Military - we need to restribute the troops some.
We have no defenders in Ulundi, Umfolozi, Herakleia.
I had a game where I was sneaked attacked by an ally for a empty city.
As a test, I reloaded the game - put a defender in the city - NO attack.
Empty cities invite war from the AI - avoid them if at all possible.

We are still "weak" vs. Egypt. This invites another possible war.
We have plenty of cash now - upgrade our VET hoplites to rifleman.
1.29 add total unit strength -going from a 1/3 unit to a 4/6 unit should help with our weak position.
At least one or two cities should squeeze in troops.

Workers - My one nit pick on the rail-net.
You build the right type of thin net, but I avoid coast as much as possible.
The AI loves to bombard coast with Ironclads, so I save coastal rails for last where there is a choice.

My standard complaint - Build more workers.
It was mentioned to start pumping out workers, but NONE built.
We have almost zero chance of buying more workers to fill in the gaps.
The rule to purchase workers - you must both have a city on the same continent
The only city we had was Nippur - undefendable vs. India and correctly abandonded.

With rails we want to get rid of forest - A grassland tile with mines is either 2 food, 2 shield or 2 food, 3 shield (if bonus). Forest is 1 food, 2 shield. We can gain more food, and maybe more shields by clearing out the forest.

1545 AD (0): Trade per LK, China:WM & Communisim for Elect. & 342 gold. Further diplocheck and we can get ivory from the Egyptian for coal, NO trades and Silk from India for iron, hold off for now.
Upgrade 4 VET hops to riflemen for 480 gold total. Few still remain in cities without barracks will move around the others next turn for more upgrades. Send riflemen to unprotected cities.

1550 AD (1); China cancelles the 6gpt for dyes trade, okay not a big loss. Egypt wants war with China for ROP. They throw in 158 gold, all they have and 8 gpt. I accept, China is the weakest and having Egypt as an allie at least for 20 turns will help us build some infastructure to deal with them later. Also sufferage is only 2 turns away. :smoke: maybe but it will be interesting.
Move some troups toward our only 2 ships, some vet cavalry, will add some new infantry soon after RP is learned and troups are upgraded, provided we have rubber.

1555 aD (2): Thess builds US, :) :) starts hospital only 2 turns. Learn RP, Change to AT, Big picture, set reasearch to 0%, +947 gpt. Upgrade four cannons for 320 gold. Upgrade a bunch of VET rifles to infantry, left the elite riflemen for possible GL later. We have 3 rubber :).

1560 AD (3): Heroic Epic in Corinth. Start Workers in 2 cities, move some workers around to cut trees and continue with RR. Upgrade a few more vets and move some infantry around. Use the gold to rush courthouse in Ngome for 192 gold and Swazi for 292 gold. Umtata for 168 gold. Bapedi for 208 gold. At zero research we still bring in 907 gpt.

1565 AD (4): IBTWN, India and China are at peace, Spart builds worker and starts Police station. Babedi builds court starts temple. Pharlos builds hospital starts worker. Ngome builds courthouse starts temple. Herakleia builds worker starts Hospital. Thess builds Hospital starts bank only 2 turns. Rhodes builds University starts Factory. Swazi courthouse starts Granary. Umtata builds courthouse, starts marketplace. Hurry courthouse in Pergamon for 300 gold. Hurry court in Intombe for 140 gold. MM Thess. to grow in 2.
Trade infantry and rifleman all around to upgrade almost all the remaining Vet rifles to infantry and not leave any city ungaurded. No events in the Chinese war. Will "turn back on" research. Question for Lee? We get ToE next turn is it better to research something you want to get for free or to research something else and hope you get what you want? I will see soon.

1570 AD (5): Halicarnassus builds temple starts courthouse. [party] ToE in Athens!!! :biggrin: We get Atomic Theory and from the long gone Babs we learned Physics "huh", start electronics. and learn electronics. Start Hospital in Athens the will rush it next turn and then start Hoover, right now Hoover is only 15 turns and we are the only ones even with the tech. Therm build hospital and starts worker.Pharlos builds worker and starts police station. Intombe finishes courthouse and starts Eretria builds hospital and starts worker. Pergamon builds court and starts temple. China got Englan involved in the war, they have a MPP and declare war.:(. Change Pharlos to a galleon.

1575 AD (6): Hlobane builds market starts factory. Zulu1 builds courthouse starts factory. Don't ask me how but Thess is building hoover, due in 9 turns. Turn back on research we have 1800 gold in the bank, at 50% we get corp in 4 with +254 gpt. More rifleman upgrades first troups land in china

1580 AD (7): Capture Chengdu, no loses. Some hospitals finish and start on cavalry and infantry for the battle with England and China.

1585 AD (8): Moving on to china city #2 Tientsin to the North. Hoover completes in 6 turns. Corporation in 2 turns with +264 gpt.

1590 AD (9): Continue toward Tientsin, defeat a lone longbow easily no leader.:(. Cut research to 10% +882 gpt for 1 turn.

1595 AD (10): Took Lagash(english), Took Tientsin from China. Set research to 50%, refining in 5 turns with +261 gpt. Troups are being built to head to china or to England. China will probably be quicker to take there are only 7 cities remaining and I believe us and Egypt are the only ones at war with them right now.

On the diplo front: Cleo is now Cautious and wants coal for ivory still or a bunch of gold. She lacks AT, and corrporation.

India lack AT and Corp as well, just bought a worker for 30 gold, Polite, will trade tech for silks.
Bizzy is polite and lack AT and corp.
China will accept peace but has nothing to give us and it will hurt our rep. They lack AT, corp and RP.
England won't even talk.

All cities are now connected on the rail line. Focused the last few turns on rails at Athens, after the hospital was built. Built a few worker spent lots of gold on upgrades to riflemen then to infantry. Each city should now have at least one vet infantry. The AI has RP now so they will be with infantry soon, if not already. Spent some gold too on a lot of courthouses in Zulu country.

With a thin rail net - disband a junk unit (regular hoplite for us).
You can rush the rest of the item without the double cost penalty.

You can get the item in 1 turn, not 2.
This can prove critical at higher levels, or in a tight race for a wonder.

The red squares are 3 UNDEVELOPED TILES - however, we are working the hill?
The red squares tiles should take priority.

We have a worker clearing forest in Tundra. We gain ZERO food or shields from mining Tudra.
Much better off using the worker for tiles with bigger benifit.

Most of our workers are working solo. We should use mass worker actions at this point.
Send enough workers to finish a square in one turn, and get the benifit now.

I find the same in Swazi, Intombe, etc. Spend the cash.

Who is the target? England or China? We same to have half committed to attacking both.
If you go to war - commit to one target and hit hard and fast.

1) Why do we have exposed workers in the blue zone?
The AI is over-focused on stealing workers.
These should be in a city.
REPEAT: Don't leave workers in the range of attacking units.

2) ONE galleon to move troops over? Ngome has culture, switch to galleon.
After that, we need a escort ship.

3) Yellow zone - defending cavalry? If you need a holding zone - black square.
Give them a defensive edge

4) QUESTION for hotrod0823:
What are we after in the China attack?
We have 2 coal before taking the coal.
Beijing would have been harder to take, but it would secure a permanent source of furs.

The reason Thess is able to build Hoover is because it has a river in the city radius.

The city doesn't have to be on a river. Just has to have a river in it's 21 tile workable radius. I wasn't aware of this either. So I downloaded your game to see what was up. Sure enough it didn't make sense to me either until I read the civlopedia.

As far as the missed upgrades it got very very difficult to keep track of the units that were being upgraded because of the need to swap units to cities with barracks and having already upped units sent back to those same cities. These turns took a very long time.

On the China side I was looking at what cities were the easiest to take and shyed away from the capital. With England it was more of a miss calculation on the artillary. I didn't realize that the cavalry coming off the ship use all there movement and couldn't attack so I was forced to use the infantry to take to last spear leaving the artillary exposed.

A trick to find the last units to upgrade. Bring up the military advisor by unit type. You can doube click on the rifleman, which will bring the game to his location. I use this all the time to find the last straggle units to upgrade.

Once rails have arrive, you need to review cities.
You can often mine spaces and gain more shields.
This city gives 36 shields. A couple more mines could cross 40 usefull shields - an artillery every 2 turns.
This little things add up.

Summary: The Leader Hector is fortified in Athens. The Galleon & Ironclad near Bombay were heading to unlad near Chittagong, for suport in the attack on Ur. There are 4 Cavalry, 1 Infantry, & 1 Artillery near Liverpool that were heading to Ur to capture it. This will give us a source of Spices, and deny the Germans another Oil source. The Galleon near Mycenae were heading towards Bangalore to try and get that city to give us Silks. Lagash should have it's Harbor rushed to reconnect it to our trade network. Then the Entertainers could be put back to work. The Settler is in place to found a city where Shanghai used to be to clain the Rubber there.

Diplomatic Status: - We are allied with India against Germany (17 turns left)
- We have ROP's with India (10 turns) & England (18 turns)
- England & Egypt are still at war.

How are we doing for war weariness? Should we mobilize? Maybe we should declare war with more people to increase our peace options. It can really help with war weariness, and it's not like we really care about rep at this point.


Are we hoping to take the shortest path to domination/conquest? I think we can win anyway but diplomatically at this point. How about trying for cultural?

We won't achieve 100000 culture until 2017!
The culture histograph clearly shows Egypt ahead - forget culture win.
I agree - forget Diplomatic.

Win will be either Space or Domination.
Mapstat shows we have 698 of the needed 1604 tiles.
Domination is possible, but isn't close yet.
With the size of Egypt - we almost have to take some of Egypt for domination.
