List of early access streams and Let's Plays

Ugh, are there some... different let's plays? All I checked out so far are a pain to watch. All of them play and comment with the notion that their viewers are new to civ VI and know next to nothing about it. They themselves seem to learn way too slow (maybe for show i.e. "let's learn slowly together"). It's tiresome watching them figure out movement rules (many BTW seem to never quite learn them completely) or explain them to viewers. Same with eurekas and other features / mechanics, which Firaxis talked about already over and over and over again over the course of several months. Nevermind how often they are actually wrong / clueless. Oh, the paaaain! And they all play way too slow.

What I want to see is:

1. Play normally / fast (without stopping to explain stuff that people on these forums at least, know already and know it better than them)
2. Try to get to space i.e. explore the tech tree
3. Try ICS. I'm yet to see someone to actually try spamming as many cities as possible. Somehow it just doesn't happen. And yet in every game I saw that NOT happening, I saw no reason for it NOT to happen. Just do it already!
4. Someone to play in strategic view. No need for a whole game, just a few turns here and there to see it in action.

I'm not really ranting here, exclamation marks are just for dramatic effect :D

Quill18 was up to 30+ cities by end and did pump out settlers for many of them. This is a move trade route screen from around that time.
Day 3: https://www.twitch.tv/quill18/v/92413450?t=1h5m13s

He didn't play in strategic view but did bring it up a few times and did scroll over much of the map:
Day 2: https://www.twitch.tv/quill18/v/92199463?t=41m49s
Day 3: https://www.twitch.tv/quill18/v/92413450?t=44m48s

It has a lot of detail about the state of things like improvements, the fires on pillaged tiles, highest building in district, and a hammer over a wonder being built by Athens.

Here is a series by Biffa, not sure if this was on the list. He's not a strong player in the least but seems like a good chap.

Let me ask the Forum about the early access vids...
Which one is the "best"?

I don't have much time to watch these :(
I follow Marbozir's Greek game...
Is there another one that is more... "entertaining"?

I follow Marbozir's videos too. I've tried different streams before and I like him the most. Of course, there's possible a lot of information in the rest of the let's plays.

In addition to Marbozir, I enjoy the two streams on Writing Bull's Youtube channel. They are in German though (why?) and both play rather slow. They play well, however, and always explain why they choose to do things, which makes it more interesting to me than watching people click on stuff and progressing fast.

Filthy Robot has a decent level of entertainment, although I had to mute it because he was dropping f bombs and my kids were in the room.

The only one I can watch past the first few minutes of play is Marbozir, who is competent and quick, sometimes too quick. He knows the game pretty well and seems to have done his homework. Most of the others are sheer torture to watch for me: I'm an experienced player who does not want to hear a guy privileged to get the press copy and be able to play, whine about not ever playing Civ before and not knowing what to do. Why do they give out press copies to total incompetents who do not show off game play but rather infuriate with their complete unpreparedness for the game? Argh! It seems to be to defeat the purpose of press copies and echoes what happens in daily life with the regular mainstream media talking heads who seem totally ignorant half the time about what they are paid handsomely to pontificate about, yet feel they must fill the air with stupid banalities and guesses because they have no facts or anything worthwhile to say. I would have liked to watch Total Biscuit's replay after watching the livestream for a few minutes, but came back to it only to discover it is a subscription based service he provides. No thanks. I hate to sound elitist and impatient but that's my honest take on this. Does anyone have any preview players in English that they recommend, who seem pretty competent and don't talk smack half the time?

Marbozir would fit that description the most.
Then you can try UnstableVoltage (youtube) and FilthyRobot (twitch).

Right now shenryyr is streaming a decent game on twitch. Exploiting version 2.0 of the range vs melee unbalance.

There are probably others.

because Writing Bull is German??? it's weird how that happens.

I agree with all these recommendations of Marbozir. He and Filthy Robot strike me as clearly the two strongest players (at least of all the English-language streamers), and they both play at a crisp pace, too. But of the two I find Marbozir more pleasant to listen to.

Appreciate the responses. Much of my ire is frankly, impatience to get my own hands on the game...of course. :)

Yea, I don't mind thoughtful slow play, I only get wound up when the move is completely obvious and still they linger.

That said, I suppose you are right. I want to play for myself too.

Gotta wait another 420 hours or so.

Yes, of course. But that's not a mandatory reason. Other YouTubers choose to publish in english, besides it being not their first language. Maybe WB wanted to position himself different in the market and find his own niche. In his own description he is presenting 'strategy games for adult gamers.' I can imagine that he would get more attention when he would publish in english, but also more competition, of course.

I watched Writing Bull when the first XC2 videos came out before release and that was interesting. They'd deliberate tactics forever before a move, picking every possible permutation to death but generally ended up picking good moves. I don't speak German but could kind of follow the conversation anyway just in context of what they were seeing and doing. But XC2 is not Civ VI and I can't quite follow them the same way. I do wish they'd translate their Civ VI vids, it would be interesting.

Most of the others are sheer torture to watch for me
I actually find the most enjoyable LPs are those from people who are going in blind, but have the capacity to pick things up quickly, and not repeat mistakes. It's fun to watch someone learn the game and properly work through the motions of figuring out how things work. But it's definitely a fine line between sufficiently quick learning and shouting-at-the-screen idiocy. Some LPers can be too focused on keeping things moving quickly that they neglect to reflect on what they're doing. I think ChristopherOdd has been quite good at staying on the right side of that fine line; I suspect Yogscast may not be so much.

The only ones I watch are: Marbozir, Drew, and Yogscast. Yogscast is the most entertaining while Marbz is the most insightful IMO

I need to watch more of Odd's Scythia LP. It's fun to watch people learning the game. And since I plan to stream my first few games, it's good to see I'm not alone in thinking that.

I'm very excited from Civilization VI! Can't wait when I start my first game!:yumyum:
