Legendary Earth Mod (LEM)

Does this mod alter any of the XML files at all? Altering City State names isn't as hard. I'm only wondering because I wanna be able to get remainder of my achievements, and scenarios with no modifications still permit that.

You won't get achievements playing on this map, sorry!

I'de like to first of all say that this is by wide margin the funnest map to play on ever, ever. That being said, I do have some concerns.

Rome, which should be one of the main superpowers for a good amount of time in a game, is currently, for me at least, one of the weakest civs in the map. It is always one of the first civs to get conquered. And for good reason.

See, every time I try to play as rome, I almost immediatly get trapped between france and Greece, if the greeks create a settler before me. When this happens I'm left with no room to expand or explore. This is because of the mountains you put north of italy, theirs only two ways you can go out from land.

Oh and add dublin, kthxbai

Rome is hard to deal with, unfortunately. Making the Alps into hills would be kind of lame. However, if you're playing the latest map then Greece should just be a city-state (Athens). I'm considering options for how to best fix Rome when I rework the map for the God's & Kings expansion, but I really think the best way is to turn them into a city-state, especially since Carthage will be monopolizing northern Africa.

A second option is to make different versions of the map where the civs occupying Europe are different.

Also, adding Dublin would take away from one of the few spots for cities that the English have...unless I make Dublin maritime I won't add it in.

Ahh if only these types maps could get bigger. Imagine a map like X10 the scale of this one. Europe would be playable, asia and the pacific would be massive.

And greece a city state? what

Are you playing the DLC or non-DLC version of the map? Greece is only a city-state in the DLC version...

Hey Dark_Jedi06, I really like your map! Are you going to release it through Steam Workshop and update it for G&K? Maybe release a version of the map rebalanced with all of the new nations? :)

Absolutely! It's one of the reasons I'm so excited for the release of the expansion. :)

I've already redone the base map to be more accurate, I'm just waiting now to place the new luxuries, natural wonders, etc. I plan on releasing several versions that utilize different civs, i.e. in one version Scandinavia is occupied by Denmark and in the other Sweden.

I may upload the original version to the Steam Workshop just so I get a feel for how it works.

Thank you for your interest!

Cant wait to see this upgraded for G@K, I know that you will release different versions like you said, but which of the new civs will be included regardless of the version? The only civs I can think about that would not conflict with the current civs starting locations are ethiopia and carthage. (They would interfere slightly with egypt, which frankly had too much room to begin with. Africa would be a yellow blob running all the way down in most of my games, )

Also, I have a suggestion. Why not upscale europe by a large margin by making the space between africa and the south limit much shorter (Like the distance between south america and antartica). This way you could stretch europe and the Mediterranean, giving more space, especially given the fact that their will be loads of new euro civs.
Yet another tsl does this, though it is technically a 'giant' map, bigger than huge.

EDIT: One more thing. The two native american city states in USA territory (Orabi and cahokia), should go. I know they where there in the original version of this map when they where needed, but now they basically force America to only settle along the east coast. Conquering city states is a horrible decision for diplomacy, and the American AI never does it, and he usually winds up being overwhelmed by the aztecs and iriquos with their superior room. You could also slightly shrink the pacific ocean (Polynesia doesnt need THAT much room, I mean they do have all of australia to themselves if they run out of islands) in favor of making the americas wider. The united states and mexico are much too small in their current state. South america is fine though.

Hey all!

Getting started on the G&K super-duper revamped version of LEM. :) I want to try and keep you updated as I progress. I already had a brand new base map prepared so I could get to work. Here it is so you can get a peek:

This is just the base map with terrain and features applied as well as all of the natural wonders. Next comes adding in resources in their accurate locations and working out the civs. Right now I suspect there will be two versions with different playable civs. Since 22 is still the limit, some will be interchangeable but some will be common to both maps.

Version 1

America
Arabia
Austria
Byzantium
China
Egypt
England
Ethiopia
France
Germany
Huns
Inca
India
Iroquois
Japan
Maya
Mongolia
Russia
Siam
Songhai
Spain
Sweden

Version 2

America
Arabia
Carthage
Celts
China
Denmark
Egypt
Ethiopia
France
Inca
India
Iroquois
Japan
Korea
Maya
Netherlands
Ottomans
Persia
Rome
Russia
Siam
Songhai

In addition, city-states may vary as well.

Could you also make a version that more realistically differentiates the new/old world, by removing America, removing iron and horses from the americas (horses werent in them historically and iron so you dont encounter, say, Iroquois with shiny steel armour. ) And possibly giving old world civs a head start in techs.

Also you could make one with more of a focus on ancient/classical civs, like not having any of the european countries except rome, celts, greece, and maybe huns, and by including babylon instead of ottomans/byzantium.

Edit: In both of those lists your missing siam.

Thank you for pointing out that Siam is missing...though that really throws a wrench into everything! I really just need 23 slots instead of 22, back to the drawing board. :crazyeye:

I like the idea of simulating an Old World start and that will most likely be a version of the map I'll work on in the future.

Good to hear! I hope you manage to be the first to update a tsl mod for G@K, your map really is the best overall.

And they really should increase the civ limit..

But yeah, I'll be playing your map asap, im praying it'll be done by tonight ;)

Could you also release a version of the map where the starting locations remain the same (plus some new ones in Australasia), but non-specific with regard to specific civs or city states? :)
