The fighting should be as realistic as possible. For example, if the United States invaded Canada, he might have his fighter squadons take to the sky to gain superiority first, then he'll want to start bombing say Quebec City, Toronto, and other major cities, and then move his forces city by city. This happens usually within a turn or two, all this can be accomplished. Most wars, for our time's sake, will take one turn. It is best to do strategy like this, I will usually make win the war and your losses less.
