JJ01-Moving up to Monarch

Builders turns.

Revolted to US/Free speach.
Open borders to Khan to make max use of Free market.

Build Wall street in Deli, where it should go, because it is our holly city.
Wespoint in proces of building in Timbuki as it is best synergy with Heroic epic.
Research railroad.
Confuse many of chinise cities, but some still not confused.
Order some monartery to be able build missionaries with out civic.
Order factories in our production cities.
Basicly I would advice to do may be one more set of builders turns and then war! Roosvelt need to be brought down befor he got infantry!

I am at work and cannot look at the save right now, but it sounds like we are making excellent progress. I will try to play my turns tonight.

1775 AD - Pre-turn:

- 864G, +49gpt, research at 80% with RR due in 7 turns.
- We are running Free Speech, Emancipation, Free Mkt, Org. Religion.
- Our army has 8 LB, 2 chariots, 1 horse archer, 13 cav, 8 axes, 4 maces, 12 cannon, 7 muskets, 2 rifles, 7 grenadiers, 1 infantry, 2 galleons, 1 galley, 2 frigates. Unit support is still pretty low, continue to build up for war with Roosevelt.
- We have open borders with Khan and Lizze. Diplo. relations not very good, Roos. is at -3, Lizzie is +1, Isabella is -3, Khan is at 0. We are going to need a navy pretty soon to safeguard our homeland.
- Building a bank in Bombay, I would prefer Oxford there to double its 130 beakers. Queue it up next.
- Lahore looks like a good spot for Iron Works. Once it has a factory and coal plant it will need a duct as well.
- Maybe we should build the FP in Shanghai? City maintenance in Chinese land is pretty high due to distance from capital.
- Some MM tweaks gets RR due in 6 turns and income of 52gpt.

<IBT: Bangalore missionary => gren., Nanjing theater => Conf. temple.>

T1:
- Worker stuff, not a lot going on. Continue with building windmills near Goa so it can grow and use more tiles.

<IBT: Lots of builds completed, I was not able to record them all...>

T2:
- Change civics to Nationhood-Theocracy, want to start drafting some infantry to take on Roos.
- Draft inf. in Calcutta, Djenne and Kumbi Saleh.
- Rush theaters in Xian and Chengdu.
- Missionaries working to spread Conf. in remaining Chinese cities.

T3:

<IBT: Hear the trumpet, it must be Roosevelt finally declaring war. Nope, its Khan who declares!>

T4:
- Khan landed a force next to Kolhapur (defended by a lone chariot) of 3 cav, 1 rifle, 2 muskets and 3 cats. There are 3 frigates and 3 galleons in his naval task force.
- Draft infantry in Kolhapur, Karachi and Lahore. Upgrade the chariot to cav.
- Move a second inf. into Kolhapur and cross my fingers.
- The infantry headed for China turn around to go deal with the Mongolian invaders.
- Trade Lizzie silk for 7 gpt.
- Trade Isabella wheat for 8 gpt.

<IBT: In Kolhapur an inf. dies to a lucky cav.; another cav. dies attacking the second inf.; now Khan decides to bombard the city (why didn't the AI bombard first? ); no other attacks at Kolhapur, but their navy tears up some fishing nets.>

T5:
- Cav. loses to a musket, despite good odds.
- Inf. picks off the wounded cav.
- Draft another inf. in Kolhapur.
- Draft inf. in Bangalore and Madras.
- Relief forces are on the way (2 inf., 2 grenadiers, 1 cavalry -- should be enough to deal with what's left).
- We have a lone frigate near Khan's eastern-most city, he has quite a few cav. there so a second landing seems likely.

Here is the situation by Kolhapur:

jj01_1800AD.JPG

Obviously this changes things quite a bit. I expect that Roosevelt will declare soon as well, which would mean a two front war. We are not in a position to attack Khan (only 2 galleons, both on the Chinese front), he is not likely to make peace until we hurt him some. Anyway Roosevelt is still the logical target, and we don't want to wait until he gets infantry and machine guns.

My suggestion is that we research Combustion after RR, and trade for Sci. Method now to find out where the oil is. It would be nice to have some destroyers to safeguard our western shores. It would also be good to get Lizzie and Isabella fighting against Khan to keep him busy while we take down Roosevelt. A world war will slow down the general tech pace as well. After combustion we could research Industrialization (for tanks) to seal Roosevelt's fate.

BTW, I think that 5 turns per person is a good idea at this point, I find it takes quite a while to MM everything now that our empire has grown. So I will turn this over now, unless you want me to take another 5 turns. We have enough forces near Kolhapur to deal with the first landing, but we should also get more infantry near Delhi and Bombay, both are quite vulnerable.

Roster:
- Jeejeep -- UP
- rddc05 -- on deck
- TomPW
- Kikinit
- Mutineer
- Bigfoot -- Just played (unless you want me to take another 5)

God I hate Kahn. Hopefully our his war will only help us in the long run with getting more experienced units, and a stack of defenders can be turned into the army we send at Roosy. I don't really have a view on the 5/10 turns thing, I'll go with whatever the team decide.

Tom

I don't mind people playing 5 turns late game especially when we are at war. Ti can take a long time to play the turns and do the reporting.

On the game, It seems you are holding off his initial attack ok. That 3 frigates + 3 galleons makes it a bit difficult to quickly throw together a navy big enough to challenge. Will Isabella and Elizabeth even contemplate going to war with Khan or is it red?

To me your idea about a world war would be best as Roosevelt has his whole empire on our border and could attack us at any time. Once we have railroad, we will be able to have a big stack or two on our home continent and shift it around fast to deal with what Khan can throw at us.

For me Khan is just a minor nusance.
Just kill stack he trow at us, do need some units. WE just saw power of Mystical trat - you nevern afraid of sudden attack, as you can switch to nationalism+ any rush civic and draft/buy the same turn.
He will agree on peace after we kill bunch of his stacks. We just need to produce some navy to protect our nets.

I will play another 5 turns tonight.

1800AD (cont.)

- So much for my idea of starting a world war, neither Lizzie nor Isabella are willing to declare on Khan.

<IBT: Khan bombards some more and also does some pillaging around Kolpahur. His fleet tears up more fishing nets. A lot of builds completed during this turn and others, I gave up trying to document them all.>

T6:
- Relief forces arrive and clear the field at Kolpahur, kill a total of 6 units without a loss.
- Draft inf. out of Goa, Beijing and Xian.

<IBT: Lose one of our frigates; RR => Combustion.>

T7:
- Draft inf. out of Delhi, Bombay and Madras.
- Cannot start building rails yet because Khan pillaged our only source of coal. Workers move to the scene to reconnect it.

T8:
- Move some defenders to 'at risk' cities. Other builds start heading for China for the coming war with Roosevelt.
- Draft inf. from Kumbi Saleh, Hangzhou and Goa.

T9:
- Draft inf. from Djenne, Tianjin and Bangalore. Still moving units to the front.

T10:
- Coal is connected again, workers begin building a rail net.
- Draft inf. from Calcutta, Guangzhou and Tiajin.

Recap:

- Khan's first landing is wiped out, but he has pillaged all but one of our seafood resources (by Bombay -- he will get that one next turn). Not much I could do about it, but the situatuion will change once we get some destroyers prowling around.

- Our army now has 8 LB, 1 chariot, 1 horse archer, 13 cav, 8 axes, 4 maces, 14 cannon, 7 muskets, 2 rifles, 7 grenadiers, 26 infantry, 1 galley, 2 galleons, 1 frigate.

- A lot of our infantry are spread around defending possible landing sites from Khan, but we still have ample muscle to take on Roosevelt. I did not 'set up' an attack yet because most of our infantry is still enroute. The city with our stack of cannons seems like a good launching point to go claim the American heartland cities for ourselves.

- Combustion is due in 3 turns. I did not make the trade yet, but Lizzie will exchange Sci. Method for Steam. We have 644G and are making +47gpt at 80% research.

Over to Jeejeep!

I will play soon. My plan is to basically get peace with Khan and prepare for war with Roosevelt. Also get a bit of a navy. should I play five turns or ten?

My preference is to play 5 turns from here on, 10 takes quite a bit of time.

IT: looks good.

1. Roosevelt has combustion. trade Elizabeth steam power for scientific Method and all her gold(50). We have five sources of oil.

2.Kobo-Daishi(Great prophet) born in Delhi. Send him to Shanghai to build the Taoist Shrine. Edit::smoke: I just realized the Tao shrine is already there. do whatever with the prophet. combustion-Communism(for state prop)

3/4/5: Moving troops. Nothing really exciting.

thoughts: Khan isn't doing anything, but he refuses to talk. The next player can probably start the war with Roosevelt. atlanta is heavily defended, so I suggest going for Boston. Here is atlanta's defense:

Our stack:

There are also more troops on the way. We will be able to chain irrigation to Chengdu once Xians borders expand. Here is the suggested path:

we need lots of fishing boats and some destroyers to stop roosevelt and Khan from repillaging. Builds were mostly military during my turns but I also started the forbidden Palace on the edge of china near america.

Can I suggest to revolt to republic/Nationalism/Mercatinilism combination? We woudl really benefit from it.

Reasoning.
right now we do not benefit from free market, as we have only one opend border agreement and our trade partner does not have many cities.
AI benefit from as a lot.

So, Free market actially help our competitor. If we choise merkantenilism, we will close our markets (You can not have trade routes with civ in Mercantenilism).

WE actially win stright away as 3 somethign from free specialists > 1 inciv route can bring.

I switch to US in order to buy some basic infrustructure in China and Buy factories in Deli and Timbuki, as it help speed up wanders. So, republic again increase effect of Merkantenilism and statue of liberty we have.
In addition it will make specialists mach more effective then working 2 commerce worter ties. In addition we drafting, so stopping city grow with specialists is a good idea.
Nationalism is 0 upkeep civic and at the moment we still benefit from drafting.
In future free speach would be better choise.
But at the moment, in 2 wars aviability of drafting is a must!

 @ jeejeep. You ask Bigfoot to play 10 then only play 5?

@Mutineer: Mercantilism is a funny one isn't it. You always feel that the more trade routes the better but when no one will actually go open borders, you have so little value from trade routes that the value of a free specialist in all our cities should be worth much more to us at the moment. So yes I agree with you on that.

So rddc's up. Unless JJ's conscience tells him to play another 5.

Well, Bigfoot told me to play five and it seems that he is in charge of the turn rationing around here. It does look a bit funny now. Unless people want me to play ten I am stopping here.

Just one man's opinion!

My screenshots got lost somewhere so this is a screenshotless report

IT: Roosevelt moves two stacks next to Nanjing. Revolt to suggested civics.
1. declare war on Roosevelt and kill the stacks(about 7 cavs, 3 rifles) without any losses.
IT: Exploring cav kills 2 rifles before dying
2: Raze buffalo(city on our continent) Pillage all over Atlanta with cavs. Units healing from turn 1.
IT: Communism-physics
3: finish Destroyer and start work boats in a few cities to replace the ones pillaged by Khan.
4. Move troops. More pillaging.
5: Bombard Boston( defenses at 0). Can't resist taking the city so I play one extra turn.
IT: Kublai offers World map+10 gold for peace. I accept. AI:smoke: Roosevelt researches rocketry:eek: and upgrades all Machine guns to SAM infantry. Much easier to take cities now.
6: Take Boston with no losses.

Notes:

We can revolt to State property if we want

We need to target the cities around Boston to relieve cultural pressure. Atlanta is well defended but the others only have about 2 rifles each. They should be easy to take.

There are three cannons down south. They can be moved up with the main stack.

we would not benefit from state property in any way. It is a bad civic.
Notice that Bosten has Vercalies, so, Forbitten in Nanjin is useless and need to be canceled.
