KoS4 - Something more casual (?)

I suggested burning the last barb city because I was worried about how close we are to complete economic collapse. But if everyone else feels that we will be able to take the extra strain I would say keep it too.

Because of that I think we should go for currency by the fastest route possible. Is there any chance of part teching currency and then trading lit for it?

That sounds like a good option, except Pacal and Joao won't trade Currency and MM is not teching it... I'm really unsure about tech here. Unless we find a solid consensus, I suppose I go PH-COL after all?

I think we should be able to steal priesthood and someone else is bound to tech Currency sooner or later. I would be very surprised if we end up with an opportunity to tech to CoL before another AI is willing to trade for Currency. So I think we should put our lousy 1bpt into currency, build a spy to steal Priesthood from someone, and cross our fingers.

Building a spy to steal such a cheap tech is a waste (better to do more of kossin's idea of redundant Epic building). Again, we are going to be running at 0% for a while so the real tech decision can wait...I agree that probably someone else will tech currency and we can trade CoL for it.

Could we consider granaries over monuments in Leptis and Chinook? Hammy is still sending missionaries our way...yes I know with Charismatic they aren't wasted but with the resources we control the happy isn't needed anytime soon either.

Well it wouldn't be a one off event. I imagine that we would also use it to steal some tech from Mansa. I haven't looked at the save recently but I seem to remember thinking that we were close to having enough to steal MC.

However, I had forgotten that we would have to pay unit maintenance for the spy, so maybe it isn't worth it after all.

Started playing...

I'm putting spare beakers into Currency, except for a 1t dip in Hunting for ivory, while waiting on a set of Lit trades.
Took the barb city.
I'm doing more infra building and growth than grabbing every last coin. I think it's better long term.

Question: how much do we care about WFYABTA? I would be inclined to trade Lit for all of Sailing, Mono, PH and Medi. We really have no research power for the foreseeable future.
I just realized that we've scouted Ham's territory. He's stuck with 6 tight cities. That's peace-vassal stuff, if we get him to good diplo. I'm for Judaism now as a consequence (also because we can have OR any turn now).

OK with making those trades. Also, I'm the one who has been banging the Jewish drum for a while so I'm happy with converting.

hmmm, maybe I should consider better metaphors...

I third trading for everything. Also any resource for gpt that can be pulled off should be done as well, every little bit helps.

I'm not so sure about going for Judaism. I don't think there is any point in buttering up Hammy before he is vassalable. I think the main advantage would be to get OR running for infrastructure builds, but I cant remember how well spread the religion is.
Certainly don't do it if it means slowing down getting the GLib

Finally, I'm going away for a bit more than a week starting tomorrow and don't expect to come in contact with any computers, so I'm going to have to ask for permanent skip until I check back in again. I'll be cheering from abroad!

^^

There's +6 to gain from religion from Hammurabi, that takes a while to build up.

The one thing I'm not certain is whether an AI will voluntary capitulate if you have other vassals they don't like...? If so we'd have to let Hammurabi voluntarily capitulate before taking Nappy/Zara - which means letting go of the choke at some point.

Going to try it in worldbuilder (random scenario).

EDIT: Friendly Hammy was willing to peace-vassal despite me having Napoleon and Zara as vassals whom he was Cautious to.

I don't believe it's relevant. Should be only related to diplo points, power rating and some land target comparison. Other vassals could reduce the diplo, ofc. I could ask Silu to explain it. He did in our Short Quickie game, but I'm too stupid to understand his explanation.

Sorry, boys. I was planning to finish the set last night, but didn't find any time for Civ. Will do tonight.

I played about 10t so far, and nothing too exciting happened, except for completing GLib. :) And, continuing to bleed cash... I don't have any experience with extended chokes like this, so I'm not gonna dare disband any units or move them back out of Unit Supply zones. We should evaluate this together after my set, though.

Looking forward to it!
We shouldn't delete any units imo but maybe we can move a few within our culture for some time. This could allow the AI to make a few more workers (not that we lack any but we can always use more), improvements (further pillaging gold) and we'd save a bit on maintenance. This needs to be evaluated though as we don't want them to keep expanding.

Ok, played 15t total. This game is rough, man. :(
  • Made some trades. Seems a bit silly when you look at them, but we really can't research anything ATM. I put a few beakers into Currency while waiting on a PH trade, then switched to COL. MM teched MC and is 2t from Currency. He also has Feudalism already. Ham founded Confu, so that ship sailed. Don't really see how we can get COL in time to get any trade value out of it, but that's not why I'm going for it. Basically, we'll need to bulb Philo and turn that into everything else, I think.
  • Chokes: both of them are trying to break out a bit. I had to chase some settlers and workers around. Killed 4-5 of Nap's archers, including two that wandered towards Chinook. We have a cover axe sitting NW of the city for protection. They'll both eventually sneak a settler past us, I think. I had a lot of units around, but they can't be everywhere.
  • The SW peninsula is reasonably nice, though I guess we can't settle it for a while yet. Had a random barb axe show up at Leptis, which nearly gave me a heart attack, but our chariot won. Moved a 3-promo axe out to fogbust W of there.
  • Traded a resource for 2gpt to Pacal.
  • We adopted Judaism and went into OR now. Most of our cities have the religion, and we also hooked up ivory, so there's some room to grow in the main ones. Ham founded Confu, as I said, so he might try to go that way. He does have Judaism in all his cities, though.
Cities
Carthage - GLib, then NE. Grew it a bit, still has happy cap. Needs to get us a GS.
Utica - Built a library so we can potentially run scientists, now building a missionary (a bit silly). We should switch it to HE after, I think. Not sure where the HE will ultimately go, however.
Hadru - Nada. Stagnating and slowly putting hammers into Parthenon.
Hippo - took the Hadru corn to grow, so I can run a couple of scientists. Needs to grow further, IMHO.
Ker - needs to whip the LH and Lib soon. Will be an awesome city, but it'll take a bit of time.
Zhou - WB, then grow/whip infra.
Chinook - nice city soon enough. I think we should just grow it asap.
Leptis - still needs some infra. I worked wheat+farm for a while, but switched to gems 2t ago to stop the bleeding a bit (same in Ker). Not really sure what's better. My instinct is to always go food first, but we really need commerce here.

It's a good idea but finances will probably be solved before that can happen unfortunately :(
As it currently stands (-9 gpt), cottage and city growths will put us in the green in a few turns I'd say.
