please get rid of all leaders, and instead make new civs. Having multiple leaders in same game is dumb, I dont understand how you people like it. More civs, one leader per civ please.

Personally, the option to chose leaders is not a necessary one for me, but it is something that I can enjoy. Anyway, there are several reasons why they did this, but perhaps the following two are the key.

The main reason is that people always argue who the leader of a Civ should be whever a new edition or expansion pack is announced. Some get really obsessed with a certain leader and there are still debates even now with who the the two or three leaders should be. The multiple leader feature was probably brought up to appeal to more people. For example my roomate never picks a leader of the opposite sex but he wants to be England, so the addition of Churchill appeals to him.

And then the second big reason is that it's not that hard to justify how having multiple leaders makes each game more unique and interesting. Also more fun because eventually someone make get tired of the same leader. At least their are more choices for a civ you may like, and you can experiment with different traits.

I do wish, however, that if there is indeed a Civilization 5 that additional leaders are reserved for the expansion packs because I felt that the leaders may have distracted them on focusing on other more important things that made the mothership not worth $50.
