JJ01-Moving up to Monarch

One more thinks, I can not check save, but when I sad no more wanders for a time, I mean global wanders. Please, build National Epic in Deli to make most of use of wanders and 2 free scientist there. Otherwize, no wanders:)

Thanks Mutineer. I built National Epic in Delhi during my turns. :)

I was wondering about that too. I will go ahead and patch as well.

I have also decided to patch. I am starting another new game (anyone interested?) and decided that it should go from the start with the new patch.

Loads of changes have been made by the patch. In my current single player game, the civics changes made a decent difference to my economy. I also have every single opposition AI refusing to open borders with me now.. not sure if that's got anything to do with the patch though :P.

I started the turns, played until 1040, but now I need advice.
1. What to do with Great Scientist?
2. Where should I whip? I am hesitant to whip cities when they already have 2 or three happiness penalties because of whipping and another whip would give them an unhappy face for 25 turns.
3. Anything else.

I razed Walata with the loss of one mace, one axe, and a suicide cat. I also founded a city in the jungle near Djenne. I am happy to stop here but could also continue playing.

Ok, seems bouth of you did not read my comments carefully.
I open save and found empire in complite mess.

First, it does not matter if it is 100 turns for unhappiness to dissipitate, if you do not need population size higher then you still have happiness for.
Second, please, reread all my comments about city managment form concurent turns, open my saves from all turns or change I did and compare them to yours. I see no many bothered to do so or look on my city managment as something unnessasary.

Ok, we running Theocracy/slavery but producing only buildings and are not wipping anything. At the same time we have ordered X-Bow in Timbuki, city with out baracks. WE have 1-2-3 unhappy in all cities and we do not use culture slider. We building theater in new city, but do not have missionary running to convert it or other occupied cities.

Revolted to orgonised religion. Whiped lots of buildings. Raised culture slider to 10%. Order workers to hook up gems. Order workers to build mine at new city? Why we are building windmills at timbyki? Timbyki have enoght execc food to work mach more productive mines.
To many farms builded in Djieen.

Well, it took me a few turns to put everything back in order.
There are pictures I add in order to illustrate how to manage city exess food population. Even if you do not do that, do not forget that you have CULTURE SLIDER and can use military units to reduce unhappiness.

(I propouse to grow our capital fast and use x-bows to control happiness)

There picture illustrated how to expand borders in new cities fast later in game. Please, do not forget to remove culture building after it's border expand.

Actially after every turn you need to get in habbit of pressing F10 and go try all your cities and micromanage them.

I use scientist to finish Education, start research philosofy, Liberalism next with Mationalism as a free tech, Military tradition-gunpowder.

Please, revotl to Pacifism/serfdom after philosofy finished.
No one of you seems to undestand that we can change civics every 5 TURNS for free and refuse to use this advantage.

Culture slider back to 0, but never fear to move culture slider up!

Not much to say. Basically, I know most of this, I just need to pay attention. I felt like something was going wrong during my turns, but I just didn't pay enough attention to all the options. I need to play slower to be able to play at this level. Sorry, hopefully I will learn not to rush from this SG.

Well, first let me say this. Mutineer: I understand that, although your English quite good, it is difficult to communicate polite and appropriate criticism on a message board because we have no body language or voice inflection to soften our words. I only ask that you keep your posts respectful and polite. We are here to have fun, not to be berated. Although your post was probably not meant in such a way, it is easy to read it that way.

To the game: I have a question about your example of management for Djenne (I take it this is one of the examples you wish the group to follow). Why are all farm tiles being worked? The city is currently at max happiness. I would think that we would want to work the dye tiles or slow growth even further by running specialists. Is the idea to whip this pop for buildings? Perhaps a brief explanation for the reasons each of the three cities are set up how they are would be helpful.

About the serfdom/paci vs. slavery/theo. MM: I am not sure how critical it is just at this stage. Yes, the saved worker turns are helpful, but we don't even have pacifism yet. Once we have philosophy it will indeed be nice to pop 2 or 3 gp in a short time span, but we are not there just yet. But you are right, it is more efficient with MM even at this stage.

I was also surprised to see farms all around Djenne. I had built one extra during my concurrent set (while waiting on border pop) but I thought everyone knew this was a prime commerce city. 2 farms (plus the cow) should plenty to keep it growing until happ. is reached, then work the commerce tiles until happ./health allow growth, then switch to farms until growth. Later game tile improvement changes we can talk about when the time comes.

I think the farms around Djenne were built by the AI. I didn't build any. I understand the first two city managements but I am not sure why you want to work the farms instead of the dyes at Djenne.

To the game: why does your example of the city mgt. that you are aiming for in Djenne have it working all farms? Are you wanting to whip there? I too was surprised to see it surrounded by farms, as it looks like a natural commerce city. In a case like this 2 farms (plus the cows) are plenty to quickly grow to happ. limit, then switch to working commerce tiles. When happ./health limit goes up, work the farms to quicly grow to the new limit and then move back to commerce tiles. I think this is a generally good strategy for nearly any difficulty level (for commerce cities at mid-game at least) correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, that is correct to degree, after you whiped all basic infrastructure. Look on it, it will work 1 mine and I cow for shields in futere. With this speed it will never build anything.

So, it is mach better to use farms to whipe all basic infrustructure, happiness and commerce buildings.

But again +8 food execc is enogth to do all whiping.

Right now I just whiped something there and intent is to whipe temple, Market and colliseum( all this whipes would be happiness neitral or better, as all this building will bring happiness) and then natural build theater.

So, right now whipping infrustructure is priority with switch to working cottagess after that.

About politness. I think I was polite. I do not know any other way to express criticizm more polite then that.

If you prefure something like: "You, the stuped sonnava***** that does not listen to the word I am saying." :) :)

I can do that. But some how I am sure you would not like that.

Ofcouse people come here to have fun, but at the same time they like to have fun when winning. Some how it is allways more fun.
Partially it is probably cultural thin. We, Russian, tend to be far more direct then Wastern folk.

Actually, I did read your remarks and tried to follow them. I switched civics to slavery / theocracy to whip the maces for our war with Mansa, but the requisite 5 turns to switch back had not yet expired when my turns ended. Also, I am already in the habit of checking all cities each turn, although I admit that I still have much learn about city management.

BTW - Your tone really doesn't bother me. So long as the intent is to improve game play and is not a personal attack, no worries!

Bigfoot, to be true I did not look on your save, so, may be my comment do not apply to you.
I just look on last save. If you load it you will see what do I mean.

So, will Jeep finish out his set or is it time to pass it on? Let me know, I should be able to play tonight or in the morning.

I followed the civic change MM plan and it worked remarkably well. Here is more or less how it worked: Essentially I whipped a set of buildings just before swithching to serfdom/ pacifism. I set most cities to build units during pacifism and developed the west side of the continent along with Djenne and the newly conquered city in the north. After 5 or 6 turns went back to slavery/org religion, by which time the low hammer cities had grown enough to whip the unit they had been building followed by a building.

I ran a priest in Madras for a few turns so that it would beat Delhi to the 500 point GP (turned out to be a Great Merchant). About 4 turns later, after switching back to Org Religion, Delhi popped a Great Engineer (I played an extra turn so that we would know what the second GP would be for discussion). So we have those two GP to decide on. Timbuktu is building Forbidden Palace.

There is a settler right next to the purple dot on Bigfoot's dot map. I would suggest settling Purple Dot and settling the next city one tile NE of the blue dot on Bigfoot's map to minimize overlap (as shown by the green outline in the screenie). Qin has a boat with a settler on it headed around the continent, but probably 6 or 7 turns before he could get them up to any unsettled area. We should settle it by that time.

We finished off Mansa and I thought long and hard about whether to raze the city. In the end, the fact that Roosevelt had a ship literally sitting and waiting to offload a settler and a longbow on top of the potential city ruins made me decide to keep the city. It will come out of revolt in one turn and has already gotten Confucianism.

I didn't make any tech trades, although we might consider trading with Roosevelt. I'm just not comfortable with Tech Trading cause I can't seem to suss out the medium term effects for us. Hopefully the next person can do something with it.

Screens show 1) the GP's (and Qin's boat); 2) The settling situation in the northwest.
