Watching the First Look: Kongo video I found something that really bugs me up. At the end of the video the narrator says:

Kongo "can grow city in the middle of rainforest"

and later:

"By establishing large midgame cities in the rainforst or wood Kongo can push any victory type"

What mechanics makes Kongo able to build large cities in the rainforest? Kongo's UU does not have movement penalty while crossing tiles with woods or rainforest, but that feature do not affects the way that city grows. Could there be another Kongo's special ability related to rainforest that wasn't revealed yet?

The Mbanza unique district, apart from that great works give them extra food

You may be right, maybe it's just it. But I find it strange that the narrator put emphassis on Kongo's ability of building cities in the rainforest, instead of just food boost that gives them large population growth.

There was another bonus that wasn't revealed in the First Look video (England gets free unit when settle on others continets). I was thinking if it could be the case with Kongo.

People have speculated that the Mbanza is related to rainforests in a way not described in the video... it gets bonuses for rainforest adjacency or has to be built on a forest/rainforest or something like that.

Maybe it's a subject of balance, so they decided not to put it in the video. Similarly to England bonus unit.

It could very well be a bonus they didn't describe in the video. We won't find out for a while.

If the Mbanza gives extra food and does not destroy the rain forest because it can be build on top of it, it will yield 4 food? awesome!

Normally districts destroy features underneath. Although it looks like in press preview build there was a bug and they didn't.

Like others have said, I think that the Mbanza either doesn't remove woods/rainforest or has an adjacency bonus for woods/rainforest. I think it is the first case, because of the following image with Mbanzas on rainforest tiles:

Those Mbanzas are definetley INSIDE the rainforests in that screenshot. It might be another one of those missed details again, like Victoria's "free unit when you settle on a foreign continent".

This means that you can settle and grow cities in a rainforest without restrictions to housing.

That screenshot looks quite amazing!

i think they the district doesn't remove rainforests so perhaps more food is retained from the tile. And the Mbanza is unlocked earlier than the neighborhood (or whatever the other district is) to allow early access to more housing for the population. The extra food from great works of art will help push the population as well. There may be other bonuses the Mbanza gives as well perhaps (maybe even more food)

Looking at this screenshot, they definitely don't need to be built on/next to rainforest, so that only leaves a potential bonus next to rainforest, possibly more likely since the Mbanza model seems to actually incorporate a bit of rainforest when it's near one.

Pete Murray did say on reddit that Kongo 'can into space'. Kongo could have great science bonuses, perhaps doubled bonuses from jungle+district tiles. This would be unlike Brazil who gets a better adjacency bonus from jungle but sometimes has to pick which jungle tiles to sacrifice for good district placement.

I think it's more about where Kongo is getting their food from. Other threads have already discusses that woods and jungle seem to be great tiles while unimproved. Some have already gone so far as questioning why you would even cut them down. They also provide adjacency bonuses.

However, the biggest source of increase to food output seems to come from farms, even later in the game when it's said that less are required; Less are required because they have increased output. To build farms in the above terrain you need to chop them both down.

Kongo is able to produce food straight from their districts (theater and neighborhood, specifically) and so wouldn't really need to cut down jungle and forests in order to build farms and could utilize lumber mills and tile adjacency bonuses without the fear of having unimproved land.

Great screenshot, I concur. Kongo is going to have some great AARs with some wonderful screenshots.

I remember the great AARs from cIV, back in the day. I look forward to some great ones in Civ VI.

Does anyone know or have a good guess as to what those pink trees are in the screenshot? I checked Arioch's site and didn't see it as a resource yet.
