100% correct animepornstar! The Helm blows in North England. There is a range of hills (The Pennines) which runs North-South. The West wind hits the hills and (rather like the Foehn wind elsewhere) forms a cloud over the hilltops which looks like a helm (=helmet). Due to the physics of it, the wind is warmer as it descends on the east side. You set the next question!

which city was callad "samarkand of africa" and to which country does it belong?

Samarkand occupied one of the most strategic points of the "Silk Road" trading route; therefore, I'm guessing on one of the likely African equivalents: Timbuktu (Mali).

(w/ Soffala as one backup {I'd have to look it up}; Zanzibar {Tanzania}as my next backup).

you are right andu. timbuktu in mali. next question is your.

last: russia.

next: where are they grey cities from the gamespy civ3 preview in the real world?

I'm am curious about the "grey cities" in Civ 3; I'm assuming that they are "new" barbarian cities.

But Russia is not the right answer; but you're on the right track -- one of the new "nations" from the old U.S.S.R.

(And in the meantime, I'm going to track down a screen shot of these grey "cities".)

Sorry, just went through the Gamespy preveiw section; and I didn't get past smiling face of Chairman Mao -- try as I might.

"The people are the heroes now,
Behemoth pulls the peasant's plow."

"Prophets come first,
prophets come first.
then Profiteers.
Prophets come first,
prophets come first,
them Profiteers."

I used to know that! Damn it! I'm not sure, but the blue was for the sea and/or islands and the white for the land. I'll get the real answer when I'm home, if someone else hasn't given the answer yet.

Well I thought it would be nice not to use the dictionary or the encyclopedia for the Geo quiz. It's wether you know it or not.

Just a suggestion.....

what do you think?

I say that because answers to practically all geo-questions can easily be found in books. It's not like the hist-quiz.

I agree with you. So don't count my answer. I remember more, now though. I know what the stripes mean: they're a little sentence. I don't remember what exactly, but it was something like "freedom or death" or "I will die for freedom". I don't know what the cross means, and I'm not sure that what I wrote about the colours is right, so...

Ok since no one answers I'll give you the next question for you try.
wink.gif

The complete answer was:

The Cross stands for christian faith.
The nine stripes stand for the nine sylabs of the Greek national moto: Freedom or Death. E-lef-the-ri-a (freedom) e (or) Tha-na-tos (death).
The blue and white stand for the white and blue clothes of the fighters of 1821 against Turkey. That's because the flags were made from their clothes.
Now that's just one explenation. There are many more.

I'll let you find the symbol that was taken off. It's the kind of things you like; you royalist! (I am too

)

But anyway your question!

Q: The Dutch flag is now red-white-blue. What colors did the first version have? When was the first version officially used? (name a century, that's enough) For/by who was it used?
