Quite frequently, when I get home after work and begin switching between channels on my TV, I stumble upon this show. I think most of you know it or at least are familiar with such kind of shows. They usually have some people sitting in front of audience and discussing their family or other personal problems. Pretty often it comes to fighting (there're special people from the TV staff who separate them) - that's when the audience's excitement reaches its peak - like in Canadian hockey. ;)

I'm disappointed with the fact the number of similiar shows is growing in our country and each channel has at least one in prime-time.

What's the situation with such shows in your countries? Are they popular?

These abominable programmes also abound on British TV. Viewers and participants alike should be rounded up and sent on a special package holiday to Baghdad.

 The Jerry Springer show has infected the world like a virus. Turn your TV off!
:ack: :vomit:
This is why I don't watch TV anymore
The best thing on American TV is not even American ,
The BBC

Jerry Springer is great :goodjob:

If you're ever feeling down, or feel life has thrown you for a loop and it couldn't get any worse, just watch a few minutes of Jerry Springer. You'll feel like an intellectual blessed by your good fortunate in a matter of two segments.

If you've ever seen Jerry Springer outside his show, he is actually a very intelligent and forthright individual. He is very honest about the ridiculous nature of his show and goes to extreme lengths to emphasize that it is entertainment, nothing else. Almost like professional wrestling.

Jerry was once the mayor of Cincinatti and there is now talk of him either running for Senate or Governor in 2004 or 2006.

people watch the Springer show so they can see how good they really have it. Its a good show to watch and realize that at least your better than some people.

We have a better one (or worse) in Portugal. It's called Bombástico (=Bombastic). It has pretty much what Jerry Springer has and more. The presentator is a show of his own in the show. He brings people that believe they were victims of injustice in court or that thought they should go to court or whatever. In one of the shows he brought a woman whose husband was in jail and threatened to kill her her as soon as he got out. He turned to the camera and said: "Hey you, yes I'm talking to you (to the husband of the woman)! Fight someone of your size, I'm not afraid of you! If you harm this woman I'm gonna be after you. Be very careful....", and so on. But the best one was when he was bringing this case where an educater had been accused to sexually abuse of one child .He had a copy of the court's decision where the man was found guilty of bad conduct, but not paedophilY (sp?). "Look at this, this judges are all crap, what a sons of *****. I depise you all!! And worst than everything, the facts that he was not found guilty for are the worst. and this guy continues to work. Shame, shame,...". Minutes later the parents of the girl in question called the show to say that the guy had been already fired and that the acusations against him were not of paedophily.

For once I agree with Greadius :rotfl:

Jerry is king. All hail king Jerry

:king:

It makes me glad that even when us Brits try to emulate it with our own shows, we don't get anywhere near as sick as you Americans do.

These shows have been practically the only thing that private TV had run on the afternoon for years.
Recently they have all been substituted for "courtroom shows" and "counseling shows". Basically the topic is still sex.

Try watching "Ratinho" in Brazil - absolutely fantastic.

I too hated all Springeralikes until I saw this and could not stop since. It's gotten a little formulaic, and the advertising would make the ITC weep here in Britain, but the DNA test is best.

Basically there are a few people around who are concerned either that a) their child is not of their blood, b) deny that a child is their own (okay you guessed it's mostly men). So, Ratinho in all his malevolence pays for a DNA test to be done and has the mother and potential father on the show before, and after the test.

It is absolutely amazing how they fight. I think nowadays they are required to leave their shoes behind before going on stage!

I saw one where two women were fighting (new wife/old wife) and the new wife had her clothes torn to shreds...She actually enjoyed it and carried on fighting!

Another guy didn't think he was the father of his son. Upsetting I know but it turned out that he was the biological father of his son...well that particular son - the other three children he'd been bringing up weren't his!

Etc.

"Parabems papai!!!"

Jerry springer WAS here on TV toghether with Ricky Lake but we Belgians just didnt watched and now you dont see those shows anymore...

The Springer Show is the television equivalent of a bloody wreck on the freeway (motorway/autobahn, etc., etc.). It's horrifying, dehumanizing ... and you can't take your eyes off of it. In fact, you'll slow down to get a better look.

I love it. It's my trash TV and I ain't giving it up.

If you think about it, he's a great buisnessman. He found a vein in the market and he struck gold. He knows what people who are home at 1 pm want to see. ;)

I don't watch the show on a regular basis, but I agree completely with Greadius.

Also keep in mind that some of the people they have on the show are actors and actresses, just to spice things up a bit.

Yes, it's a low form of entertainment, but so are cockfights. They just won't go away.

hated that show. i'm glad he's quiting to persue a career in politics. half glad because he won't be very succesful, and half because the show will be over.
