Land of the Rus

The war between Arabia and Russia was basicly a diplomatic one. Arabs merely wanted to prevent Russia from strenghtening their influence around Kazakstan. More pressing issue was the uprising of Tatars. The Tatarian capital Kazan was only couple hundred miles east from Moskva and the Tatars were feeling their power. They sent a reasonable army towards Moskva. The russian ruler, Vladimir II Monomakh, suspected that the Arabs might have provoked these hostilities by supporting the Tatars, but he couldn't confirm this.

However, the famous and fiered 2nd Novski Horsemen had returned to Moskva after the battle of Samarqand and they crushed the approaching Tatar horse archers together with the Royal Guard of Moskva.

The Royal Guard returned to Moskva as the 2nd Novski Horsemen advanced towards Kazan. Kazan was defended by two archer regiments, but they were no match for the quickly moving veterans. The 2nd Novski Horsemen poured over the plains and into the city killing everyone in sight easily overwhelming the defenders. Kazan had fallen and it was attached to Russia. The pride of Tatars proved to be costly for them.

Settlers from quickly growing Moskva traveled north to find new living space. A fur trading post named Vologda was founded.

What mod and difficulty are you playing and what have you done to Ragnar? Even when pleased, Vikings NEVER trade techs with anybody, least of all compass!

Regular RFC and monarch difficulty as shown in the first post. I was very surprised to see them trading Compass, but Ragnar is very pleased with me. They'll soon become friendly, I had +3 from civics, +1 resources, +4 trade relations, +the other basic stuff. They later even traded Civil Service to me.:D Though I have to disagree about them never trading techs, they are one of the best tech trading partners if treated properly.

The newly crowned King of Russia Alexander Nevsky knew that the power of a nation laid in the technological advancements. Since the russian scholars and inventions were backward compared to other surrounding nations, he decided to train spies that could investige and steal these new invetions that other nations had. These large investment payed off as a great spy, Mata Hari, was trained in Moskva.

Meanwhile rumours of a new rising and technologically advanced nation of Turkey spread to Moskva. Mata Hari was sent to study these turkish peoples and to form a contact with them.

Civ4ScreenShot0077-1.jpg
Civ4ScreenShot0078-1.jpg

The Turks proved to be very advanced indeed and Mata Hari was given direct orders from Alexander Nevsky himself to learn and steal everything possible from them. In the Turkish court she met ambassidors from a distant western African nation of Mali and they agreed to share their knowlegde with the Russians.

Alexander Nevsky also ordered the construction of a naval port, Rostov-na-Danu, on the shores of the Black Sea to trade with the new Turkish nation.

Mata Hari's mingled with the Turkish scholars, who were eager to show her around. In the dark nights she sneaked out from the bedrooms and copied every meaningful piece of information she could find. The russian nation benefitted greatly from her actions as the information she found helped the scholars to unlock the secrets of Engineering, Gunpowder and Banking.

New technologies were also traded with other nations and Russia became the most advanced nation in the world during the next centuries. Though Alexander Nevsky had already passed away the legacy he left behind was magnificent. The backward nation of Russia was center of knowledge when his heir, Vasili III, was crowned as King of Russia in 1505AD.

Alexander Nevsky also began the creation of a national stadium network for horse races.

In 1480AD diplomatic contacts were also formed with the barbaric Mongol nation.

That would be the smartest thing to do, if I was aiming at the UHVs solely. But since I am recreating the USSR, I don't really need those cities. Although, I might just take them anyways. So it remains to be seen.:)

Parthenon and Hagia Sofia might come in handy though.

Russia's recent developments and growing power led to the vassalization of Mali in 1535AD as Russia seek to strenghten her influence overseas. The arrangement benefitted both participants Russia got her hands on the resources of Mali. In return Russia promised to defend the militaristically weak Malinese peoples.

During that same year the new leader of Russia Ivan IV completed his secondary palace in the newly colonized areas of Siberia.

The rapid colonization of Siberia and the contiuously growing population led to the implementation of a new code of laws and during this reformation the Tsardom of Russia was founded in 1547AD and Ivan IV, also known as Ivan the Terrible due to the cruelty he showed against the conquered Tatar peoples, was crowned the first Tsar of Russia.

Russia's technological advancements continued to rely heavily on spying the Ottomans.

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

In 1570AD Russian settlers established a colony called Ust-Kut on the shores of the deep Baikal Lake. News of this eastern outpost spread further to east and soon ambassidors from Japan arrived to meet these settlers. However, the Japanese had been vassalized by the powerful Chinese Empire, so Russia saw no good oppurtunities to trade with them.

In 1580AD news spread to Russia that voyagers from Kingdom of Spain had founded a new world and subdued the natives living there. Russia took interests of claiming these new lands as they had endless lands of Siberia to claim only for themselves.

Spain actually got the conquerors!! Whaaaat???

The colozation of Siberia continued and the new colonies of Brjanks and Vladivostok were founded in 1585AD and 1590AD. The city of Vladivostok marked a significant step in Russian history as they now controlled a port on the Pacific Ocean. However the rapid expansions of Russia had angered the hostile Mongols nation.

Spoiler :
BTW, what's the real Vladivostok tile? I thought I would be that tile, but it gave me Omsk, which is actually somewhere south of Ural Mountains.

It gave you Omsk because the tile isn't in a place a Russian city would be named, so it used a default name (Like when England settles Morroco or something, The city becomes Cambridge). Also, I think Vladivostok might be further North, but I'm not sure.

Yeah, I know why it gave Omsk, but can anybody tell me where Vladivostok is supposed to be?? 1E and 1E+1NE:confused:

The Golden Age of Russian Tsardom started around 1600AD. The Romanovs rose to power in 1613AD and only 16 years old Mikhail Romanov was crowned as Tsar of All Russia. During this era the infrastucture of Russia was greatly improved.

Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

The Golden Age had lasted for 60 years, when Mongols declared war on Russia. However, the Tsar, Mikhail's son Alexis, had anticipated this. His spies all over Mongolia had reported of increased military actions and it was well known that the Russian acquisitions in Siberia had angered the Mongols.

Civ4ScreenShot0012.jpg

Therefore Russian Platoons were ready in the border cities as the Keshiks made their first suprise attack to Novosibirsk. The attacking horde was easily beaten by the better armoured Russian 1st Siberian Platoon.

Civ4ScreenShot0014.jpg

However, the main Mongolian attack was directed at Ust-Kut. This assault was stronger, but the Russian Platoons and heroicly battled Baikal Musketmen were able to defeat the attacking force with heavy losses.

Civ4ScreenShot0015.jpg

Dispite the heavy losses the Mongols kept coming, but when the 1st Siberian Militia defeated the Great Horde of great general Khadan Lingdan Qutuxu to the last man outside Novosibirsk the initiative moved to Russia. The 1st and 4th Siberian Platoons accompanied by the 1st European Platoon poured over over the deserts and took the Mongol outpost of Balkhash without signicant losses.

After the loss of Khadan Lingdan Qutuxu and the city of Balkhash the Mongolian attacks were limited to border disputes, which were mostly inefficient. The now legendary 1st Siberian Militia was once again victorious on the battlefield outside Novosibirsk.

In 1733AD the Russo-Mongol War had lasted for 50 years, when the new Tsar of Russia Peter I led the main Russian assault towards the heartlands of Mongolia. Peter directed the attack against Ulan-Ude in order to connect the Pacific colonies to the Tsardom. The famous 2nd European Platoon led the attack against the city, which fell under the Russian siege in only couple of weeks. The courageous Baikal Musketmen finally took to the city in the name of the Tsar.

The Mongols had lost and they knew it. Their former glory was only a distant memory when Janybek Khan bowed in front of Peter the Great and Mongolia was made a Tributary State of Russia.

I just entered Industrial Age when the last update ended, so the next update is going to start from that. I am also going to steal replaceable parts from Turkey soon. China and Japan are right behind me and so is Turkey, though everytime they research something I am there to grab it.:D

EDIT: China is close to me in points, because they have vassalized Japan and Khmers.

Then vassalize them and remake the tale of Alexander the Great a Russian epic. :D Are there anything of interest in the Baltic regions?

Perhaps in another game. :) Sankt-Peterburg's culture dominates the area, but Vikings managed to found Vasa and Lulea. I recently founded Murmansk to complete the USSR over there.

Make sure the Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь! (Workers of the World Unite!)

As I said in the first posts: You are way better than me, never thought stealing techs from Turkey:shake:.

Maybe I just need to learn more...

EDIT. You could try to conquer Finland. It wasn't under USSR's control, But it was under The Russian Provisional Government:p http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Provisional_Government

After Finland surrendered to USSR in 1944 it fell under USSR, During the 50s however it left the USSR. So it was under USSR control for 10 years

Yep that's a fact, but it only lasted slighty over a year, before Finland gained independence. But the provisional goverment just happened after the revolution, so Finland didn't belong to the USSR at any point, as you probably know. EDIT: USSR was founded 1922.

Yes learning new strategies is the key and there is still a lot to learn for me as well.:)

After Finland surrendered to USSR in 1944 it fell under USSR, During the 50s however it left the USSR. So it was under USSR control for 10 years

Finland never fell under the USSR. They signed a separate peace treaty and Finland declared war on Germany. Check it yourself here.

Nevertheless, in contrast to the rest of the Eastern front countries, where the war was fought to the end, a Soviet occupation of Finland did not occur and the country retained sovereignty. Neither did Communists rise to power as they had in the Eastern Bloc countries.

After the vassalation of the Mongols, Peter the Great declared Russia an Empire. He also started new huge improvements in order to stabilize the growing empire. Russian Empire entered the Industrial Age.

Russian knowledge depended still largely on stealing and copying the Ottoman inventions.

In 1754 news spread to Moskva that the Ottomans had conquered the Islamic Holy city of Mecca. Peter expected the Arabian Empire to collapse soon after this. Since the world had allied against the Arabs Peter decided to join the battle in order to please the other participants. Therefore in 1760 Russia declared war on Arabia. However, the Arabian cities in Kazakstan were too heavily fortified for the Russian Cavalry to take them without cannons, so Russia retained the fighting on the borders and didn't attack Arabian cities directly.

In 1775 the unstable Holy Roman Empire finally collapsed into several independent city states. The Polish city state felt immeadiate attraction to join the Russian Empire.

During the same year the British colonies in North America declared their independence and formed the United States of America.

In 1778 Peter the Great ended the war against the Arabs as a last action as the Tsar of the Russian Empire. The greatest Tsar of Russia died later that year.

How big is the Ottomon Empire? You need to make sure they dont get so big that they collapse soon after some conquests, which would mean you wouldn't be able to steal any techs.

:agree: When i said that Finland was under The Russian Provisional Government, i mean't it to be a joke, because Russia was never under a stable rule during years 1917-1922. (My opinion)
