[NFP] January Update Video Discussion

It appears to be either Renaissance or Medieval. possibly a crossbow replacement.

No unique infrastructure for Vietnam in the screenies? Makes you wonder whether they may have a Unique Preserve...

people have mentioned how the preserve is great for maori, bull moose teddy, and australia, but what about brazil???? their rainforests give BONUS appeal, and now you can surround them with preserves and get some super high-yield high-appeal rainforest national parks. and then on top of that id you build the eiffel tower and the biosphere??? :crazyeye::crazyeye::crazyeye:
edit: and im just now remembering: CHICHEN ITZA on top of all that?????? *chef's kiss*

though i will say it looks like mapuche wont be able to benefit any, since their only use for appeal is the chemamull, which counts as an improvement, which takes away the preserve buffs

I like how they literally just showed Kublai's ability taking place in the video. I guess the "Eureka from trading posts" thing is invariably confirmed now.

Not sure how I feel about the preserve district I really wanted services and infrastructure better represented like police station, hospital etc.

I like that its avaliable early though although it feels weird to call it a 'district'. Will it be cheaper than other districts considering its more about designating a space rather than building anything? The possibility of having more specialised cities focused on faith/science while industrial cities lay elsewhere sounds pretty good.

The housing seems a bit random, how is it granting housing? 3 Housing is 6 Farms worth of housing right? Farms give you food but so does the preserve with the grove plus faith and if you get breathtaking you will get culture too.

I dunno seems a bit off that unimproved land can go tit for tat with land dedicated to agriculture but maybe I'm missing something this is just my initial reaction.

I know what you mean but I think it's more in "housing" meaning a renamed health mechanic. People don't live in sewers either.

Just randomly got thrown into this game - i think its 2 weeks early.

Probably the source of the biggest confusion regarding Kublai Khan :

Those without RF will still have access to Kublai Khan, just with him only leading China.

Those with Rise and Fall will have access to Kublai Khan leading Monglia.

The Preserve seems interesting. I like the appeal game, so that will be a fun one to play with. I'm wondering whether it's a green district and doesn't take a district slot.

The Preserve also gives housing from appeal, just like Neighbourhoods. So those two districts are sort of competing over the same design space. I'll look forward to trying them out and seeing how they feel. At this point it seems like Preserves might just be a strictly better Neighbourhood?

I'm curious to know if we can built it multiple times.

cant get the screenshot right now but if you pause the video on the right half a second you can see the icon for the preserve is in fact green, and looks like the shinto-ish arches in the actual district

edit: its at 3:52

I'm glad a district finally got inspiration from another culture other than western aesthetics. Holy Sites and Amphitheater are clearly Greek-y but it's nice to see a little Japanese-y with the torii gates.

Almost certainly Lady Triệu. She also seems to be holding her spear over her shoulder. My guess is she uses Gorgo's animations.

I find it weird that they keep honing on the "all animations are custom" and we DO see unique animations. I wonder if they just reduce the amount of animations they need to make (because of the release cycle of these packs) to just the important ones (first meet, defeated, declaration of wars, being declared on) and keep the more common ones (yes, no, idle) as being reused.

Preserve coming out of the left field as a new district. Pretty cool though. It seems they've noticed a lot of players like their Natural Park building, and they are doubling down on it. Bull Moose Teddy is going to love it.

Preserve is an interesting idea, although I feel like it would better be an Improvement instead of a District. It also seems like a combination with Holy Site and Neighborhoods.

Welp, seems that they went for the double leader with Kublai. Also, the video seems to more or less confirm that his leader ability is giving you a Eureka and Inspiration when you finish a trading post for the first time in a civ.

Also, it seems that Kublai doesn't get any other bonuses on international trade routes. I wonder what his other abilities are, since that Eureka and Inspiration boost is very situational.

Blurring of leader avatar at 3:28 timestamp was few frames short in the video. Managed to grab this

Probably Lady Triệu then. Not something I really like - not a fan of purely mythical leader who was invented nearly a millennium later than supposed - but I can accept. Welcome to Civ series Vietnam.
