Kamikaze CFC Contest !

Oops, we are 10.

I think now is worth waiting for 6 more in case so we can have another full round.

That means : a real contest !

Apart from Akots, anybody else volunteer to be a judge/referee ?

About the rules, people can voice their opinions but I am pretty confident nobody will object to the

- no city razing rule

About the no city exchange albeit I did it recently in ToS PBEM I believe it indeed should not be done but it is open for discussion.

For Accelerated Production I think it should be on or the US won't do anything but this is also open for discussion.

For the level, since there are no AI and levels can be quite different I think monarch could be the standard. Players could arrange the level they want between themselves but if we are to have a ranking system then everybody must use the same one.

Since it is filling quite fast actually, players who signed it should voice their opinions ASAP ! Thank you !

Wow, 16 participants? Bring it! :ninja: :)

If we time this right, Lou, we could end up having our own version of March Madness to coincide with the NCAA Basketball tournament. :D Of course, ours would take a bit longer.............

So when the allies are up, is it one faction for the whole turn or just one guy take the four turns in a row?

And one more question--Will there be spoiler threads for this for lurkers or otehr players?

Hey guys! I wanna play too ;p

This is scary, because I know I am in games with at least half of you haha

LL, you should see about getting a front page ad for this! That might generate more interest, and def more attention!

EMAIL: eeline@thehill.org

TZ: East Coast (any time between 8 in the morning and 11 at night)

Familiarity with scenario: I played it once... ;p

Caveat: I have exams in about 2.5 weeks, so dont expect me to have the best of turnarounds as they get closer. Afterwards... I should be back up to my standard of a couple of hours.

Good luck everbody!

PS: do we have to take this real seriouslike?

I vote for the following:

No city razing.
No gifting cities amongst allies.
AP would be OK
We will be playing an adapted BIQ where Japan goes first? If not, is there a "no conscripting" rule on turn 1 against the Allies?

Hey, LouLong -

You know I'm happy to play - again if you don't mind a NEWBEE.

Name: Blake
Location: Cincinnati, OH
E-MAIL: (I believe you have, but can provide)
Time: EST (USA)
Preference: Put me wherever you want a newbee.

Thanks... I'm eager to give it a shot.

Mucho thanks!

Blake

Hey -

Are there ever any MESOPOTAMIA PBEMs? I like the scenario in the solo-version... so it might be cool to see how it would be with REAL people.

Just a question.

Blake

Sorry I was busy the last 2 days.

Anyway we still need 2 players only to have 4 rounds ! Hope they fill in quickly (and I haven' forgotten to list anyone).

@ Fab-Blaker Boy : there are 3 that I know of (AoW, Ramses and 1 started by kingstuart) but 1/ it is not really the "chronological" place to talk about that one. 2/ they are not very popular as they are long (8 players) and slow.

LouLong:

Here is my input on game parameters:

1) No city razing

2) No city trading
- as we are playing in the game that it happened, I find it particularly bogus that China gets wiped out and exports its government to Fiji.

3) Raise VP limit to 50K
- allows for possibility of more divergent Japanese and Allied strategies rather than the traditional "run-for-VP-locations" version
- virtually impossible for Allies to win against a good Japanese player

4) Use Eric_A's TOS scenarios (either a fixed version 3.0 or the v4.0)
- its new, so its a more level playing field for most players (ie we all don't have experience with it, so you'll see lots of tactics getting developed on the fly)
- it plays better than Firaxis' WWII in the Pacific

If you're willing to go out on a limb, Eric_A's concept of invisible submarines (TOS v4.0) certainly makes the Japanese players time far more difficult in the early going.

Good luck with this, and thanks for organizing it.

My suggestions:

- no city razing
- no city trading; or only if a ground unit is standing next to the city
- no Accelerated Production
- level: Monarch

4) Use Eric_A's TOS scenarios (either a fixed version 3.0 or the v4.0)

I'd like to support that! If you don't want to force all contestants to
download the scenario, maybe you could let each team decide which version
they want to play.

If you're willing to go out on a limb, Eric_A's concept of invisible submarines (TOS v4.0) certainly makes the Japanese players time far more difficult in the early going.
The horror... the horror! At night, I can still hear the screams of
several thousand Japanaese soldiers drowning in the Pacific from the TOS
PBEM! ;) Seriously, invisible submarines are a great addition to any WW2
Pacific scenario.

My thoughts on rules:

1. No razing. You can't replace cities in this conquest, so if too much is burnt, you can't have domination victories.
2. No trading cities, because of what Misfit_travel said.
3. Raise VP limit to 50,000. Too easy to win as Japan otherwise.
4. No accelerated production.
5. Level? I don't think it matters that much, but Monarch is fine.

Neutral on TOS. It's an extra download for the player, but it would give more balance in the actual scenario. People may be more or less experienced with the scenario or TOS (for example, I've played the original several times and never tried TOS, but some other people probably played it many times and not the original game much. If I was to lean one way, though, it would depend on the team players. My guess is that a few have played TOS a lot and the rest haven't played it, which would make me want the regular one because the few that have played it a lot would have an advantage.)

I am afriad ToS is not an option here, simply because we cannot expect everybody to have downloaded it and to have experience with it, whereas the Firaxis conquest is pretty standard. So for this time at least, we will stay with the Firaxis one (I would have needed to state it in the title as well).

What about a max. limit on number of air units in cities / airfields?

Any limits on air transport of units?

These are two common "cheats" that could be used to distort game / historical reality.

I'd suggest that we limit air units to a max of 5 per city / airfield, and that only paratroopers can use airlift transportation.

Misfit

What is to stop me from, say, building five airfields right next to one another?

That seems like too much ruling for it to be worth doing.

Is TOS really that good? I normally dont look too hard at the modern scenarios... but I am leaning toward checking it out now!

Haha, in addition to the fifty billion other things I am signed up for ;p

I vote for the vp limit raised to 50,000, to at least give the Allies a smidgeon of a chance against a good Japanese player (even then, it is only a smidgeon.)
I know it is historically accurate, but the "airlift paratroopers only" that most people seem to want really only makes the Allie's role that much harder (like they really need the extra difficulty :crazyeye: )

I wouldn't mind playing the TOS Mod if my individual opponents want to, but since I've never played it, I would want my opponent to not be that familiar with it also...
