Not at the start. But it does start to spiral out of control stacked with the factory later.
Rise of the Empire
The year 1868 marked one of, if not the, greatest discoveries in the history of Equine life. The Discovery of Steam (power) enabling ponies everywhere tobuy games for really cheap build improvements faster.
Inspired by the discovery of Steam (power) Princess Celestia issued a Royal Charter mandating the establishment of an Equestrian colony in Australia. Some ponies claimed that the colony was specifically being established to take control of the global supply of Vegemite sandwiches. Others didn't have much to say.
In a historic show of loyalty a pegasus of blue had arbitrated peace with the native peoples of the world and Equestria.
In the east Equestrian settlers had sighted the french Fort of Michilikanumanuma-ay. Which was impossible to pronounce since none of the settlers spoke fancy.
Meanwhile in Southeast Asia Survyman was super jealous of the Equestrians knowledge of Steam (power) and the constant network validation. They offered to trade Physics for access to Steam (power). After the trade was complete Equestria attempted to obtain the Khmer's map.
Flim Flam continued their tour across America. Doing handstands wherever they went. Aubuck Otto emerged in ponyville.
Under the immence pressure of Germany and Portugal hating them the Dutch collapsed in on themselves. I guess you could say the Dutch ain't much.

The captain of the ESS Canterlot had a dream but was abruptly woken to be informed that they had arrived in Australia. Where the colonists, completely unprotected, founding the settlement of Derby. Thereby officially founding the Equestrian Colonial Empire.
Princess Celestia decided that she would get that Empire a National Gallery, Empires love Nation Gallerys.
Near thunder bay the construction of the most holy of all improvements, a water mill had begun.
In the Indian Ocean the ESS Pony Voyager had run into an Persian Caravel. The two ships eyed each other warily.
The ESS Pony Voyager had come into contact with the Indians. Who offered to sell Equestria a map. For the bulk of the Equestrian treasury.
The National Gallery had been completed in Canterlot. Ponies from all over Equestria could come and see sculptures of enemies that Celestia had defeated and Mosaics of Celestia.

The ESS Pony Voyager continued on its journey passing near the Arabian peninsula. The colonists of Derby felt unsafe with the British colony so close by and thus lobbied Princess Celestia for military protection. She responded by stating that she supposed she could spare a regular for 80 
Meanwhile the Americans had taken on the Babylonians as a Vassal which introduced Equestria to one of the oldest civilization in the world.
The ESS Pony Voyager continued on its Trek passing the old Dutch colony of South Africa. The captains log stated that the colonists there had set up a sort of dystopian warrior clan society.
Meanwhile in the mainland ponies still could not figure out how to economy.
Isabella found the German very annoying and attempted to get the Equestrian to help the Spanish destroy the German. However the Equestrian didn't like that idea.
Despite not being involved in any war, military expansion continued in Equestria.
The soviets of Scandinavia came into contact with Equestria. Princess Celestia commented "Nice horns on your hat" This annoyed the Vikings. Meanwhile a plague began to spread throughout the world.
The ESS Pony Voyager had arrived off the coast of Mali Africa. The crew of the ESS Pony Voyager was entrusted with the single most important, classified, mission in the Equestrian nation. Securing someone's map without paying gold for it. Finally after over a century of searching the ESS Pony Voyager had succeeded in its mission. The mali agreed to trade nationalism for their map.
Equestria's life = Complete
With a map of the Earth secured Princess Celestia set her sights on making allies. She attempted to make an alliance with England but they required a few drinks first.
Celestia immediately ordered the boarder patrol to burn down the winery.
As soon as the alliance was signed, England decided to become a vassal of Russia. Nullifying the treaty.
As the plague continues to spread throughout the world the Equestrian government begins to take precautions. Libraries are closed down, bakeries are declared "too sad", and Military units are sent out to the country side to shot anyone who tries to leave any cities. It has been rumored that a small Exclave of troops has been sent into isolation to later reclaim the land in case the virus over takes it. Equestria has assured its citizens that "It is whats best for their glorious nation"
Many ponies find the restrictions to be too much. Most don't even believe the disease is communicable to ponies.
Ponies had found black pearls, an omen of things to come. Despite the skepticism of the populous the plague was indeed contractible by ponies. And they were beginning to die by the 1000's.
Equestria had discovered the secrets to assembly lines and that they could get rainbow model ts as long as they were black.
Dr. Lincoln attempted to sell Equestria a 'cure' for the plague in the form of Biology. Princess Celestia saw this as a ploy to profit from ponies suffering and rejected the offer.
The Khmer decided that the biggest issue in the world was that Equestria's religion was not organized enough.
In the Countryside Equestria's armed forces were being upgraded to Royal Guards to better protect and server the Equestrian Empire.

The Mexican-Equestrian War

As the plague continued to spread throughout the world tensions began building between Equestria and Mexico. The Equestrian government had long been looking for an excuse to expand its territory on the continent and blaming the plague on Mexicans gave them the perfect opportunity. Although most ponies could see the truth. Equestria was simply taking advantage of Mexico being weakened by the plague and being at war with America. A small amount of royal guards crossed the boarder into Mexico thus starting Equestria's first major armed conflict, the Mexican-Equestrian War.
The ESS CanTerlot was deployed to Mexico's pacific rim dropping off a small army. It was shortly thereafter engaged by a Mexican Galleon in what would come to be known as the Battle of the Two Galleons. The First battle of the war proved to be a Mexican victory.
Despite the loss at sea the Expeditionary force began its invasion of Coyuta. Despite taking relatively large losses the force was able to capture the city. Which was burned down to the ground citing: "Bad City Placement" The locals were not familiar with this strange concept.
During the Battle of Bad City Placement Equestrian units had secured the city of Calixhoof. Whose garrison of Galleons was no match for Equestria's ground forces.
Equestria's Expeditionary force headed north and began the Battle of Texoco which ended in a decisive Equestrian victory.
Meanwhile the garrison in the city of derby had requested, and been denied for a leap of absence citing being dead. The mayor expected them to be back to work by the end of the week.
Herobrine has completed a list of the richest people in the world. Celestia felt that not being people put Equestria at a distinct disadvantage.
The Mexican-Equestrian war seemed to be making a turn. After numerous Equestrian victories the Mexicans, under the leadership of Antonio de Padua María Severino López de Santa Anna y Pérez de Lebrón, had managed to recapture Texoco.
Princess Celestia, realized that Equestria did not have the pony power to hold territory that far south and thus ordered a counter strike into Texoco, in which Equestrian units were specifically given orders to destroy the city.
Counter Mexican units attacked driving the ponies out of the ruins but were too late in stopping them from protecting the bomb.
America decided to cancel its defensive pact with Equestria over the burning of Texoco.
Equestrian forces were able to route Mexican forces in the region but had taken huge casualties by this point forcing a retreat north.

As the harsh realities of war began to become apparent the Equestrian government realized that at this rate the Mexican could potentially
launch a counter offensive into the homeland. Therefore the Equestrian government was reorganized into the first galactic empire! into a Nationalistic government. Establishing the first Discord State that Equestria has had in over 1000 years.
It was Princess Celestia's hope that a more focused national goal, coupled with more state control, could put a quick end to the war.
Shortly following the Establishment of the Discord State Equestria was invited to the upcoming international congress. Additionally the plague had finally run its course allowing Equestria to return to a state of normalcy, of compulsory saluting of all Equestrian national flags.
Celestia decided that Equestria was vulnerable having no allies after America's landmark speech. Princess Celestia had decided to make an alliance with the other most hated nation in the world.
In Equestria the first ever National Draft had begun. Equestrian from all walks of life black, white, purple, yellow, blue, red, or green were being drafted into the Equestrian army to "Defend against Santa Anna's agression"
Stalin is the pope.
America realizing the error of their ways offered to sign a defensive pact with Equestria, in exchange for Equestrian silver.
A squad of Scandinavian troops was sighted vacationing in Baja California.
The congress of Melilla was commencing in which leaders from all over got together and demanded things from each other.

The decision ultimately did not pass but this prompted Princess Celestia to demand the city of Wichita. As well as supporting the Mexicans claims to New Orleans.
With the Multinational congress concluded Equestria began moving troops into the city of Ponyta.
Equestria had managed to somehow gain access to horses. Nopony knows how that happened.
