Legacy of Civilization

Warcraft simply bridges the gap between the two!

At any rate I absolutely adore the Tau-ren and I hope this NES is a long and fruitful one. Here's to!

Damn straight, who knows we may yet see the Prot-Oss emerge...

Update 0: The Urban Revolution, Years 1-25

The human race has spent untold thousands of years roaming the earth or living in the most simple and remote villages and communities. At long last the first true cities have begun to emerge from the various tribes and social groups which previously existed. Along the fertile coastline of the Keralian Sea upon the continent of Citana, the first true cities have emerged as primitive kingdoms begin to be formed from the chaos which previously existed. Walled communities have been created to protect the growing amounts of farmers along the various rivers of the region, and the population has grown dramatically over the past years. New social types and classes have begun to emerge with the change to an urban society and humanity as a whole is on the brink of true civilization. From the collection of city-states which have grown up in recent years, only a few may establish a lasting Legacy for centuries to come.

Aagödia is a bright new civilization which has emerged from the walled city of Syngöd near the great desert of the south. The only matriarchal civilization to rise along the Keralian Sea, it is definitely unique in many attributes, with a much looser class system than other communities and emerging states. A devout nation, they place great stocks in deities related to agriculture and growth, praying for great prosperity for their people. Despite their prayers however, disaster plagued their farming stocks throughout the past twenty-five years. Grains have been damaged by an apparently unstoppable batch of rats, which have flourished upon the hard-worked foodstuffs of the Aagodian people. The setback sets these people to a rocky start as they begin their journey to greatness in the pages of history.
Aagödia Stat Changes:
+14,000 Total Population

Honacia is a more recent story of migration and nomadic principles, as the people of Honac were driven from their lands from the settlers of Surmum. Travelling east upon the Bunrun River, the walled city of Honac was built upon an island in the center of the river, acting as strong defense against bandits and the people of Surmum. Though the island frequently floods in periods of heavy rain, the fertile lands surrounding the community act as a strong base for agriculture and development for the fledgling civilization. Honacia has emerged as a very class based society, with priests and royalty placed far above the average people of the community. The Honacian people have emerged defensively, concerned that others may once more attempt to take their hard worked lands from them.
Honacia Stat Changes:
+15,000 Total Population

Klaplant has emerged upon the highly fertile delta of the Plavant River along the Keralian Sea. For a long time before settling their new city of Plen, the Klaplantanese have travelled across the regions of the world, leading a nomadic existence. Now, they have settled down into their new homes, using local clay resources to their advantage to improve agricultural production. Bountiful wealth provided by their first few years in their new homeland has further encouraged them to make their settlement permanent. With no local threats or opponents, the people of Klaplant seem well suited to a peaceful community, as their prosperity grows by leaps and bounds.
Klaplant Stat Changes:
+16,000 Total Population
City Dweller Faction emerges

Korala is based around the new city of Kayyatek, created from nomads from the western side of the Gilasha Mountains who journeyed there after a drought in their old homelands. To the Koralans, the fertile lands around the Kooyyr River seemed to be as much as a divine miracle, giving them strength to continue as a people. They settled down in the lush region, achieving success while growing new crops and produce throughout the lands. The new prosperity seems to truly agree with the Koralans, as their troubled past seems behind them as they continue to grow.
Korala Stat Changes:
+16,000 Total Population
City Dweller Faction emerges

Surmum is one of the greatest success stories of the fertile lands surrounding the Keralian Sea, prospering far beyond what other fledgling civilizations have seen. After driving the Honac tribe from the origin of the Bunrun River, the two tribes of the Eannumites and the Kurabites merged together to create the new city of Ludallab. The new city has served as a focus for the two peoples, though they still remain somewhat distinct from each other. Agricultural growth has continued at a great rate from local farming, but a new development occurred near the end of this early period of history. A community of Eannumites and Honacians which had formed a proto-city of their own were swayed by the earliest recorded diplomacy in history. In alliance with the people of the smaller city of Hondallab, this group of people have joined the larger civilization. This great boost have quickly led the Surmum society to be one of the largest in the known world.
Surmum Stat Changes:
+35,000 Total Population
City of Hondallab emerges in new territory
City of Hondallab Faction emerges
City Dweller Faction Grows to Small

Sylvania is a rising new civilization in the northeastern part of the Keralian Sea region. The city of Drakenburg has grown as a center of the Urban Revolution in the area, providing the Sylvanian people with new shelter and a new way of life. They were unified by a mysterious group known as The Fathers, creating a highly theocratic government over the superstitious farming folk of the region. Fueled by the desire to please their gods, the self-proclaimed Sons harvested an unexpectedly large amount of food this year. From the great surplus created, population growth continued at a larger rate than expected by the leaders of this new civilization. The Sylvanian people are well on their way to their destiny, whatever it may be.
Sylvania Stat Changes:
+22,000 Total Population

The Tau civilization has come into being upon the banks of the lush River Quai, growing into a rising theocratic kingdom. Convinced of the superiority of their people and religion, the culture has grown upon the belief that everything should be in its proper place, people and otherwise. It is believed that these dogmatic faiths may have led to migration away from the lands of the Tau-Ren, a more traditional and open-minded folk. The people of the great city Takkat have found themselves greatly tied to the land which surrounds them, as their wealth continues to emerge from it. This year in particular seems to have left the land more fertile than otherwise expected, allowing for great amounts of food production. This newfound wealth all the more reinforces that the Tau people are clearly destined for greatness above all the world's other kingdoms.
Tau Stat Changes:
+19,000 Total Population
Middle Class Faction size grows to Small

The Tau-Ren survived the schism with the Tau barely, but they managed to retain much of the roots of their culture that they held sacred. Rather than embracing monarchy and the divinity placed upon it as the Tau did, they have retained spiritual roots deeply in tune with their ancestors. The civilization is surprising in its organization which seems to be more of a collection of tribes than an organized society as of yet. Despite this, the community has been drawing closer and closer together around the city of Thunbloof, the first settlement of the Tau-Ren near the Keralian Sea. As the people grow closer together some believe that conflict with the Tau may be inevitable, as fears of dispute rise one more.
Tau-Ren Stat Changes:
+16,000 Total Population
City Dweller Faction emerges

A few quick things for the masses:

Which is preferred? A map with each post or simply updating maps on the front page?

I'd like to update this quick and painless for the beginning stages. I'm looking for at least 2-3 updates a week. Therefore, get orders in as fast as practicable (though don't diminish quality if you don't want to). The next scheduled update will occur on Tuesday evening.

I'd say a map with each post. Also good first update
Do you think you could make the maps bigger? There kinda small to see, if its not to much work :)

@Lord of Elves: What are you smoking? The Tau-Ren are clearly an original thought based off of crezth's Tau. It makes perfect sense.

Although there are large parallels between the two, I posted the comment as a joke.

OOC: Very nice ruleset.

Nation Name: Ruhin
Government: Hedonistic Theocracy
Capital: Ruh
Location:
Spoiler :
locy.jpg

edit: Dammit, warman got there first. Put me on the right-bottom river. That should be fine.

Preferred Map Color: Dark Green
Cultural Background: A hedonistic society that have spoiled themselves on the green lands that house them. They obviously make their way off of crops grown every year, growing a nice surplus along the river that flows south from Ruh, which they call the Rhend. This is named after the head deity in their pagan/animistic/polytheistic(sorry I don't really know the difference, forgive my ignorance) belief system, Rhend the giver of pleasure. Other important Gods include Klhen, the giver of crop, Ylan, the giver of beverage, and Gruy, giver of strength.

They are ruled by a head council elected by the men at the head of each clan. They ensure that the day is set aside for farming, pleasure, and thanksgiving. They ensure that no man shall be stripped of these "rights", nor his contribution to Ruhin.

There are some men, considered to be the head of their respective clans, that are exempt from hard labor in the fields along the field. They train themselves during their "free time" to prevent those jealous savages from areas around from laying waste to their great lifestyle. Because they are the superior folk of Ruhin, they are able to elect from amongst themselves head council men to watch over the people of Ruhin. A few of them also find time to acheive ambitious goals within the "bustling" center of residence of Ruhin, the town of Ruh itself at the mouth of the river.

Although there are large parallels between the two, I posted the comment as a joke.

As did I.

@civver_764: Please pick a different starting location. Take a look at the political map on Update 0 and you'll see why.

Map is quite hard to see due to size.
Also, placing links in one of the op's to each map would be nice
Otherwise, very nice if unlucky for me) first update... liking the pace!

I apologize about the size of the map. That is a error I noticed after doing all the hard work in the first place. I intend on keeping climate and resource maps on the first post at all times, updated of course with territory explored. I will however, set up a update history list in one of the posts before as per your request.

Once again, a note to all, the quicker orders are sent in, the faster pace the NES will be.

Orders, and questions sent! :)

As Tukulbanda arrived in the city of Honac, he felt a bit nervous. He carried more than his usual Hondallab wares today. As he moved towards the Royal District, he muttered to himself the words Nan'shibarta, incarnation of the Goddess Nan, had told him. He was to repeat them in front of the highest authorities of Honacia.
Tukulbanda hesitated as he reached the river bank. He had slept on the north bank and managed his own business there yesterday, but this night the moon had completed its first quarter, and therefore it was the most propitious day to complete his diplomatic mission. Taking a deep breath, he boarded his small boat and ordered his nephew to row towards the island.
Once arrived, he would repeat these words in front of the Royal Court:
Greetings from Nan and Unu. Surmum admires the fertility of Honacia fields and the craft of their farmers, and we know that Honacians have always been happy to trade with the people of Surmum. Tukulbanda, envoy of Nan'shibarta, incarnation of Nan the Goddess, speaks in the name of Nan and Unu.
Surmum proposes Honacia to strike a deal: We can sell you our woods and stone in exchange for your crops. This offer would be advantageous for your people, who need the raw materials we find so easily nearer the mountains in order to protect yourself from the floods of the river. This offer would be advantageous for our people, who could keep working in the hills and profit from the food you would sell us.
Surmum has a tradition of trade and welcomes other people. Your merchants would therefore be welcome in our lands, as our caravans have been welcome in yours. Certainly, you will consider this trade opportunity with benevolence and wisdom.
Now Tukulbanda landed on the island, the heart of Honac. He told his nephew to wait for him there until dusk, took another deep breath, and went to meet the leaders of Honacia.

A quick pair of statements, soon to be clarified upon the front page as well:

You don't need military forces to expand, you can use your total population stat for that. Military forces are best just for total conquest, raising levies without a war could invite dissent. I leave it to you to decide whether you may need any additional forces raised for the turn.

All population growth is added to Total Population. If you want to grow more food to make up for the growth, simply add more of your Total Population to the Farming Population stat. You can do this at any time, otherwise you will soon find yourself running out of food completely.

I'd like to join.

Nation: Waluka
Government: Absolute Monarchy
Captial: Wakiki
Location: The Northeastern River please.
Preferred Map Color: Light Blue
Cultural Background: The Waluka people have been an indiguous people for thounsands of years before recanlty settling on the Northeast river: The Wakiki River to the local resdants. The Waluka people believe in many gods. There main god Kahula is there creater, and in their legand, created the world with all of the poeple. The two other minor deities are Lahula, and Nakita. Lahula is the god of the sun, and Nakita is the god of the moon. The Waluka people also have many other smaller deities surrounded by many countless legends (like the god of agurculture, the gods for the four seasons, the god of the ocean, the god of the land ect.). The Waluka people could be conparable to our own Anchient Egyptian civilization.

The Waluka people have a Absolute Monarchy. They have a king called Pulah. A queen called Tinkia, and a prince called Gulanda (or princess callde Gulandi). They have a religious festivale every year called "The Comming of Kahula". ON that day the people have festivals, games, dances, stories, and the sacrifice to the gods. The Waluka people are also very rich. There upper class lives in lavish homes with many statues (of the gods) created from pure gold. The upper class lives a classic rich-person snotty life while getting the higher seats in their chariot races during the "The Comming of Kahula".

The Middle Class lives like our middle class in today's world. They're usually hard working, and some are even advisours to the king. Sometimes a middle class person even becomes king (likley due to a revolt). The Middle Class jobs include: carpinture, blacksmith, solder (rarley), priest, High Priest, and advisor.

The Lower Class of the Waluka people are the slaves, drunkerds, and poor people. They usually work on farms, work as slaves (buliding statues, farming ect.) and usually join the army. Many are crminals as well.

OCC: Whew! That was a lot of writing, oh and I won't screw up this NES (like some other NES's that I screwed up a while ago...:mischief:),

@ EQ:Oh and before I forget, do I send orders now, or after the next update

@bestrfcplayer: Well, your writing has improved so I'm willing to give you benefit of the doubt. A couple of things, first, just minor nitpicks. First, the river is unfortunately in not as fertile woodland. While this may mean some raw material bonuses, your population will grow a bit more slowly than nations in more fertile lands. Therefore, let me suggest starting in the fertil lands just a tiny bit to the south of that river. Also on your classes, may I suggest dividing making slaves a separate class below the Lower Class? Seems like it may make life simpler for both of us to consider them different groups of people.

Nation Name: Neek
Government: Oligarchy
Capital: Neek
Location: You know that island we talked 'bout.
Preferred Map Color: Georgia Green :p
Cultural Background: A small, isolationist island city state made up of grain farmers and shell fish harvesters who have for generations resided in complete separation from the outside world. Very protective of their neighbors and society these people will not interbreed with outsiders and believe their fair skin, green eyes and blonde hair are heaven sent gifts from the gods. The government is run by land owners, with the average persons being workers under the land owners. Society is patriarchal with women being homemakers while men work the fields, as such the per female birth rate is higher than some cultures, though the population is much more confined and smaller.

Handicaps: 15,000 Starting Population and being xenophobic.

Well, over 50% of orders are in. Come on ye stragglers! get them in tonight for an early update!

All right, with crezth's orders coming in, the update is underway.

@bestrfcplayer: I'm adding your nation in, placing your nation in the most fertile region near your river.

With this, please don't negative my nation too much.. or even resind those orders.. grow naturally and stockpile the resources..?
