Attempt immediate steal from Greece (via spy) - Success!
We now have Computers
I chose Computers over Ecology as it gives an immediate benefit (MI) and our bombard then bomb tactics don't require high offense units. Taking and holding seems to be our best bet at this time.

Bomb out Greek Furs
Bomb out RT 2SE Corinth
Bomb out RT SE Sparta
Bomb out RT NE Athens
Bomb Athens

Notes
The majority of our ground forces are in Herakleia (still with movement) for the next player to deploy as he sees fit. Herakleia is a good forward base allowing us to bomb Athens but it's also a high flip risk.

I've left a bomber or two at home to sink some of the Greek navy.

I had to do the Wines deal to get Maya back in the war.

We should be able to steal Ecology next turn ot the turn after.

Uploads don't seem to be working & the file's too big to attach. I'll try again later.

Preturn: There is a lot of artillery that is unmoved. I move it onto the hill so I can bombard and bomb sparta. Sparta had a good wonder if I remember correctly.

IBT: Very bad news - Heraclea flipped back and took our bombers with it. We lost almost our entire airforce - 5 or so bombers were in back towns out of 30 odd. We also lose most our tanks (I moved some with the artillery). Our large artillery stack is alive. I wish I had taken all the tanks with me

Some other attacks from greeke MA occur and we lose 2 TOW.

1792 AD: Our artillery bombards sparta and redlines at about the same time we run out of Artillery. No bombers reach so it will be harder to take the town. I do use our back bombers to kill Heraclia's defender and take back the town.

I had 3 tanks and one Mech inf that can attack Sparta. The 3 tanks win. The mech loses vs a 1 hp mech. I cover with some TOW. Units are spread a bit thin... I upgrade our infantry to Mech Inf. I draft a few Mech inf in outlying towns on our island.

IBT: Some attacks by the Greeks.

1794 AD: Attack on Sparta - city is still too well defended. Kill off other units.

IBT: A town I made to push back the border is attacked with Modern armor and destroyed.

1796 AD: I finally take Sparta. I was really worried the Mayans would get it so I used even injured units in the attack and casualties were higher than I hoped. Our few bombers were very bad at taking out any units. Note that the town is size 1 due to the intense bombardment.

Cute... We now own Hoover, Leo, SETI, Newton, TOE.

IBT: Hold onto the towns we own. We may have to stop beating on the Greeks at some point... they are starting to collapse.

1798 AD: Working on foritifying towns vs attack. I draft several units.

IBT: Some more attacks but we Hold. More Mayan progress vs the Greeks.

1800 AD: I will stop here after 5. I am sending my Artillery after the next Greek city. Our defenses are momentarily reasonable I think.

Notes:
One thing to discuss. Do We want to Mobilize? I am thinking we should.

Neither AI has build a spaceship part. The war must be too intense.

I am worried that the Mayans may becoming too strong and we may have to switch sides.

I spent more than I saved upgrading units. Unfortunately, I had to do the upgrade to get the town with Leo's which is backward.

We are getting back 427 gpt soon from Maya. That will help the finances a good bit.

Sparta has an Airport.

I noticed we lost the town that gave us aluminum.

We are still very short on Tanks and Bombers (3 and 12, but now have 51 Mech, and 60 Artillery.

Greece has started building fighters and shooting down our bombers.

The workers are on clear damage duty.

I was wondering if we should switch to taking out Greeks weaker towns. The struggle for sparta was large and Mayans got more towns while we went for that one. We have an attack on one greek town lined up, but mabye switching to washington after that? We have 24 % of the land area and need 10% more to stop a domination win by Maya.

This is a picture of the power graph and the state of the world in 1700 and 1800 AD.

The Save

Kuningas, With Ben out of town you are up next.

got it.
I attack cities on north, Washington etc.
We may consider to switch sides when MA ends.

Kuningas,

I left the game with a massive artillery barrage of Corinth which is cut off from the rest of Greece.

I set it up before I realized the N made more sense. It probably makes sense to take out that city first (will take 2-3 turns) and then turn North.

Also be careful of doing lots of damage to a city and then having the Mayans steal it. They have threatened this on more than one occasion (and pulled it off once, but the Greeks to the city back fortunately).

I think we will be definitely switching sides as you stated. We may even be forced to break our MA if the Mayans start getting close to Domination (they are at 40%).

0 - 1800AD
MM -> ready to fly.

Lost 2 Mechs
1 - 1802AD

Invasion of Corinth begins.
Artillery bombardments on this turn.

I renew deal, Dyes and Spices for Ivory, Furs, and 17gpt.

IT Maya brings 10 MA next to Corinth.
2 - 1804AD

Corinth captured in front of Mayan troops.

3 - 1806AD
I want some Aluminum for us. Philadelphia and Atlanta have one source.
Washington captured.

IT Corinth flipped back to Greeks. Lost 3 Mechs and TOW.
4 - 1808AD

Corinth recaptured. I built town near it in last turn.

5 - 1810AD
Philadelphia and our Aluminum source secured.
I'm getting too excited, trying to capture Miami. Lost 1 Tank and Mech. D'Oh, they got GL. I give it one more shot, 2 vet Mechs attack vs 2 redlined Mechs and Miami captured. Well GL wasn't there.

-I left 10 Bombers on Texcoco unmoved.

-I didn't mobilize. We are accelerating towards 50 000 cp. Mobilization would kill the culture growth.

- At this rate Greece be extinct in 40-50 years.

BTW. What is that thing on the sea?

Good work Kuningas; we gained 4% of the world area while the [Edit] Mayan gained none (although they did gain people).

My thought is we should continue in the north. Hopefully, we can take cities faster than Maya can if we do this. I would like to keep the Mayans as far from domination as possible. Things may be brutal when we declare war on them.

Ted, you are up. Good Luck to ya. I am getting hopeful we can win this.

Have they started the spaceship yet? I keep expecting them to have started it and they never have. It must be the war. Both mobilized? Can they not build apollo because of it?

Greebley, They are both mobilized.

I forgot to move workers for connecting Miami to rest of our empire.

Got it

Fail to plant spy in Greece
Attempt immediate steal vs Maya - failure
Bomb & destroy the RT protecting Argos
Move Artillery & escorts to WSW Sparta

Notes
We're at the point where we need to switch sides and start attacking Maya. There are only 4 more turns on the MA vs Greece but there are several other deals that we need to cancel before making the switch.

I had mixed luck with steals. Remember we need to plant spies in both Greece and Maya.

I've left 4 Bombers on our continent to deal with any invasion forces that might land.

The save is > here <

I'm back in town and will be able to play during my normal spot in the rotation.

I'm sorry to hear about the air force debacle, but it's not a complete surprise. We've been fighting on borrowed time since we landed on the continent. If we can get our aluminum supply back up, we may still bounce back.

Here's to hoping that Mars smiles upon the glorious Byzantine army!

Ben, We have aluminum, but it is very precarious

Preturn: Make only a few minor changes

IBT: Greek activity is pretty minimal.

1822 AD: I am really worried about the Mayans. I make peace with the Greeks - they won't give us a meaningful tech, but will give us Athens (the only city they will trade -after all it is a recent aquirement and only size 1 ) I make peace with the Greeks so I can plan war with the Mayans.

IBT: More Greek cities fall. This is getting bad.

1824 AD: I rush mechs and transport some over. I am going to try declaring war next turn. It is going to be bad though.

IBT:

1826 AD: Steal immediately from Mayans. Both a tech or war is good. We succeed and I take Miniturization to build offshore platforms and get our number of shields up.

IBT: Mayan counters kill some of our defenders, but don't make any serious assaults.

1828 AD: Mostly I try to shore up our defenses. This is a very difficult war.

IBT: A brutal turn. The Mayans hit hard and kill several defenders. Smyrna falls and is destroyed. Even worse Ulundi flips to the Greeks. It contained some artillery which we lose. Another small group of artillery is also captured. but is not destroyed so I may be able to recapture.

1830 AD: Trying to shor up our front lines.

Notes:
The war is extremely brutal. You will want to play when well rested.

Our rep with the Mayan is toast.

I have been massively overdrafting and still our defenses are weak. Ben, I suspect you will be spending a good bit of time shoring them up.

I would concentrate on taking Mayan towns "behind lines" to make the border as short as possible.

On town defenses, you will notice undefended or underdefended towns. These are towns the Mayans cannot reach in one turn. If you see an underdefended town that can be reached by an MA, then I made a mistake. It is difficult to compute sometimes.

The first Mayan stealth Bomber was seen last turn.

We are up to 31% land area and Maya are down to 41%. So progress has been made - I needed to spend money on defense, but hopefully we can go back to gaining money for steals. We would need seven steals for the spaceship. I am unsure if Domination or Space is better.

The AI almost certainly have all the tech for the spaceship. They definitely have robotics since they have Radar artillery. They must be kept at war or else they can build apollo.

Since we hope to steal all our techs I put research at min on Genetics (some of those wonders could be useful - though the game is more likely to be over before then).

I'll get on it ASAP. Focus will be on not losing ground. The secondary goal is to get up to 35% land and hold onto it to keep the Mayans from Dominating.

I still think the way to go is Domination. It's the path that gets us closer to victory as we push the Mayans farther from it, whereas pushing for the SS saps resources that provide no immediate return. Thoughts from the team?

Ya, that makes sense. Do we want to continue to steal tech? Getting Nuclear power and Robotics adds our base production to all cities which would be really helpful. Once we steal those techs we can decide if spaceship (which is only 3 techs away or so at that point) has any merit. I suspect we will have sufficient land to make domination easier, but if not, we are close to launch.

On the other hand, rush things that would be helpful since we are going for domination.

Once we get all the mayan cities on the greek side of our line, things will be much easier. Note that we have an ROP with Greece.

I'm getting through it, just slowly. I had visitors from the far side of the Mississippi River this week, so that's been interfering.

We should steal our way to nuclear weapons, and my turns will reflect this opinion.

We have the UN? I just turned down the vote on principle, but this may be something for us to consider. Maybe Greece would just abstain, and maybe they'll be dead before we can vote again, or maybe we can pull off the classic "Hail Mary" play of Civ3.
