Yes that means you can ask the next Geography question.....

OK... I'll stick to my own experiences, and relate it to geography.

What is the approximate land area of the oldest Republic (in continual existence)?

A. 1 sq. km.
B. 10 sq. km.
C. 100 sq. km.
D. 1000 sq. km.
E. 10000 sq. km.
F. 100000 sq. km.
G. 1000000 sq. km.

BONUS: What is the name of the country and how many neighbors does it physically share a border with?

Volgograd (actually I wonder which of the two names is right: Volgograd or Volgagrad?)

It was founded in the 1200's.

Its name was originally Tsaritsyn. In 1925, the city was renamed Stalingrad in honor of the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin (he was given a city before while still alive! wow...). In 1961 Stalingrad was renamed Volgograd as Stalin was downgraded in the Soviet Union.

Actually I only knew the former name Stalingrad by myself; the rest I searched in the encyclopedia.

Is my answer ok?

So, I guess the answer is (c) approximately 100 square km.

Excellent! You are correct, Andu... I was amazed at that little country when I visited it a few years ago.

Az, you got the two names correct, but your information from the encyclopedia doesn't square with information from one of my history books, which puts the founding and nameing in the 1500s when Ivan conquered the area. Given, however, a contradiction between sources, we should accept your answer as being correct.

Your turn to ask.

Which flag is that?

<IMG SRC="http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/it_elbap.gif" border=0>

Clue: Napoleon

Oh and don't go to the link please...

Sorry I couldn't think of a better question now.

Yeah, that's the problem with the Geo questions; it takes time to think up a "good next question." Do exploration questions count under Geography?

As for the current question: has anyone explained Napoleon's fascination with Bees?

What do you mean by "exploration questions"?

Well that will be my next question in the history quiz <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0>

In ENgland our Geography GCSE exam is really stupid in a way. During the paper there was not one question that directly asked where a city/river/country etc was (There may have actually have been one or two questions). It did help to know where places were but it was more important to learn case studies because a typical question would be:

Describe the causes and effects of a river flooing in England or abroad. In you answer you should refer to a named example. (6 marks)
These are really fun to answer

Who discovered ...? Who was the first to reach ...? etc. (It's history; but, a good exploration question should be in a geography section rather than history!)

Well a question like "who discovered printing" should be in the history section. But "who was the first to reach the indies by sea" also belongs there in my opinion.
My question about the flag should maybe be in the history quiz also.

Definition of the word Geography

Definition 1. the science of the earth's surface, including variation in physical features, climate, population, agriculture, industry, political systems, and the like.

So what I think is that to be on-topic the question mustn't have anything to do with historical facts.

What do you think?

What about my question?

<IMG SRC="http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/images/it_elbap.gif" border=0>

Well you are half right mon cher ami Belge.

This is the flag of the principality of Elba of which Napoleon I was the prince from 1814 to 1815.

Your turn to ask...

Cool!

Ok ,i hope this question is not to hard.
(actually ,i think this one is easy)

At wich place in has Saladin defeated the crusader armies of The Kingdom of Jeruzalem at the end of the first crusades? (anno 1187)

A tip: I'ts somewhere in Israël. (good tip aint it?
smile.gif
)

Oh wait ,this is a geography topic no history.
confused.gif

Then let me ask an other question.

A simple one (for me) then.
What is the name of the biggest river running trough Poperinge? (belgium)
(A bit of nationalism isn't wrong i hope ,i used to live there (in that river) (Im a duck!!!) you know) (now i live in Ieper (den ijzer) )
I want the name in DUTCH.

I think this question ends this topic.
lol.gif

Well ,maybe that previous question was to hard. And i don't wont to be the reason of the death of this topic.
So i'm changing my question:

Where is the deepest point in the world?

must be a lot easier.

The lowest point on the earth's surface is located in the western Pacific Ocean, in the Marianas Trench. There have been various measurements of the actual depth. The measurements I obtained from research
wink.gif
varied from 10,910 m to 11,500 m

I guess I'm right...

Next Question: To which coutry belong the archipelagos named "the seven Islands" and "the welve islands".

Hint>>> Europe
