Quite simple. Ever since the auto-patch, I can no longer get past the Opening Film. If this isn't fixed *pronto*, then I'm going to be extremely *furious*!

Aussie.

Have you tried going into My Documents/My Games/Civ V/ and deleting your "cache" folder? Thanks, and let me know.

Tried it twice, & still nothing :(. Don't understand why its suddenly going wrong. I've never had a problem with the opening movie before. Is there any way I can skip the film? Or is the game simply failing to load?

Aussie.

Open up your UserSettings.ini and set SkipIntroVideo = 1. I suspect this is something else with your configuration, but I'm not sure yet.

Could you also post your DXDIAG so we can take a look? Thanks.

Sorry to sound like such a Newb, but where do I find the DXDIAG file?

Aussie.

That's okay. Click on the "Start" button, and type "dxdiag" into the search bar (or if you're running XP, select "Run", and then enter "dxdiag").

In the next panel that comes up, select "Save All Information" (button at the bottom of the panel). Open the file that was saved out, and copy and paste the first 3 or so page lengths into a post here so we can take a look.

Hey DShirk, any good news you can give me? The inability to play the patched game is absolutely *KILLING* me right now :(!!!

Aussie.

Your graphics card is under the minimum specs, it was even a weak one at the time point when it was released, and your graphics card driver was probably updated around the same time (2005, OMG!) -> update the the radeon legacy drivers, should maybe help.

I'm just weirded out that its only *now* that its started causing me problems ;-)!

Aussie.

Nope, that didn't help I'm afraid. Still crashing in start-up :(!

Aussie.

OK so this is what I've done without success so far:

1) Deleted Cache.

2) Switched off movie.

3) Updated Video Drivers.

....afraid no luck so far. Haven't checked my Steam Installation yet, but I doubt that's it. Anyone else have other suggestions on how to fix this? Its very recent, because I was playing the un-patched version of the game as late as Sunday....albeit on low graphics mode. That's why I suspect its a patch problem rather than a computer problem.

Aussie.

No, really, if there was a download glitch in a core file updated by the patch, crashes are pretty likely. Get Steam to verify the files - it doesn't do any harm, and it's a very plausible explanation. Just bear in mind that 1 file needing to be re-fetched seems to be normal, so if that happens it may well still not be fixing the problem.

Hey there guys. All fixed now. Don't know what happened, but it loaded fine. This incident has made me decide to bite the bullet & upgrade my computer from the *minimum* specs to the *recommended* specs ;). I'll only be able to do the RAM & Video Card this week, but will definitely be upgrading to a Quad Core next weekend!

Aussie.
