BREAKING NEWS :

13/09/05 : Hawklord is defeated by Loulong for third position and, more important, Portuga concedes in front of Misift Travel who wins the contest !

27/06/05 : Loulong is defeated by Portuga who goes to the finals. The last round will start ASAP !
23/06/05 : Hawklord concedes to Misfit Travel in the first semi-final. Misfit goes to final and will have silver or gold medal. Hawlord remains for the third place contest.
28/05/05 : Misfit Travels defeats El Tigre which means all opponents for the third round are now known and the semi-finals can start right away (albeit not until sunday for me... but Hawklord and Misfit can start immediately).
08/05/05 : von Clausewitz concedes to Portuga who is qualified for the next round.
11/04/05 : Von Clausewitz is taking over for RJ in the second round. His bitter fight in round one was recognized !
04/04/05 : Fab-Blaker-Boy concedes in the second round to Hawklord. Hawklord is then the first to enter the third round, among the "wonderful 4" which means a good chance to get at least one medal !

Second round is now full so we can start the games !
24/03/05 : Rcoutme has informed us he forfeits so I go to second round too. Only one game left and we can start the long-awaited second round !

13/03/05 : lietkynes retires in front of Portuga who goes to the second round.

5/03/05 : Gnarfflinger concedes. Hawklord goes to second round !
27/02/05 : Semental concedes in front of Misfit-Travel (albeit they keep on playing for sportsmanship (:goodjob: ). Misfit_Travel goes to second round.
26/02/05 : first defeat Viper beats King Arthur and goes to second round.
12/02/05 : Biq file sent and published (CFC) so now we are ready to roll ! Games of the first round can start whenever you want !
12/02/05 : rules sent and published (CFC)
12/02/05 : Pooling and pairing done !

11/02/05 Thanks to all : we have a full-house of 16 players / 4 rounds !

The contest :

16 players play the WWII Pacific as a PBEM. In order to have balanced results, they will play two games at the same time, 1 as Japan, one as all the Allies (but as 4 civs).
If one player wins both games he is declared the winner. If both won one game, VP totals of both games are added to decide who the winner is.

Players who sign in will have to follow a strict set of rules (nothing really new though) and 1 moderator/judge/referee will be available for each game.

The contest will last 4 rounds (16 players, then 8 players then 4 then 2). The first three players will be considered gold, silver and bronze medal winners.

Considering this scenario is short (and is usually won before the turns are over anyway) and since there are two players only in each PBEM, each round could be over within a month.

Happy CFC PBEM community contest !

RULES

"Kamikaze" CFC WWII Pacific PBEM contest:

SET OF RULES :

Procedures : you accept to follow those rules and to accept the consequences were you to fail following them.

1/ the PBEM is based on a modified biq version called "KamikazeContest.biq" that you will use for every game you play during this contest,
especially if you start the game. Modifying the biq is a "no-no".
Be careful, Japan plays first in this version.

2/ You must warn in advance of any possible delays, promise to answer any query within 3 days (72 hours), to have a valid e-mail address
you check at least once per day and altogether to do the best you can to make the 2 games you will be involved in at the same time go fast.

3/ You must obey the following rules during the gameplay :

- no city razing
- no weird exchange of cities among allies (ie the Chinese cannot give a city to the US).
- accept the VP count needed for victory has been increased to 50,000.
- when you play the game as the Allies you will play the four of them as separate civs.
- no auto-move for units.

If you don't abide by these rules you can suffer a penalty (including possible eviction).

Although they would have been more accurate historically speaking, rules such as limit paradrop or use of airports or stack limitations don't
need to be respected as they cannot be enforced. Anyway this is about competitionship, not about historical accuracy (for that ToS is probably
better but is not used here as it would require donwload and training by most players).

4/ Cheating :
Cheating is of course a "no-no" meaning elimination from the contest which makes your opponent the winner whatever your both scores.
That means no reloading, no editing, not looking at the set up of troops of the other, etc...
In case of doubt (from the other player or the admin) a judge can decide to analyze the saves.
If cheating is proved, results can range from VP penalty (up to the judges) to exclusion.
Reloading, double goldmine exploit, and editing the files (mere exemples) = exclusion.

5/ Judges/referees

There are judges/referees you can refer to in case of doubt, question, etc... If one of them is also a player you must of course ask another
referee.
You must choose a referee before start-up and send him your paswords ASAP (admin and each player's passwords). If passwords don't work, the games
and results will be considered as invalid.
You must keep all your saves and provide them to the judge if he demands any or all of them. You can also send one directly if you fear someone
is wrong.

6/ You must play two games at the same time, one as the Allies, the other as Japan. The players are above the other in the pairs. The game
where the player on top plays Japan will be called "game1", and the other "game2".
If you win both games, you are the winner of the round (in your pool), if you win one, then we will add the VPs of both games to decide of the winner.
To identify the games, they will be name "Round#Pool#Pair#Game#). So for instance the first pair is Aeon221 and Fab-Blaker-Boy. They are the first pair of the
first pool and Aeon is the player mentionned in first. Their game is in the first round. Therefore the game he will start as Japan
will be called "r1p1p1game1". Not very lyric but pretty informative !

7/ Forfeiting :

It is possible to do so by sending a mail to both the other player and the referee of the game.
This, however, is not the aim of this contest and can be really frustrating for the other player. So be considerate. Besides a player who
forfeits in one game is considerd as the loser of both games and of the round altogether, whatever his results are in the other game.
On the other hand it is much more polite to forfeit than to drop.

8/ The admins keep the rights to change, add existing or new rules if the need occurs.

File :

here is the biq to use for each challenge (you only need it for the game you start as Japan).
It was sent to each and every one of you but just in case...
It will be the same file for all 4 rounds.

Count me in as a player! Playing time: GMT+1, 18:00-24:00

What are the responsibilities of a judge? Maybe I can do that, too.

I'm interested as long as you don't mind a newbee to PBEMs. I'm on GMT -8, playing times very but I'd say 7:00-8:00 or so in the mornings, 5:00-10:00 on afternoons/evenings (but it really varies, sometimes I may play a bit earlier or later.)

Edit: Oh, I forgot my e-mail! It's viper275@gmail.com

I'll go for it.

This sounds too intriguing to pass up! :D

My schedule's a bit tight this month though, so if a fast pace is in order I may have to sit this one out. How many turns total is WWII Pacific?

EDIT: spelling.........

Hmm I won't play, but I'll watch.

If this one works out, I have further plans for the pbem community. Let's wait and see!

Actually, the game should end by around turn 15 maximum if Japan plays well and if VP limit is left at 40K. But ideally, Japan can win aroun turn 10 or 11 may be even turn 9. :)

This is not a sign up. But I wish Loulong can pull this baby off!

If there is anything I can help, please let me know.

Ok...I'll play...but don't expect fast turn-arounds...

6 players already ! That's nice !

The VP count could be increased to 50,000 VPs to give more balance to the game but it would mostly make the game longer. And since the two players will play both sides at the same time there is already balance since both results will be used to calculate the winner of each pool.

@Akots : I know you are not so crazy about that scenario. Too bad as it would have been nice ! Thanks for the kind words.
And sure I think you could be a real fine judge/referee (not much work normally, except if troubles arise) and you could as well pick up the pools (I am part of the contest so I would prefer someone else to randomly choose them).

@ all : playing times are not too much of a problem since there will be two players in each pool (=2 PBEMs). The game can be easily over before turn 15. With a maximum of 50 turns anyway.
When pools are selected, players can arrange playing times between themeselves so it is possible they can make 3 turns a day during week-ends or just one depending on their free time, time zones, etc...

What artificial rules are we adding?
Examples:
1. No city razing or abandoning.
2. No gifting cities that the other could not take as a conquest (i.e. has boots on the ground ready to occupy)

 I'll probably get spanked, but I'll play.

Time: GMT -5; Playing time: GMT 00:00 - 6:00

OK, I can do the random pairing or ranking-based pairing (weakest versus strongest). Once there are all 8 players.

Are you going to play the original scenario or some modified version? With AP or without? And what difficulty? IMO, city trading and abandoning must be banned in this game. But it is a very personal opinion.

If you're short, then I could use a humility lesson...

I think there's still one spot open. If it's so, I'll play too.

I played this conquest only once, as the comonwealth, and I completly screwed up the game for the allies
