LK128 - What the? Who the?

I don't like the idea to go after America or Carthage at this stage.
Monarchy is out and soon Feudalism too.
We've a gay situation between Roosevelt and Hannibal, so during a war
one will probably become a vassal of the other.

Remember 15 peace / 10 war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.

Win target: Open, but I would like a military win if possible.

...may well be filled by uneventful turnsets, although this barb may not agree:

Civ4ScreenShot0038.jpg

There are a handful of axes now down Yayoi way. The AI didn't soften up the barbs for us, so maybe we can send a couple more down that way.

Brennus seems to have discovered marijuana as well as Hinduism:

Civ4ScreenShot0041.jpg

I had a moment of weakness at Wonsan when I hired 2 Scientists for 1 turn before realising they won't be generating a GMan...

Civ4ScreenShot0042.jpg

The riverside forest centre south in the pic will be cottaged in three and the easterly one is being cottaged (and there's a worker at Zhou who can join the fun at Seoul next turn).

Only Brennus has Lit, but he lacks Marble. Hannibal has Marble, Roosy does not.

I flogged Poly to Hannibal for 180g, so we might want to make a similar deal with Roosy as our cash runs down. In other news, Christianity was FIDL and Parthenon was BIDL.

One thing I forgot to mention about Seoul is that I stuffed it with 4 axes to 'artificially' raise the happy cap whilst building GL, so it would not hurt to whip pop to complete the wonder (if allowed), and moves out some of the axes.

125 AD - 375 AD

0 sell Polytheism to Roos for 50 gold (he must have it almost researched himself), ask and get Ivory from Hannibal!

2 Hinduism spread

4 Construction > Metal Casting (nobody has it, and its a good trade for currency that everybody has, and its the path to engineering). Start building War Elephant which has higher priority than hwacha's since Hannibal can withdraw his gift any moment. Whip Great Library!

5 Funny guy Roos build a city in the upper north (east). Will probably flip one day to us and we"ll destroy it.

6 Tja .... 5 axes are not enough against two archers on a hill, and our sixth axe was one turn too late ....

notenoughaxeszw0.jpg

Withdraw these two axes to Pusan, i've lost interest in that barbcity

15 Iron is hooked up, but at the moment we're building WE's. Metal Casting comes in, we have monopoly on it, we can get 260 gold and currency from Roos for it, but maybe wait and start building forge and Colossus in Seoul. Next tech? Machinery leads to Engineering, but Drama leads to Philosophy which is still not researched and we could get it with a great scientist (2 turns)

I won't be playing until early Sunday (AM).

That works fine. I already need to squeeze in RB29A sometime on Sunday, and that is enough to deal with. That let's me play this one Monday.

Pre-turn
Roosevelt has enough on his hands. We have -3 close borders.
Brennus favorite civic : Organized Religion (The old Brennus, Hatshepsut or Ramesses)
Change research : Drama

IBT 365 AD
America declares war on Celtia.

380 AD (2)
Zu Chongzhi has been born in Seoul.

IBT 380 AD
Roosevelt offers fish for wine, I reject.

IBT 425 AD
Hannibal cancels the ivory deal.

440 AD (6)
Drama is known, start to research Calendar.

Whip monastery in Pyongyang.

455 AD (7)
Sell Alphabet to Hannibal for Calendar.
Start to research Currency.

IBT 470 AD
Roosevelt offers Horseback Riding for Metal Casting, I reject again.

IBT 485 AD
Hannibal also offers Horseback Riding and wants Drama. No way.

515 AD (11)
A revolt takes place in San Francisco.
Sell Literature for Currency to Hannibal.
Start to research Feudalism.

560 AD (14)
Hannibal is greedy.

575 AD (15)
The AIs are still very greedy. Brennus wants Philosophy for Feudalism,
Roosevelt wants 3 techs for it.

575 AD
I see nothing to change. I suspect the Hindu temple is to increase the cultural pressure on Seattle and Philadelphia.

605 AD
(IT) Scratch one stupid city.

lak1257fb4.jpg

We pick up a free chariot for our troubles.

620 AD
(IT) With Seoul having the Great Library, I don't think there is a possible dispute on where to build the National Epic.

650 AD
(IT) The next tech is archery, so that we actually have the option to build longbows.

665 AD
(IT) The next tech is civil service to get the badly needed irrigation chains going.

680 AD
(IT) I refuse the American demand to stop trading with the Celts.

740 AD
Seoul now has an academy.
(IT) Seattle is hit with a Korean revolt.

755 AD
I give Brennus philosophy for machinery.
I give Carthage philosophy and for code of laws, compass and $190.

=======================

Summary:
15 quite builder turns. Production City is back building needed military, as we are stuck in 7th place.

Our workers are getting ready to chain some irrigation.

I would like optics as the next tech in order to find the missing civs.

Heroic Epic - I would suggest Production City.
Globe Theater - I am open to suggestions. We do have some of the needed theaters built.
Wall Street -
Oxford -
Forbidden Palace -
National Epic - it is under construction in Seoul.
Iron Works -

Got it. Post tomorrow.

Spyglasses and waterways, aye, aye!

Learned all about civil servants so hired a bunch in the capitol (revolted to Bureaucracy) and set the sights to Optics, then Paper, then Printing Press fo the extra commerce from our towns.

National Epic finished at Seoul so it started an Acqueduct after a caravel but also hired two extra scientists so we will be ready for a shot a Edumacation when the time comes soon....in say six turns or so.

Both the Celts and the Murricans sought our assistance in their hostilities but I turned them down, then sold Roosevelt Drama for his treasury (710 gold pieces) so I could burn my way to Paper and map trades with some new friends.

First this ruffian in ringlets

Civ4ScreenShot0003-1.jpg

He seems to have some interesting knowledge.

And his response to our hearty "What ho?" was a share of teh cash we had just removed from Roosevelt's pockets.

"Then along comes Sally"

Civ4ScreenShot0006-2.jpg

He is no slouch in the knowledge department either.

Both of them appeared from the south, sailing up Hannibal's coast. So I sent one caravel (whipped out of Zhou) back down the track and a second (built in Seoul as a trireme and upgraded for cash) due west from Seoul.

But before either got out of known waters we learned Paper so I put in a call to Louis and bought his maps. Based on that knowledge both Sally and Louis came across a short crossing on Brennus's west coast. So I then set courses for the two caravels to cover the dark areas on the map on the most direct route.

The last nation on the other continent is sweet Catherine sandwiched between Louis on the south and Saladin to the north.

We appear to be good for the circumnavigation bonus and there are bouys on the water showing the shortest path to closing the gap.

Sally appears the putative tech leader as he is the only one with both Paper and Philosphy, but we haven't met Catherine.

Civ4ScreenShot0018-1.jpg

Relationships among the nations are "misty" to "slightly cloudy" with religious differences and "worst enemy" trade the primary modifiers.

Civ4ScreenShot0022-1.jpg

Louis and Sally are in bed together, I wonder where that leaves Catherine? Something we shall discover shortly.....

We remain the laggard nation, though our military numbers are creeping up as troops are trained in Production City and Wonsan They are gathered into Production City for a jump into Carthage when the time appears right. Zhou on the east coast is building the start of a navy.

Our power rating is anemic compared to the French and only barely above the Celts

Civ4ScreenShot0019-1.jpg

The marked irrigation chains are done and the worker gangs can now be split back up to start improving the south and east lands which yet need attention.

Summary:
Current plans
Prepare for eventual war with Carthage.
We want to officially meet Russia.

Heroic Epic - I would suggest Production City.
Globe Theater - I am open to suggestions. We do have some of the needed theaters built.

Got it. Had a look and I feel we've allowed our cities to grow too big versus our 'natural' happy cap: we've got some good units (WEs, CBs) tied up on MP duty.

I traded Philo, Compass and Map to Roosy for Engineering and 10g, so I plan to whip up some infrastructure and trebs for the assault on Hannibal. Utica is weakly defended and I'll check out Carthage, too.

Russia is the not contacted civ, but I'm not sure who's their leader.
With random personalities it doesn't really matter.

Favorite civics :
Brennus -> OR
Saladin -> OR
Roosevelt -> Bureaucracy

Fairly quiet turnset spent putting together a stack to attack Hannibal and trading some techs to get Engineering, Guilds and Music. We're currently researching Liberalism, but Sal finished Education four turns earlier than we did (even with our GS burning for 2470 beakers of Edu), so if he goes for Liberlaism, he'll get it. I think, however, that he will grab Economics.

Seattle revolted to us and I decided to keep it, as it's close to Seoul and it will pay off, especially after we get some windmills built there.

We met Cathy on the same turn that we circumnavigated:

Civ4ScreenShot0047.jpg

As you can see, she's Buddhist too, which explains why Sal is doing so well (massive shrincome). Strategically, I think we need to take down Hannibal then roll over Roosy and tech to victory (unless the Buddhist bloc crumbles).

To that end, I've put this stack together, with the intention of marching on Utica:

Civ4ScreenShot0056.jpg

Signs show that several of his cities are lightly defended, but Carthage has some decent units:

Civ4ScreenShot0045.jpg

That CR2 Treb can attack Utica. I think we're ready to go in one or two turns. The next player can update the info on Carthage's military by sending a unit down there for a quick look, before declaring war. However, I think Lee, as captain, should check the save before we play on, and give the OK/veto to war with Hannibal.
