LK46, Monarch, 1.21 patch, lazy France variant

IHT: Buy Chemistry from the Vikings for Horses, WM and 500 gold. Sell Chemistry to the Babs for Astronomy, WM and 17 gold. Sell Chemistry to the English for Music Theory, WM and 78 gold. Fire a couple of entertainers now that we are at peace.

960 AD (1) The people expand the palace. Roman troops leaving our territory.

970 AD (2) Toulouse aqueduct - barracks. Marseilles aqueduct - bank

980 AD (3) Paris pike - bank. Lyons knight - bank

990 AD (4) Brest aqueduct - market. Diplo check reveal no new techs. We could send our gems to the Russians but I don't want their research speeded up and they look like the biggest threat to me.

1000 AD (5) Amiens marketplace -granary. Poitiers harbor - aqueduct. Science reset to 20% for Economics next turn.

1010 AD (6) Toulouse barracks - knight. Bordeaux temple - harbor. Economics comes in, Prinitng Press ordered. The worker speed boost from Democracy should be worth revolting for IMO. Orléans switched to Smith's, due in 26.

1020 AD (7) Toledo courthouse - temple. The Russians are building Smith's too ? And so do the English. I'm not going to sell it to anyone else though as no-one has anything much to offer.

1030 AD (8) Tours knight - bank. Rome has a worker for sale, bought for 130 gold. Send Economics and 50 gold to the Babs for Navigation.

1040 AD (9) 3 Knights built. Saltpeter comes online.

1050 AD (10) Hurry the temple in Narbonne. English, Russians and Ottomans have metallurgy.

1050 AD (0): With PP due in 3 turns I hold off on any Metallurgy trades. Russia, like Jack said, will give up gold for gems but I see no reason for that now. We can hit England now but we have zero units in there area and our Jungle cities are poorly defended. Will work on getting at least some pikes up there. :hmm: see that we have salt but havent' built a single Musketter? Holding out for a Democracy GA I pressume.

1060 AD (1): England cancelles the gems for ivory deal. We reup but it costs us 240 gold and maps but I can leave the lux at 10%. Narbonne builds a temple starts a courthouse. Amiens builds a granary starts a bank. Rome started Cop's. Moving some workers to the jungle. Research to 30% to get PP in 2 turns +87 gpt. Nantes rioted an gets a taxman.

1070 AD (2): PP due next turn at 20%, +138 gpt. Continue moving workers north. Trying to get some pikes to the jungle as well.

1080 aD (3): Learn Printing Press start on Democracy due in 9 turns at 50% running -12gpt. Trade PP to Russia for 28gpt, 70 gold and WM . Trade PP to England for WM, 11gpt, and 70 gold. Being that the Vikes are zero threat I trade PP, Econ, and Navigation for Metallurgy. We are now up to +27gpt and Democracy in 9 turns. The entire world is broke.

1090 AD (4): Rennes builds a temple starts a harbor. MM Orleans to get Smith's in 14. Move some workers around. Still holding off the pike upgrades.

1100 AD (5): Change Rouen from a knight to a cathedral, next turn it will need a taxman.

1110 AD (6): Paris builds a bank starts a cathedral. Vikes start Magellans and Smiths. Only 4 turns of Peace remain with the Romans.

1120 AD (7): Lyons builds a bank starts a library. England starts smiths. Avignon builds knight starts bank. Bayonne builds a knight starts granary. England now has MT and Physics. As does Russia but Vikes only have Physics. Buy MT from Russia for 780 gold, Gems and WM. MT, 65 gold and WM get Physics from the Vikes. Upgrade 13 knights to Cavs, 10 others remain to be upgraded.

1130 AD (8): Marseilles builds a bank starts granary. Rethink the cathedral in Paris and change to settler, we will need a few after war and our "Campaign to get Workers" ie Razes continues against Rome. Change Chartres to a settler.

1140 AD (9): Brest builds market starts a Courthouse. Paris builds a settler starts another. There is a stack of 15 cavs ready to strick Rome in the North.

1150 AD (10): Dijon builds Market starts duct. Ottomans complete Cop's Democracy is due in 2 turns and we can take Rome now but research can be turned down take Rome then revolt to democracy after the war is over or fight during our anarchy period and kick the GA with Musketters. I will leave that up to Mystery.

Here is the save:

One more thing there are something like 7 or 8 turns left on Smith's we have a real shot at it and should wait to revolt until then anyway so it may be best to turn research down to get the income now or get the tech but do not revolt until Smiths is done. There are no techs available for trade now.

Hotrod

I would NOT revolt to Democracy. The War Weariness from Democracy is positively brutal. It isn't worth several turns of anarchy in a game the will most likely be a military win.

I am not sure why we haven't built any Musketeers. We do want to trip our GA. There is no reason to hold off.

Remember 10 turns per round - STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 to complete.

I was wondering why we chose the Democracy path...I definitely will not revolt to it in a mostly military game. I only Hope we can trade it up the Magnetism/TOG path.

My bad on the Democracy path.... but I figured that with our shortage of workers, we could very much use the worker speed boast, particularly when railroads come along.
If we get Democracy first though we should make out like bandits on selling it around - the AI loves government techs.

The comments makes sense and would be great if we were religous.

However, I expect constant fighting in this game to acquire more help. The only think that has spare England so far is the jungle. If we connect the northern cities, then maybe we can switch back and forth between England and Rome. :satan:

I suspect Rome will not last this war we should have a large enough number of cavs to RAZE most if not all his cities. Add a GA to it and it will be no problem.

I was surprised by the lack of Musketters but honestly after reading Jacks comments thought that a democracy GA was the reason. I think Democracy will get us the other techs at least and can be sold for gpt. effectively slowing Russian and English tech pace.

I think we would best take England by boats and avoid the jungle altogether.

Please make that RAZE most of his cities.
We can build more settlers.
We can't build more workers.

We really need any excuse possible to get more workers and get our core cities up to speed.

Preturn...I change Rheims to a settler due in 3...Grenoble to
a settler due in 1.

Continuing Hotrod's turn, I declare war on Rome and we take
Lugdunum...yes, take. Size two fishing village with two workers
out front. I doubt razing it would give more. We raze Lutetia.
Total worker gain so far...6! We raze Byzantium and get 3 more
workers. 9 now. No losses and just one retreat so far. Lot's of
units scattered near Viroconium though, that I must clean up
before moving further. we clean up some units then raze Viro...
amazingly fine rolls so far. 12 workers gained. 3 cities razed.
One city taken. 4 weak Roman units remain behind the lines.

IT Babs now want 30gpt for their Incense, up 2gpt. Rome kills off
2 Med Inf that I left in the open (I didn't realize that 2/3 of their
movement had been used up). A cav withstands two Roman archers and
a spear...from a Mountain!

(1)1160AD No mercy now, we raze Syracuse. +3 workers for +15.
We take my first offensive loss, cav against knight in the open.
Democracy in 1 so I can back off science a bit.

IT We lose one Cav to counterattack. Most Roman units concentrated
to the North. We get Democracy, go for TOG due in 9.

(2)1170AD We raze Ravenna with one loss. +4 workers for +19.
Just one Pike left in Brundisium and it is dispatched without loss.
+2 workers for +21. We fall back a bit to let our wounded heal.
Rome down to 6 cities.

IT War Weariness hits in 5 cities, but not our Wonder city Orleans.

(3)1180AD We take Tarantum, a well placed size 2 city that doesn't
figure to give us many workers.

IT The Vikes figure their world map is worth ours plus Democracy...
I laugh in their general direction.

(4)1190AD Just shuffling the troops and settling the now unclaimed
areas.

(5)1200AD Still shuffling and healing. No new techs for sale yet.

(6)1210AD Our now fresh troops take Cumae and that pushes Rome to
the East Coast. +4 workers for +25. We upgrade a Pike to Muskateer
and I'll send him to the front for an easy kill at the end of the
war. We raze Pompeii with no loss for +5 workers. Now +30 for the
Roman ambush. We get three more workers on a hill and are now +33.

IT No Roman counter and we should be ready to eliminate them.

(7)1220AD Massing for the attack on Veii.

IT Unbelievably, we get Smith's! That's a huge help for us! We
get about +40gpt for it and now can back off a science, still get
TOG in 3 but at +143gpt.

(8)1230AD Seven cav into Veii, it's the capital so may not be
enough...wow, only three Pike defenders. We lose one cav but
raze Veii. +3 workers for +36. We can't fill the with settlers
fast enough:)

IT I see an English settler pair on the way but I started filling
from the North so they have a long way to travel.

(9)1240AD Readying for the new Roman capital of Neapolis.

IT War weariness hits us bad, but we're so close. I'll up lux
for a few turns. Lux temporarily to 30% with an entertainer only
in Nantes. WW at 38% now so we'd better finish off Rome before
the next wave hits.

(10)1250AD My only slightly bad outcome as we lose two cav taking
Neapolis...but it is razed. +3 workers for +39. Well crap, just
this last interturn the world went crazy. Everyone now has TOG, 1
turn before us...and, somehow, Democracy. I tell you, the world was
completely broke my entire reign so this is just bad luck. Oh well.
I was so upset I left three cannons in the open. Crap again. Still,
Rome hasn't had a knight in quite some time so I think they are safe.

The Muskateer is still three turns away from battle. If war weariness
will cooperate, we could knock Hispalis down and wait for him to get
there. A GA with Rome dead would be perfect. Many settlers on the
way but many more needed. I had to slow down to build some defense
for the new cities.

39 workers Lee, hope that puts a smile on your face:)

All I can say is - Ouch! Please use scroll ahead or even governor for moods in the future. This is a whole turn of production wasted.

Yes, I know. I was so excited beating the crap out of Rome that I didn't check moods for 1 turn, the turn war weariness went up. Then, due to it being about 1 am, the fuzzy brain forgot about scroll ahead. Big time goof.
