Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott

How much more content than the original?

If you count the free content update with the the new versus maps and survival mode, its only slightly more. According to the previews it'll contain one more campaign than the first one. It'll contain versus for all campaigns and survival mode at release, and I guess new monsters and weapons count as content.

The main draw I think is their attempt to make the maps more random and prevent the strategies from the first game (such as holing up in a closet) from being effective.

Its a legitimate boycott/complaint. So far what Valve promised for L4D 1 hasn't happend, new maps(1 map for the light house isn't new maps, its A new map)

History of stealing money from gamers:

1) Vanilla game and that's it, 50$
2) Expansion packs released 2-3 years after main game, 20$, adds interesting stuff
3) Expansion packs released 6 months after main game, followed by more expansion packs every six months, each containing a ridiculously small amount of material. 25$ each.
4) Downloadable content, pay a few bucks for a few extras in the game, alright I guess... 5$ for some 5 new maps, a bunch of guns, some new character skins, a few game tweaks. 5$
5) Ridiculous 10$ downloadable content that adds 3 guns, and a vehicule plus a map

6) The future is now: release downloadable content for the price of a full game, label it as a different game.

Personally, I was calling BS at somewhere between step 2 and 3. I wish people didn't accept this crap so easily.

EDIT: I can't wait for the day when we'll all be paying monthly fees for every single game we want to play, because people somehow love defending game companies and/or people are too stupid to remember the past. Thanks guys.

The Sims series is notorious for this one.

generaly people do not want to buy the same or very-very-similar game twice.

Don't play many shooters, do you?

Most of them are very similar to the previous one with new maps and better graphics and maybe a new storyline twist.

Actually, in my experience people buy lots of games that are similar to games they already own. If not we wouldn't have any sequels to popular titles.

(And don't get me started on sports titles).

I do actually, but I never expect(ed) most of them to be updated a lot post-release.

Yeah, the news is kind of a shocker. A bit soon, don't you think? I do like the changing map idea though.

L4D2, so far, doesn't have enough new material to warrant an entirely new game. Not even an expansion pack, really. So I'm going to distantly support the boycott unless something significant emerges.

The new screenshots are interesting:
