Just Another Religion Mod (BtS / Modular)

How can I remove Freemasonry? I personally don't think it's a religion, and also, I don't think it would have much of a point in my mod.

I was trying to edit this mod to have more religions in it, and I was wondering if anyone knew where the missionaries circled in the posted image could be found? They are supposed to be from Rapture (posted up by Johny Smith) but I can't find these units in there at all. What religions do they belong to?

 look at Rapture. There they are.

I just DLed and unpacked rapture and I am pretty sure I looked through every folder and could not find these two units in there. Perhaps there was some error in the unpacking of it, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know off-hand what religion these units belong to, that could make it easier on me in case I missed something.

is there any merge with BUG mod 4.0 around?

WTH... is there no alpha for your gamefont? how shall I merge the gamefont then with other gamefont files? :(

The python files to have more religions are now included into BUG; just take the two of them abd forget JARM's python files :)

As for the fonts, I personnaly just created a new alpha channel; not as cool but it works.

Not sure if anybody mentioned this before, or if anybody is still working on it, but I noticed the original post states several religions that don't seem to have a name. 'Norse Mythology' is actually still practiced by some people today (though in a much more moderate context, for the most part) and these people are known as 'Norse Pagans'. So the name of the religion is actually 'Norse Paganism'.

It has been mentioned, that Norse Mythology isn't a perfect term, and I can't completely disagree. However there isn't an official name for this "religion". To be precise it isn't even a real religion by definition, because it is missing some characteristics, for example an official holy scripture or a superior organisation. Instead there are myths and legends about the norse gods and so on, and very different movements and believes about these myths and legends. As you allready worte even today there are different of these movements alive (neopaganism), and some of them even have official names. We could use on of these names, but that would only include these one specific movement of many, perhaps 50, 100 or 200 years old. But I want to use a term which is including all movements, like for example the term christanism does include catholic, protestantic, orthodox and more.

You might be right, that norse mythology isn't a perpect term for this religion. But I didn't want to use the term paganism, because paganism is a term used by christian churches to defame foreign believes and might therefore be considered insulting. I don't believe followers of a modern norse religion do call themself paganists. (All right, they want call their religion mythology either, but I think that's a more neutral term.)

However is it easy to rename the religions ingame for your own use, if you simply edit the ChooseReligions_CIV4GameText.xml. It contains only the text shown ingame.

In-game it's called ''Aesir Myth'' anyway, which is a perfect term IMO. It avoids the label Norse or Germanic and just refers to the Aesir group of Gods: Odin/Wodan, Thor/Donar, etc.

Even though its anachronistic I love to use it with the Vikings, Germans, Dutch, and sometimes even English civilizations.

You are right. I didn't want to use the term "norse", because on a random map it is also possible to found this religion deep in the south, so norse wouldn't fit anymore.

Most modern Pagans (from a personal perspective and not a greatly researched one), including myself, do not find the term 'pagan' to be that derogatory, choosing to embrace it instead. In several regions of Canada, and possibly the United States, we have 'Pagan Gatherings' where Pagans of different sects (usually Celtic or Norse religions) group together under a 'Pagan' banner. It is a mostly Christian belief that people might be offended to be called a Pagan.

What does the readme mean by 'modular mod'? My instincts are that it means either 'you can choose to install parts of it', or 'it can easily be inserted into another mod', but I'm unsure. I didn't see any instructions for either in the readme, unless they were there and I didn't understand them. I'm rather hoping it'll be the latter. This mod is neat, but if I could find a way to shove it into a more comprehensive mod, that'd be awesome.

Civ4 has a feature called "modular loading", which can be activated in civilizations ini file. It means something like this: JARM does for example add new units to the game, missionaries for the new religions. Normally the units xml file would be used instead of the file of the vanilla game. So if you edited the vanilla unit xml this changes wouldn't take effort. Or if you use a mod, which does add a unit (for example crusaders, as the King Richards Crusade does), this won't the two mods would conflict because of changing the same file. But a modular mod is something like a module added to the vanilla files, preventing conflicts with other mods.

The modular modding is a little bit old fashioned, because normally mods are merged with different other mods. You can merge JARM with other mods, if you like, but personally I still use modular mods.

Oh, huh. Cool. Is there a detailed set of instructions for this somewhere? I've already activated it in the ini file, but the only default option I was aware of was the standard 'load a mod' screen. Is this related somehow to this 'WoC' I keep hearing about?
