Let's play: Civ IV!

Looking forward to viewing these as soon as I get to a computer where y00t00b isn't blocked.

All parts through 7 are uploaded...I'm recording a few more tonight. Next week will be busy but I'll probably sneak a few in anyway here and there ;).

Hi

The ones I have seen have been pretty coolies. I wonder, if since they are to be like tutorials maybe a state oif the world vidoe every so often might be helpful to ppl watching. Like where you dont actually do any playing just looking out over the map and through your cities and and tech sitch and stuff to show how things are at that point and any long range plans and such.

You do mention stuf flike that as play but sometimes you can miss out as things move along. A lil state of the world video wouldnt even have to take a full ten min just enough to go through the diff screens or cities you think would be important to check every now and then. Just a suggestion. :)

I just watched up through Episode 6; nicely done, TMIT. Just wondering: What are you saving that GG for?

It's a play error. I settle it in part 7 and explain that there were probably people wondering about it .

You should update the first post with each segment. Or at least the most current one. Some of us are to lazy to actually go onto youtube and search you know ;)

They're all part of the same "series" now, so searching isn't necessary, just click on the next one ;). If you subscribe you'll see new ones.

It's a good suggestion, but I don't actually do this for myself, so it's rather foreign to me. Long range planning in the context of my typical game doesn't exist. I usually just think of "how can I win", although I think of that and focus on it quite often. You'll see some LR planning if I see an easy UN or AP win brewing, for example.

All 10 will be included in the playlist shortly as well. I've actually finished more parts but I have to go to bed so I'll wait to post them until tomorrow...though I don't get home until 9 pm USeast.

Parts 8, 9, and 10 are uploading, and I fixed the issue that was making it take forever, too!

TheMeInTeam,

More ideas keep popping up in my head. Feel free to use any or none of them. :)

I think it would be wise to link to the CFC forum post in which you talk about each game in the video description field. Youtube's commenting system is ever so limited.

Also, it would be nice for you to upload the save file of each stopping point, and attach them to the first post. Once the game is done you could probably compress them into a single zip file stored on some free file sharing website.

Another thing is you may want to change the name of the videos to something less generic. I have no idea how many of these you plan on doing, but if you did more than 1 and named it "Lets play Civ IV" then it will get increasingly difficult to follow.

Please don't take this to mean I don't like the videos. On the contrary, I am very much enjoying the videos! And your commentary is awesome. You tend to talk just enough about the current going-ons that you're entertaining without talking too much that you're annoying. If I didn't know better I'd say you had done this before. Anyways, I just see so much potental here that I'm bursting with ideas, and I have no idea how far you want to take this.

The second part of episode 7 seems to have disappeared :(

EDIT: Nope, I can see it now

Agree with kesshi also about the commenting, watched pt3 this morning, you're really doing well here. I think his idea of attaching saves is very useful.

Sound and video quality are reasonable, if it can be enhanced the series would be even more fun of course. In case you might have overlooked it i link to this post:

I don't know this program but it sounds as if it could be useful.

thanks for doing this. if i didn't know better i would swear you are my twin! of course i probably have about 20-25 years on you. thanks again.

The "tri" in trireme is pronounced like the "tri" in triangle :)

Doing nicely, I can't read most of the UI though, any chance you'd be getting the hi-definitinion mode on them?

Once I have them all converted I might upload them to filefront then, because the videos look pretty nice on my computer before upload.

Also, I'm somewhat limited on sounds ---> my headphones are the only ones I'll have for a while since I'm poor, and I am relying on them as my microphone. In the last 3 videos I tried to get the mic as close to my mouth as possible without french kissing or swallowing the thing, which is likely to be both unpleasant to me and to cause everyone else undesirable mental pictures. To avoid the latter, imagine cathy or izzy (the civ versions) in my place, or the model of your choice.

I think it's pretty good - interesting to watch someone else actually play, especially since you play quickly. Wish something like this was available when i was playing prince/monarch. Should help players to learn the upper levels. How many segments do you expect this to end up being? Even if it ends up being 4-5 hours long, the time it takes a prince level player to play a game, and read through a couple threads/strategy articles they could watch this twice, and learn more.

You've covered a lot of important points already - maybe use feral's emperor guide, and some other articles with a bunch of strategy bullets and use it as a kind of check list - making sure you mention each point somewhere in one of the segments.

Now everyone will expect you to post a shadow for every game on here with a link to the a "lets play" before anyone else even plays to the end.

Somehow I got it in my head that I might actually do a LHC or MS game on there instead of a typical spoiler ;). I think this one will end in the 25-30 segment range, pretty reasonable (and on the low end for a LP).

So you mean it's a headset mic, right? If it's right up against your mouth and yet you're getting that much noise, the mic gain is probably turned down on your system somewhere. If you're running Vista, right-click the volume icon on the taskbar and click "Recording Devices". Select your mic and click "Properties". Under the "Levels" tab, you should see the gain settings. Otherwise your mic is b0rked lols.

Just got home after some late night bridge (another multiplayer game out there). There's some fuzz on the sound but you're clearly audible. I think improving the video would help more than the audio which is easily understandable anyway since you have a very clear voice for commenting.

Probably first finish this game, then we can look at this as a whole and see how we can improve. As i said before it's beyond expectations anyway.

I keep grabbing my mouse while watching to try and move around the screen.
