Finally got my own avitar, but can't find something suitable. Where can I look?

Oh, I think Winnie the Pooh is perfectly suitable.

To add something more helpful. Make a search at google for whatever you have in mind, and select the images pane to see all the pictures that fits the search. Then use some photo program to scale the picture into 60x60 pixels.

I take it you want a somehow civ related avatar?

Or just anything?

Look around in newgroups for the topic, usually they are full of picture. And google is really good for finding pics.

What is the deal with the avatar pics? I was away for about a year, and that is a change that is happened.. I see references, but Could someone enlighten me?

Avatar requirements are:

Miminum of 300 posts
maximum size: 65x65 pixels, 20% smaller than poly
file size: less than 4K bytes, 40% of poly
file type: gif, jpg


So if you have a bigger avator on poly, you either have to reduce it on civfan. Or use the reduced civfan size on poly.

1. First decide on a theme, commonly used themes:
A. correspond to alias, ala Grey Fox
B. correspond to player, ala Moonsinger
C. generic civ unit, ala cracker
D. generic nonciv image, ala, hurricane, pterrok
E. Other "neat image",ala RufRydyr, Ribannah, Yndy

2. Search for non copyrighted images

3. Save favorite images found, but remember you have a very vary small size to work with.

Oh, one more thing to consider in creating your avatar: some users like to add a holiday layer to their avatar. Common added layers are Santa hats at Christmas or broomsticks at halloween, or surfboard at Spring Break. If this kind of seasonal change appeals to you be sure to allow enough file size room and image size room for the seasonal images.

Just think about what you like, and then go looking for an image to match it.

I scanned an image from an issue of my favorite comic book (Girl Genius) to get my avatar. I knew what I wanted, but there was nothing suitable online.

Avatars can come from anywhere.

my first custom avatar I edited myself off a picture I saw on a website (brotherhood of steel). My current one was donated by a very generous forum member.

Pick one that suits your style, RMSharpe's represents his freedom loving personality. Sultan Bhargash has...a sultan I think. Switch has his beause he's an old sunuva...hey hey!

Yeah. For last Christmas -

AoA added a santa hat to his old avatar
Bamspeedy added a santa hat to the hwatcha
Cracker had a santa avatar on his avatar
Chieftess redid the settler avatar completely
cgannon64 added a santa hat
Gonzo had a wreath and santa hat on his AT-ST

...and more.
