javascript polluting websites

dude, i'm just annoyed by all those social media crap popping up on every site. among other stuff.
and yeah, while i do have a facebook account i don't want facebook to track whatever site i visit.
and they can easily do that even without cookies if their bloody javascript is embedded in every damn site.

it's not a matter of i-suck-because-i'm-too-poor-to-afford-a-decent-internet-connection.
and for the record: I have 16 mbit flat and I pay €25 a month. That comes with a free cable telephone flat. 50 mbit would cost me about €29 a month, but 16 is satisfactory.

and besides: too much javascript slows down your browsing experience not just because of long load times, but because it takes CPU power to run, especially if the code is crap. Even I notice it on some sites and my laptop is among the top models.

Don't blame the technology, blame the sites that don't know how to use it properly. Disabling javascript will in many cases make your web experience.. incomplete.. and a bunch of sites probably won't even work.

Javascript is an integral part of the web and that's not changing anytime soon.. If anything, there will be more and more of it in the future. I agree that some people are abusing the technology, but I don't think that turning JS off completely is a good idea

Let's just say that i only block unnecessary scripts.

Yeah, I know, I saw that. And I gotta say, I would never have the energy to do that So, I am rather impressed with your diligence. I am far too lazy to maintain my computer like that. My comment wasn't directed at you, or at anyone else in particular either, just all the people out there who are so paranoid they turn JS completely off.

I use the ghostery plugin, which disables any malicious scripts for me. I think it mostly disables tracking ones, but so far I haven't ran into any issues. What's eye opening is all the stuff it blocks as you're surfing the web

I use HTTPS Everywhere, Ghostery and AdBlock -- the combination of these three actually break a substantial number of websites, even though they are very selective and really ought to just be the default setting in any web browser. I very often have to turn them off or load the sites in incognito mode (which has these addons disabled) in order to view certain sites correctly. It's most obvious on the comment section on some websites, but sometimes it's actually the entire interface/menu/order system of the site that inexplicably depends on Google Analytics or whatever in order to function...

While I can appreciate the snarky narcissism of your quip, your complete lack of empathy is apparent. Allow me to enlighten you before I depart, while everyone can have a good laugh at the rural hick stuck with a 3rd world connection it's imperative you understand some of us don't have much of a choice.

Broadband access in the area I live and work in is expensive and data caps are ridiculously low. While I could afford it, it's against my principles to pay their exorbitant prices. I am not complaining, after all, it's my decision. If you feel I hijacked your thread, I"m sorry. However, I believe my contributions were applicable to the topic at hand and I do not appreciate your implied intolerance.

And replying to that person, 5mbit/s cannot be a requirement to see web pages! Especially in this age when everyone kind of needs access to the internet, not everyone can have fast access, and people see pages using all kinds of different devices with different capabilities.

I said it's the slowest internet I'd bother with.

If I've only got dial-up internet available, I'd stick to internet-related activities.
