LK147 - world map, China

ROSTER:

@CKS - hope you feel better soon. When my kid was younger he did the same type of sharing with me.

LKendter (up)
Todd Marshall (on deck)
Greebley (just played)
CKS (skipped)

There is a 5th slot still open if somebody interested.

I have it, but it will take awhile. I have time tonight, but the weekend is busy. With the amount going on, it could easily be Monday before I finish.

1335 AD (0)

Horses are sold to Venezuela for $310.
The Aztecs get coal for $25/Turn.
I draft hard to get more troops to supress resitors. We are suffering with 72 at the moment.
(IT) Just like last turn, getting stupid overseas war declarations.
I see rare peace talks - Zululand and Babylon make up.
The Russians are scary with blocks of infantry walking around. The proper solution - the Zulu declare war on them. LOL
I suffer a flip in Sardis.

1340 AD (1)
Choybalsan is taken care of.
We recover Sardis.
We capture New Delhi getting $132 and catch some AI ships in port.
Worker actions are a time suck right now, as I am shifting them to rail near the Egypt borders.
We are down to 65 resistors. Getting rid of them is really tough, as I simply don't have enough troops to put in the cities.
(IT) I am surprised there is any stupid combination left for overseas wars. I get another one.
I love seeing messages of workers built / resistors gone in our conquered cities.

Persia must have had cavalry in Babylon territory. They stole Ulaangom from us. :(
Samaria flips and really screws us. Due to the traffic jam around the city several units were inside. :(
Egypt steals our oil site. :wallbash:

1345 AD (2)
Samaria is recovered. I sell all improvements, and then abandon it. With it being a resource city I don't want to fool around. I used our spare settler to immediately replace it with Wineville.
Ulaangom is recovered thanks to the sword army sitting next to it.

We ship the Iroquois refining for $56/T and $460.
(IT) Argentina and Zululand embargo us.
I have to give up thinking the stupid alliances are over. Yet another overseas alliance is signed.
Egypt declares on Germany.
We lose Bangalore to a flip.

Will try and post another update over the weekend.

Take your time, I can't play till late Saturday or Sunday anyhow. And actually, Tuesday night/Wednesday is probably when I'd be able to post anything, so, really, no rush

Update as in a more turns played. That small block took hours...
I won't upload a save until at least Monday.
Hopefully Egypt gets surprise next update. :mischief::mischief::mischief:

My work schedule got rearranged, so that fits me fine anyway. Might be Thursday Night /Friday Morning before I would have a completed turn posted.

1350 AD (3)
We recover Bangalore along with $140.
It expands our lines worse, but I capture Argus and $219.
I can't afford to declare on Egypt until I have a secure rail path around his cities. He has way too many troops floating around our exposed northern cities near Russia.
The Persian capitol of Atlay falls. I know have the territory to railroad around Egypt before the war starts.

Australia gets Silks for WM, $16 and $9/T.
(IT) Egypt and Russia sign peace. :(
Our RoP with Egypt ends.
No idea where the unit was, but we are auto-booted by Babylon.
Egypt tried to steal a tech from us. What a waste - I would rather get the cash as we take their cities.

1355 AD (4)
Island hopping continues and New Bangalore and $159 is ours.

I've been working on the railroad...
(IT) Persia lands troops by New Bangalore - LOL.

1360 AD (5)
It is a very quiet turn with healing to get ready to smack Egypt.
(IT) Egypt auto-boots us, so I know I can't have any troops in their territory. :)

To be continued. With the Egypt war next turn these are going to get long again.
Be vewy vewy quiet. I getting ready to hunt Egyptians. HeHeHe

1365 AD (6)
I give Australia refining for sanitation, incense, $59/T, wm and $80.
I hate small civs with resources. Coal, wines and silks aren't enough for gems from Venezuela. I have to give them sanitation to get them along with a token $110 back.
Steel is available, but I refuse to give up electronics.
I dial up Egypt, and inform them of the bad news - WAR :hammer:
New Alexandria is auto razed, and we get $75 for our trouble.
Oil city is formed.
Operation stack clear begins: I clear out stacks by Oil City, Ulaangom, and Hamadan.
Erdenet is captured along with $75. I grab 2 nearby workers.
Batshreet is captured along with $76, and 3 artillery. The stinking city has 3 resistors.

I send silks and wines to the Iroquois for ivory and $40/Turn.
(IT) A few Egyptian cavalry assault our cities and fail. We lost one isolated cavalry.

We have completed Hoover Dam.

To be continued...

1370 AD (7)
Lee's Leader Cavalry is formed. I see nothing useful to rush, so another army is formed.
I am now working on clearing a stack by Wineville.
Longbow killing Cavalry is formed. The elite* cavalry can start filling those armies.
I can't use another army right now, so Hovd gets a rushed factory. Once size 12 and railed this city will be a decent city.
Kazan is fur source, so it is razed. We get $129 and 3 workers. I need to deal with the nearby Egyptian cities before I can replace it.

Venezuela finally has some cash, so they get coal for WM, $11/T and $4.
Australia gets replaceable parts for $135/T and $30.
(IT) Russia and Persia sign a peace treaty. :(
Egypt kills 3 inf, and steals Hamadan from us.

1375 AD (8)
Tanis (island) is captured along with $0 and 4 workers.
Hamadan is recovered along with $99. However, a 1 HP musket ate two cavalry including an elite.
Tosontsengel is capture along with $100.
New Pi-Ramesses is auto razed for $101.
(IT) Germany declares war on Babylon and Russia. What is he smoking?
Our people want to build iron works in a corrupt city we got from India. LOL

1380 AD (9)
Furville is formed.
Baruun-Urt is captured with $186 gold.
A demonic 1 HP rifleman cost us two elite calvary.

Wines go to Australia for $24/T.
One thing that is getting frustrating is I can't find any AI with much cash.
(IT) We get another two more landings in Japan by Chinan. Why is the AI so focused on that city?
UNREAL - size 1, New Bangalore on the island flips back to India. :wallbash:

1385 AD (10)
I kill the two Egyptian rifles that tried to get cute by landing at Bombay.
New Beijing is formed.
I kill a lot of Egyptian units by Karachi. There is another wave coming in.
(IT) Brazil has left the game due to Venezuela.
Babylon and Egypt embargo us.
France turns on us. They've been broke, so I don't know how much that will hurt.
A large stack of Egyptian cavalry appear, and they capture Arbela. Both infantry went elite before dying. :(

1390 AD (11)
Borazjan (island) is razed. I refuse to deal with a size 9 city on an island.
I clean up the next wave of Egyptian units by Karachi.
Warrior Killer Cavalry builds another army.
Rifle Smashing Cavalry builds another army.
Ulaanbaatar is razed. Since it controls Saltpeter, I don't want to fool around. We gain 7 workers, and 3 artillery pieces!
Salt River is formed. Want to guess where?
Arbela is ours again along with $125.

Summary:
Now this is the major problem.

I checked the 1370 AD save, and the number was 71,341. In just 4 turns it went to 73,251. Egypt is getting to 100K *way* too fast. Do we have to sign a RoP with Babylon, and sent our armies into Africa in a mass razing campaign? If we can kill some early cities that will slow him down a lot.
I don't particularly like a RoP with Babylon as they are next logical target, but I'm not sure what else to do. I am open to ideas.

I really don't recall having this issue in the LK World Map games before.

There is a stack of cavalry hidden in the fog near Antioch on a mountain.

I left Todd 7 healthy armies fortified, so that he can decide where he wants them to hit.

The good news is we are down to 10 resistors. The only "problem" we have is lack of suppressing units as I got most of our conscripts / regulars promoted to vets. A few duds did die along the way.

The island hoping group should build a city with the settler under the army, then raze Dakyanus. From there we can deal with Jinjan and take over another island. We will want to deal with those Egypt cities on the island.

And the save.

I see that I'm up, but I believe I'm getting sick, so will not play tonite. I've been asleep for 5 hours, and just got up for a minute and checked the site. As long as I'm not REALLY sick, I will play tomorrow night, I have 2 days off work after tomorrow, and should be able to complete 8-12 turns in that time.

I agree that something has to be done about Egypt immediately, so unless I feel we're safe to capture (ie we can make quick progress) I will do raze/replace. Anyone wanting to make any suggestions, please feel free to do so now as I will not play for 24-36hrs.

We're going to need to keep an eye on Australia and Argentina eventually, as they will be harder to deal with quickly... Particularly Australia, as owners of an entirelandmass, they will atack any beachead force with everything they have.

My initial inclination is to Sign Russia to an alliance VS Egypt, which they will do for Silks, just to keep them off our back, and to get an RoP and Alliance with Babylon for some tech like Scientific Method. Egypt is going to take a while to Kill, so I don't think not being able to declare on Babylon for 20 turns is an issue, and I's REALLY not like them to declare on us with all or troops in Africa if we can help it... We'd probably be OK, but it'd be a headache.

OTOH Babylon does have Sun Tsu's, which could greatly speed up our progress... Not to mention save us a lot of GPT for Maint.

I agree that something has to be done about Egypt immediately, so unless I feel we're safe to capture (ie we can make quick progress) I will do raze/replace.
I was thinking the 7 armies do pure raze. Don't worry about replace. The goal is to take out his early cities that have culture buildings that have been around for ages. If Egypt has any wonder cities, they are in Africa. Abuse the fact that AI should ignore our armies. We will be exposed to major attacks in Africa if we try to keep / replace.

Once Egypt stacks are cleaned up in Asia, our troops can work on the cities we can reach in Asia. Those we can keep, and every city gets us closer to domination. You should hopefully see our border seal soon, as I rushed temples in several of border cities.

Don't forget we can chop workers / temples in those forest cities. I got that going in one of cities we got from Egypt right now.

Am I forgetting part of the 100K victory? I was looking over and old LK WM game, and I saw a mention of doubling the nearest civ. If that is true, then Egypt isn't as much of a threat.

I still wouldn't mind 20 turns of razing Egypt cities in Africa with our armies. ;)

And at this point, we are in "always fight" mode. I don't see more then one or two turns of pure peace at this point.

Ya, I believe you do need 2x the culture. Australia makes that safe (other high culture civs we are killing.

It means we can take out Babylon first if we wanted to which likely makes more sense.

Also trade for Steel. Electronics really isn't all that valuable anymore and can be traded. No point in doing it the slow way. Transports will allow us to have our full Armies attack islands and its only one tech past steel. We will also want to move towards getting to tanks I think.

Can somebody confirm the 100K rule that needs doubling the nearest civ? I am at work, and have no way to look it up.

It means we can take out Babylon first if we wanted to which likely makes more sense.
Babylon first makes a lot more sense in another turn or two after once we've cleared the last of Egypt's stack inside our territory. Plus Todd mentioned Sun Tzu. That is a free barracks in every city IIRC. That would really be huge for us.

IIRC to our west is a size 3 Babylon city that works nice as a choke point. That makes it easy to raze and replace the nearby Persia oil city. We can also take the small Babylon city near us (it may auto-raze).
Plus we can break into the Middle East with another block that is pretty much behind our lines once we can build Suez City.

If you look near our borders in Siberia there is a flood of high resource cities. I know I spotted rubber, more furs, and other goodies. We are very much in resource control mode at this point.
The nice push is from our silk city area. There is a large block of cities from Egypt, Babylon and Persia. More important is a ton of forest that can be chopped to speed up workers to end resistance / build temples. We don't have a lot of cash to work with, so that forest has become very valuable. We need to get true borders without any gaps now that rails are in play.
None of those cities will be killers, but every city helps at this point. Siberia will be a secondary goal, but it still has value.

With taking Indian and Persian home areas we've begun the domination push nicely. What is nice is some of those India cities will be productive. Most resistance in Persia is gone and some of those cities are extreme food. We may have cities with 4+ scientists in those. :)

None of this affects operation island hopper. I've left Todd the forces to finish off the island we have troops on, and multiple frigates / galleon are running along our coast to join them. Those islands are almost exclusively Persia, Egypt and India. It will be nice to fully eliminate some enemies.

Yes, for 100k you have to have both 100k and double the next highest culture. Australia's culture is now high enough that we're safe for a while (though it isn't going up all that quickly). I was worried earlier, when Egypt and India were the only civs with significant culture, but we are doing okay now. We do need to get to Egypt quickly, though.

Really, on a map this big, the culture limit should be higher - it is 160k for a huge map. There is some sort of bug in conquests that messes with the culture limit when you use non-standard tribe names (according to the HOF rules), but for a non-standard size, that probably isn't the issue.

Hey, I have an emergency trip to Chicago tomorrow to drop off paperwork that's gotten lost in the US mail somehow (sigh) so I will not start till Thursday night late and will likely finish on Sunday. Babylon first will be the strat. Egypt has the Pyramids in Thebes (which is odd, I could have sworn those were in Karkorum when it got razed... Thought I saw that mentioned...) and we are KEEPING that city. Since we have to starve down all these people, we really need the free graineries. DO NOT RAZE THEBES.

Babylon also has several wonders, including Bachs, Hanging Gardens, and Sun Tsu's, which will be helpful as we start growing our cities, so that's another reason to go for them first (not that we needed another reason)

(Kinda neat that Babylon has Hanging Gargens and Egypt the Pyramids on a world map...)

Just thought of this as I'm geting ready to leave for Chicago: If anyone objects to me making good friends with Russia, object now. While they do have the good military resources, they lack coal and iron, so that will hamper them, and we might need someone to buy off of and sell things to for a while yet, and they are the only leader that fits the bill. It's a bit of a drop off to Australia and Argentina, and it'll be a long while before they are a threat to launch. Not excited about them getting tanks, but I think they shouldn't be as scary with no rails, and we probably won't see tanks for the next 20 turns. We could re-think staying friends after Egypt's core goes bye bye.

I have no issues with Russia friendship. We have plenty of targets right now, and we could always increase naval production to have more invading fleets if land gets quite. We still have quite a few tiles in those islands alone to claim.
