Despot, I've got a couple of workers mining near the South Roman border. They just started last turn but the city is probably too far away to even get two shields. May want to cancel the mine and move them back toward the core.

I got a chance to look at the save.

I agree with Mystery13 and that the 2 workers my Toledo won't accomplish anything.

Our major problem - where is the FP going?
It is 450AD and we haven't started it yet!
I have already had it finished is some of my games at this time frame.

Despot, please get the fp started somewhere. I think Toulouse with a rushed courthouse looks good.

Before any Roman war, please get more troops to Santiago our *ONLY* iron source.

Lee, you'll have the pleasure of starting the FP and getting us some Roman labor as I will not be able to play the game. I am going to be really tied up this week so if it reaches me again before next Saturday please skip me again. Sorry about it.

450 AD (pre-turn) - Just some city mm such as why have 11 shields for a city building 30 shield units. I squeeze a little more commerce that way.

500 AD - Time to begin the war. I still don't know if we are strong enough, but we must put a dent in Rome to get any more workers.
We kill the one settler pair and gain 2 workers.
Rennes is formed in a jungle-infested area.
(I) I don't see any Roman troops come our way?

520 AD - I am marching on the city of Antium, as I see almost no Roman troops!

530 AD - Well Rome is in a golden age, so this will be a very short war.
The silly AI moves a worker by our stack an Antium, so we gain another worker.
Well will kill of few units, but a damaged spearman is alive in Antium.
The RnG was plain cruel for loss ration. I suspect this will be a 5-turn war.

540 AD - Well this time Antium falls and is razed. We get one lousy worker, but I will take it.
(I) The Great Library still works and we receive Monotheism and Invention.

Summary:
I am not sure how much more we can gain get from Rome. I did get 4 workers, and razed a first ring Roman town.
If Jack wants another push vs. Rome the troops are building in Toledo.

IHT No changes

IT An elite legionary shows up near Toledo.

560 AD (1) A cat takes off 1hp off an archer on a mountain near Amiens but the archer still eats 6 hp off of our attacking horses (no losses though) before dying. I discover a worker near Poitiers that is improving a square that cannnot be used by any city. Errare humanum est.

Our forces look powerful enough to continue this war so I'll see about weakening the Romans further.

570 AD (2) Kill 2 Roman archers, an MDI, a spear and a legionary without losses.

580 AD (3) Paris riots :smoke: I hire an entertainer and switch it to a market. We raze Pisae at the cost of one horse - score 2 more workers. I hurry settlers in Toledo and Bayonne for 130 gold total to fill in the conquered territory. The weaker Rome becomes the better.

IT I have to give the Vikings monotheism to keep their spices. The Romans show up with a minor SOD near Viroconium - 3 MDI, a legion and some archers. A horse dies and 2 retreat trying to take out the legion

590 AD (4) Settlers head out

600 AD (5) Roman SOD infiltrates near Amiens. We kill a legion and 2 Roman MDI, an archer and a warrior. I put a horse next to Rome to hopefully get them to move their workers inside so we can grab those with peace.
WW hits and Paris riots again - scroll-ahead prevents Orleans from rioting too. Luxes go to 20% but peace will come soon. I wish the English would get around to building a harbour somewhere so we could trade for their ivory.
Nantes is founded on the former site of Antium.

IT Roman MDI retreat the horse next to Rome - the Romans don't have workers to offer for peace.

610 AD (6) Kill assorted Roman troops and do a bit of leaderfishing to no avail. We sign peace with the Romans for Palmyra and Jerusalem (on the landbridge to England) and 6 gold - the Romans have no gpt to offer. It turns out that there are 4 workers nearby, we'll want those later.

620 AD (7) Luxes go down to 10% and I hurry the market in Paris for 144 gold. The English have gotten around to building a harbour but we do not need their luxes yet. Hurry a spear in Palmyra - a spear from Strasbourg is on its way to guard Jerusalem.

630 AD (8) Paris market - temple. I hurry the temple in Nantes just in case. Also hurry a temple in Jerusalem. Our culture isn't great but Roman culture is pathetic as usual, so we may be able to flip Byzantium.

IT Spot 2 Roman settler pairs - pity they didn't get around to sending those earlier.

640 AD (9) Narbonne founded on the former site of Pisae.

650 AD (10) Hurry a temple in Strasbourg for 108 gold. Paris grows and needs an entertainer again - it's the only city that we would need higher luxes for. Alternatively, we can buy luxes from the English or the Romans - preferably the English, as the Romans have a big red bull's eye painted upon them when the peace treaty expires. I'll leave that up to Hotrod though :)

Romans have a big red bull's eye painted upon them when the peace treaty expires.

I couldn't agree more with that statement. They only gave you two more lousy workers. Of course the two cities sound near our future fp site. :D

The next war should hopefully include a nice stack of knights :flamedevi:

650 AD (0): Change Paris entertainer to a scientist. Bordeaux gets a lone entertainer. England gets invention for ivory and 14 gold.

660 AD (1): Toulouse builds a courhouse starts a marketplace. Strasbourg builds a temple starts a library. Hurry a couple marketplaces for 104 gold total.

670 AD (2): GL kicked out Theology. Tours builds market starts a horsey. Rouen builds a market starts a Library. The GL won't last forever. Cherbourg builds a market starts duct. Rome starts on Leo's. Russia - Sistenes. As do the Vikes. Hurry Duct in Orleans for 120 gold.

680 AD (3): Orleans builds duct starts marketplace. Chartres build granary starts library. Besancon builds a duct starts a market.

690 AD (4): Paris build a temple starts a pike. nothing else doing.

700 AD (5): Upgrade a spear.

710 AD (6): England has Chivalry :satan:! should be coming soon! Yep so does Russia and the vikings, Babs and Ottomans.

720 AD (7): We learn Chivalry. Marseilles builds market starts pike. Brest Riots :smoke:, our lame worker haven't reached the east yet. Babs start Sistine. :wallbash: Ottomans completed SunZu , WE were 4 turns away. Change to Leonardo's I will hold out on our upgrades. Paris pike starts another.

730 aD (8): zzzz Cascades all change to leos or Sistenes.

740 AD (9): A few units shuffles, nothing else.

750 AD (10): Avignon builds a granary starts a cat. Bayonne builds a market starts a duct. Marseille and Paris build pikes start a couple more. Hurry barracks in Nantes in prep for Leo's. Moving a few horses back to Orleans for a future upgrade. Leo's is ours next turn. The FP is due in 5 more turns. Currently we have 2785 gold and +135 gpt. A few new markets came on line and increased our income.

Preturn, nothing to change.

IT We get Leonardo's, switch to Aqueduct. Everyone building Sistine's.
Our Forbidden Palace seems a bit close...I sure would like it a bit
deeper into Roman territory but it's a bit late for that now.

(1)760AD Cheaper Knights are great! We upgrade 7 horsies for 280g.

(2)770AD not much

IT We get Education...and Gunpowder! We appear to have plenty of
Saltpeter, but I'm inclined to stay with building Pikes for less
shields and paying to upgrade to Musket where needed later.

(3)780AD Our spice deal ran out, and Scandinavia wants horses now. I don't see
how this can hurt us in the short run, but I prefer to give them
money...450 gold instead...actually, forget it. Only Paris needs
to hire an entertainer, and for now that does not affect its growth
rate or shield output. To be revisited after the Forbidden Palace
comes online...Oh, and I switched us to Banking and turned on Science.
Banking in 15 at +gpt seems prudent for a commercial society.

(4)790AD not much

IT Forbidden Palace comes online...gpt jumps from 23 to 36 gpt while
Banking drops two turns.

(5)800AD nothing doing

IT Babylon builds the Sistine Chapel...I still wonder if this would
have been a better build for us...needs someone to calculate the
gold savings for each with our no native worker variant in mind.

(6)810AD Just trying to upgrade all of our units...very tough since
they are scattered all over the place and we have a lack of Barracks
due to hoping for Sun Tzu!!!

IT Two totally corrupt cities riot on me...no great loss timewise
really so I just hire an entertainer for them. Both will starve but
the no worker variant doesn't allow the worker peel off. Man, some-
times this can be a bit of a bummer.

(7-9)820-840AD zzzz.....

(10)850AD Gems + 250 gold to England for Ivory. I hope this is the
last time, but we cannot trade with most of the other continent yet
(no Astronomy) and we need some extra lux. We can take out Rome soon
and that should give us time to mass our forces for England...actually,
our peace deal is over with Rome and all offensive forces have full
movement for the next leader to deal with.

850 AD (pre-turn) - I swap Paris to settler as some new land may open up shortly. :flamedevi:

870 AD (I) - Gee, the Russian from the other continent demand money. I tell Cathy to show it and she wimps out.

880 AD - Well let's repeat my last round and declare war on Rome. We capture one worker and kill one archer.

890 AD - Caesarea is razed and all Roman cities will be.
(I) - A big ouch round as Rome eats our troops near Byzantium.

900 AD (I) - We get hit with war weariness already?

920 AD - We have to burn $28 a turn to get incense from Babylon.
Well I get some good news as Rome is burned to the ground. We get five workers with the Challenge to get them home.

940 AD - Rome has a decent stack heading toward Amiens, so I have to choice to but cash rush several knights and hope the arrive it time. Rome *WILL* talk peace if we need to panic to save Amiens.

950 AD - New Paris is formed in all that wonderful jungle.
Longbow and archer vs. 2 pikeman is to close for my taste.
I dial up Rome and take a new wm and $4 for peace.

Summary: Not as much as I would have liked, but we got a site for new Paris that someday will let us connect to our other jungle cities. I got a few more workers, but not as many as I wanted.
Now having Rome getting razed had to hurt the Romans. ;)

Got it.

6 workers is still a nice score - we're getting there slowly but surely. I may go beat up on the English now.

We have a lux deal going with the English until near the end of your turn...I didn't want to do it but we needed it at the time. We should have banking now and that may allow our bigger cities to stay happy with one less lux.
