KA01B - A Simple Deity Space Race - PtW Roster

Great cynical move eliminating the French to reduce tech costs. :goodjob:

As a final subtlety, we could try to build the SS party lounge on the very turn we discover the Laser, rather than on the next turn with the GL. Provided we make sure that a city preceding the pre-build city on the priority list completes something that interturn, and then scroll ahead to the pre-build city, I think this would be possible.

Well, I think that reducing the number of civs in the game only reduces the costs when at least one civ already has the technoogy. Seeing as we had techs to swap rather than trying a straight buy, I think the effect was minimal. But they were insisting on sending guerrilas wandering through our territory. ;)

I do have a pre-build under-way. I think its a Palace in Valencia which has about 17 turns to go, but will have more than enough shields for the party lounge. Can't we use the 'big picture' on discovery of the Laser to go to the domestic advisor and scroll to the city, rather than having another build complete? (JUst makes things a bit simpler). :)

Ah, yes--I've never used the big-picture trick, but I assume that would work.

Yes, you're up. No need to hurry, given the pace at which this whole game has been played. ;)

pre-turn
Everything looks good. Japan has some money, let's get some:
Sell Japan Synth Fibers for 558g and 202gpt.
Sell Iroq Synth Fibers for 24g and 42gpt.
Press enter.

Stasis Chamber completes.
Exterior Casing completes.

Nothing to do really, No Nuclear Power around yet.

Renew the Silk deal with Japan.

turn 2 - 1410AD
Rush a Lib, hire some more scientists.
Move slider back: Nucl. Power next turn.

IT

Laser (ok, I chickened out..;)) due in 6.

turn 4 - 1420AD
Zzzz

IT
The Ottos want Nuclear Power for their WM... Hmm, lemme think,... no!

turn 5 - 1425AD
ICBM completes.

turn 6 - 1430AD
Countdown: 3 turns to Laser.

turn 7 - 1435AD

We managed to launch at exactly the same date as the other team! Well done everybody. :goodjob:
Any ideas on why we are still a long way from the target: 1275AD?

Here are some more pictures:

Well, the other team has been analysing things a lot more - maybe have a read of that? (They're also suggesting a Cult 20k or Culture 100k next).

I think it was the war that stuffed us. Tech rate slowed right down.

Interestingly, now that the game is over, I "checked" some stuff. Ottomans were certainly not going hard-out in the research stakes!

I don't think they followed the same strat as we did. All the more surprising that we came out on exactly the same date! :)

I'd be up for a 100k game, it would certainly benefit my current cotm quest. :D

1440 isn't too shabby. :)
Wish I could have played more. Maybe for the next game I'll have more time.

I like 100K's. What's the best combination of traits for 100K? Commercial and religious? Scientific and Militaristic? :hmm:

Remarkable. That would be hard to do on purpose. Well done to all. :goodjob:

1. We were too passive in accepting as permanent the original locations of our capital and our FP, though both were good sites when chosen. Of four theoretically possible productive city rings, two around the capital and two around the FP, we had only the equivalent of two. Too many of our second-ring sites were underwater. ;)

2. This is just a speculation, but possibly we should have conquered our whole continent, ending up with at least a hundred more specialists than in the actual game, and relied on the other continent (after lavish gifting) for tech help. Or if not that, perhaps we should have at least conquered enough territory early enough to give us room for four full rings. In games with a peaceful victory as the goal, the characteristic error is always not fighting enough wars.

Congrats to your team. I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw your launch date. I haven't looked at your Age change dates, but we lost almost half our time in the Middle Ages.

Not sure how much this would have helped. When I looked at Kemal's game he
had 49 cities to our 79 cities and he still out researched our team while researching most of the Modern Age techs himself.

It wouldn't have helped in the sense of putting us on the same road to a quick launch that Kemal used, as you say. It might have been a different way of exploiting a fact his game seems to establish--that not much reliance should be placed on the tech contributions of rival civs.

Now that we are past one holiday and the SGOTM05, GOTM37 and COTM07 kickoffs I just setup a new thread for our 100K attempt. Please check in there and we need to decide which GOTM to replay.
