LK157, CCM2 Maghreb

Civinator, thanks for posting the updated PediaIcons file :salute:

I'd like to hear from Greebley and TheRat before playing.

Are we all agreed on an immediate revolt to City State?

Also, once we're a City State, do we build Slaver's Hut or Harbor of Carthage first? I'm leaning towards Slaver's Hut for more chances at earlier guest workers. :)

I agree with that. We really need to improve the worker force. Early CCM always suffers from lack of workers.

Please revolt + slavers hut, a must imho

Maybe Slavers Hut before revolt. Would get us our first Enslaver 2 turns sooner, at the cost of 9 worker turns. :dunno:

I hope Greebley shows up soon...
I did try sending a PM his way.

Good to have you here, vmxa! :wavey:

Revolt now vs. in 9 turns:
Carthage gets Slaver's Hut in 11 instead of 9, grows in 10.
Utica gets Slavery in 13 instead of in 12, grows in 4 instead of 5 (based on MM)
Algiers gets Maghreb Symbol in 4 instead of 2, grows in 3.

Based on current levels, we'll gain 4gpt from better unit support. We'll further get an estimated 1gpt for 5 turns from Utica (plus another one on next growth) and 1gpt from Algiers for 6 turns and another 1gpt for 2 turns (second growth).

Total benefit: about 50 gold.
Total cost: 2-turn delay in getting our first Enslaver.

I'm inclined to revolt immediately. Any further thoughts?

My vote is now

Revolt sooner rather than later.
Carthage can pick up 1 extra gpt by working a coastal tile instead of non-bonus grass.

Revolution!
...oops. That gives us 2 entertainers in Carthage (which will shrink) and one in Utica (growing more slowly now). I didn't take that into account in my analysis :(

1660 BC:
Japan gets Pyramids
We are now a City-State!
1620 BC: We kill an Enslaver that showed up next to our Worker gang.
... oops again! City-State still has the tile penalty :( I missed that yesterday
I can put the lux slider to 0, gaining 4gpt.
Egypt creates Sphinx
1580 BC: We lose a Warrior attacking an Enslaver near Carthage :(
Enslaver attacks but retreats on the IBT
Screen goes white; Algiers now has 1 redlined defender.
1540 BC:
Dyes road completes
Scout destroyed
1500 BC:
Screen goes white
I can't tell what was attacked; none of our units lost hp.
1460 BC: Poland has Workers for sale, but they want all our money + half our gpt for one.
1340 BC, T60: We meet USA, who is at tech parity.

When doing a government change or another important step in the game, it´s always a good idea to have a look into the civilopedia:

City State:

The starting government Despotism:

So the main advantages of the government 'City State' compared to 'Despotism' are a worker rate of 100% compared to 50 % in Despotism - what is a lot - and paid labour as the hurry method. The word 'malus' in the civilopedia text will be replaced by a better suited word in the version for the public download.

Glad to see the iron city spot still looks open. Plus the roads are a bit closer.

I really don't want a GA under city-state with the tile penalty. My vote is to delay the harbor until Monarchy. We get a few less free ships. However, our empire should be larger. IMO it will be a much more effective GA.

This must be one of the rare occurrences...but to run a civ with merely warrior defenders, no offensive attackers, it's waiting for a disaster.

and for the record:

IT we get a new settler + America establishes an embassy

Turn 1 - 1300BC
upgrade settler

IT we get a new worker and warrior.

Turn 2 - 1260BC
Algiers starts walls, crucial defense really. Settler starts to move towards Iron city spot

IT An enslaver pops up next to our warrior/settler combo

Turn 3 - 1220BC
The capital finishes the slaver hut and starts the stable (takes 9 turns)
I manage to eliminate the threat, settler moves on towards destination [1-0]

IT Algiers borders expand, Lowlands finish the Great Lighthouse

Turn 4 - 1180BC
Construction and Riding are now for sale
one of our boats runs into India. They are down mysticism
Iron is connected while the settler moves onto its spot

IT Algiers loses a defending warrior to another invisible unit. We need better defenders [1-1]

Turn 5 - 1140BC
Utica finished the slavery, starts a proper defender
defeat the intruder getting an elite promotion for a warrior [2-1]

found Oran gaining us iron, starts the national symbol
Shuffle units around to threatened Algiers, employ a single scientist

IT Another invisible unit pops up next to Algiers and defeats the unit inside [2-2]
the city, but the city stands...
We are really running bare bones on units, this is scary. We don't have a single proper defender

Turn 6 - 1100BC
I am trying desperately to defend with warriors but there are simply too many enslavers
one of our ships enters Indian territory
a new technology, 'trade' has spread

Offering all we have including iron and our luxury gives a mere doubtful

IT It's the Poles, I suspect and they seem to have a few enslavers in front of our gates. We
lose another warrior and now have hardly anything left to defend. There is absolutely nothing I can do [2-3]
Nearby Hebron finishes Salomon's Temple

Turn 7 - 1060BC
Algiers at least has a wall now.

IT we lose another 2 warrior, fortified behind walls and the game is over [2-5]

From my own observation, the early game has gotten a lot tougher due to punishing governments. Deity AI will not suffer and hence, the player has a hard time to survive the start.

 - We get screwed because it took so long to trade for tech to build any decent units.
