Just Another Religion Mod (BtS / Modular)

I could never get the rapture art files for some reason, I thought I DLed them and then I couldn't find them anywhere within the folders I got. So I have no idea. If someone could post their units and buildings that would be fantastic.

I think I got them off of a svn sourceforge thing.
 
Also, I am willing to offer my services as a music person, to find the "dink" music or whatever you call them for the religions.

That is a very welcome offer. I will pm you, when I know, what is needed, if this is all right for you.
 
Alright, in that case I am going to redownload this mod to ensure that I have the latest version (although I'm pretty sure I do). Then what I am going to do is put together my suggested symbols and present them to you to see what you think.

I already have a few proposals in my mind before looking at it again, but I'll put together an entire proposal post for you in a couple of hours.
 
Actually other than the symbols and a few missionaries I think it looks very good. And I apparently did not have the latest files because some of the buildings look either new or extremely improved. I will put up an image with my proposed symbol changes but here are a few things I think we should do:

1) Freemasonry - you already know I think the missionary should be changed, and I'm working on getting that finished. I also think that the Shrine could be improved and it should probably be an actual building. I am not sure which one, but either an important lodge or other Freemason building. This is just an example but it's one that is right across the river from me, its the Freemason Monument to George Washington...

...we don't need to use that specifically. We could go with something else, but I was thinking of maybe making something that looks similar to what a Freemasonic Shrine would look like. I was thinking of maybe using your own Fort Knox building with the Great Lighthouse on top and then reskinned so it flows together. Not sure, but I think it needs something slightly better.

2) Shamanism - I like the look of this one, although I think the missionary could be changed.

3) Asen/Aesir - potentially a name change, but that isn't entirely important. I think the missionary should look different and I already have something in mind for this.

4) Druid - I like this one too, I think the symbol and missionary could use an upgrade though.

5) Olympic Pantheon - I don't really see much wrong with this one at all... other than the symbol...

6) Amun Ra - symbol

7) Shinto - I could make the missionary look slightly more unique, but this one seems perfect to me.

8) Toltec - I would like to suggest a name change, a symbol change, and a change to the missionary since it looks exactly like the current mesoamerican Great Prophet that is floating around. Fortunately I have good graphics for this change so it should be fine.

9) Voodoo - this one is great, the only problem I have is that the missionary looks just like the African Great Prophet I have, so I am going to have to change one of them. But since the missionary fits voodoo pretty well I think I'll have to change my GP.

10) Zoroastrianism - I am not sure if he is still working on it or not, but I think achilleszero mentioned that he could make a Zoroastrian missionary. If he can't I'll take a stab at it to try and get something a bit more unique going for us on this one.

So those are my preliminary ideas. I know you mentioned before that you liked the symbols you had, and that it was difficult to edit the gamefont file. But I think the symbols I will suggest are a bit more polished than the ones you are currently using, and even if you don't like them I will personally use them, so maybe we should at least package both of them together. You'll see my symbol proposal soon.
 
Alright, well after a bit of looking I put together my symbol-switch proposal. The FIRST COLUMN (from the left) has the current symbols of the mod. The second column has my proposed changes, Voodoo is the same. The third and fourth columns have other buttons/symbols I considered to be pretty good too. This way we can all take a look at them in comparison. I think the ones I chose have a look similar to the vanilla religion buttons and symbols and fit well with the original religions.
 
And here are a few missionary replacement ideas I have. There are a few I am a bit iffy about but I figured I'd post them to see what you think. These are all taken from the (now dead apparently) rapture mod.

Of course I do intend on editing these quite a bit to make them look better.
 
A question for you Capo (legitimate in my mind because I'm still amazed at the speed at which you can churn new stuffs). Do you intend to finish this quickly ?

Just asking that because I'd like to convert JARM to RevDcm/Woc format, so if everything is going to take an overhaul in the next week or so, might as well wait a bit :)

Don't expect the new version within a week or something like this. There is much work to do, creating several new buildings and so on.

About "hidden plans". I usually dislike making promises and anouncements before I even have all the artwork I will need for the next version. Especially when I don't even know, if I will be able and have the time to create all needed buildings all on my own. Of course I do have plans for my mod, but I don't want to anounce details or a release date until I have a better overview.

But before converting JARM into anything, you should be aware who you should give proper credits.

Did you ever check the thread about the Diplomacy mod? I'm still amazed by how quick Capo can churn out new stuffs :p

I think JAT and I have two different styles of modding, which is probably going to be pretty interesting to see play out. He seems to like to play things close to his chest while I am a bit more open with this stuff. I can adapt to that.

As far as when this will be ready; I doubt it will be finished within the next week or two, although I am usually optimistic about it. We're still discussing the changes that will be made although in general the changes won't be that big. It looks like we won't be making many changes to the base religions and the majority of the time spent on this will be the new religions. Although there is still a bit of work left to be done, so we'll see.

I am not planing to use any buildings allready released somewhere else. The exception would be, if I find someone willing to create a new building or two specifically for JARM. So I don't expect any conflicts with Cultual Citystyles. However I am hoping you will allow me to steal a texture or two from CC.

Capo is willing to provide new missionaries, but they aren't released yet anywhere else. So I don't expect conflicts there with any existing mods.

No. Which mod is it? Allthough I really like the icon I am currently using, but new ideas do never hurt.

@Capo: It is not about playing my cards close to my chest. I give you an example: I have been working on a model of the SIS HQ in London (also know as Legoland) a while ago. I had the model nearly finished, I haven't been thinking I would really be able to create this model, but I was, and I also was mazed how little polygones I did use for it... When I suddenly realised that I can't find anything useable in the internet to create a texture for my model, a problem I have never even thought of before. Therefore I was quite happy, that I didn't anounced in the forum, that I am going to create this building, because in the end, I wasn't able.

That's why I don't want to make anounces, what new contents JARM are going to have and when it will be released, because I don't know what problems will occure: A building I can't realise, a problem or a bug which has to be solved first, or perhaps too little time because of real life. Or perhaps after adding two new religion I am too much borred about creating new building, that I will release the new version with only two new religion instead of four. I don't want to make anouncements I am not sure about.
 
It's in the MesoAmerica mod. Check the Assets/res/Fonts folder.

And I'm not the right person to ask permission for use of textures. Those used in CC are from artists, not a mere xml-modder like me. ;)
 
Well, as a quick response to what JAT said; I understand that because I have had it happen to me before. But I also find that if you present what you are doing the person who could actually help you may stumble across your post and can either fix what you have done or improve upon it. So in my personal opinion it is better to disappoint people and yourself if it means you might get a better idea than never knowing at all. But to each his own.

As far as asking permission for textures and anything else really; it is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. :goodjob:

Anyway, I like to talk about what is going on, but since I don't want to step on anyone's toes I'll just ask this. Does anyone know where I can get a good list of Masonic buildings world-wide? I live in Washington DC so I don't need any from that region, but if anyone knows of some cool Masonic buildings let me or JAT know about them please.

Oh yeah, I have no experience making GP units and I was discussing with JAT the issue posed by the Vodoo missionary in that it is used in many popular mods as an African Great Prophet. We agreed that the model is better as a Voodoo missionary/priest than it is as an African Great Prophet (especially considering it has more of a Caribbean look, at least in the head than an African one) my first idea was to use the Nigerian Missionary from the Rapture mod as the model for a new African Great Prophet. Could anyone reading this help us out with that?
