen, spearmen, chariots and warriors
  • When you have built the appropriate temple (hammers variety) you can start paying for equipment upgrades, placing a unit in that city will allow you to buy special promotions which will improve the unit (for example the archer's improved bows give it a first strike)
  • The Advanced Archer can now deal collateral damage!

Promotion Tiers and new Promotion effects
Promotions can now increase your %age for attacking and %age for defending, instead of just overall combat str.

Promotions can now give you first strikes if the unit is on a feature (in this mod the Melee Tier III Ambush promotion gives +2 first strike chances from being in a forest)

Promotions can now give units collateral damage where previously they had none!

There are many different tiers, each providing stronger benefits to the unit, in order to obtain the next tiers promotions, you must have acquired all the promotions of the previous tier and have the necessary technology

Melee tier tree: Auxilia -> Hastati -> Principes -> Triarii -> Praetorian

This tier tree is mostly focused on healing and fighting other types of units

Mounted tier tree: Cavalry Auxilia -> Equites -> Foederati -> Patricii

This tier tree is mostly focused on fighting melee units and scouting/pillaging

Archer tier tree: (to be named, there are three tiers however)

This tier tree is focused on defending cities and starting to deal collateral.

The Effect
The effect of my military rework is to hopefully create 3 distinct military "eras". In the early game your main goal is simply having large numbers of units to survive, in the middle game your goal is to have a large army and experienced units to make use of the promotion tiers. By the late game you will also need lots of money to upgrade your more veteran troops with new armour to create the most fearsome armies!
