LK47 - Open SG - 1.21 patch, emperor, 2CC conquest, China

Preturn 1250 BC -
We need to enslave some fine German workers because there is a lot of jungle to be chopped down!!

IBT -
Athens, Greece has completed The Oracle.

Turn 1 1225 BC -
MM Beijing so it can pump out a horse every 3 turns.
Greece and Korea both have Literature. Korea won't sell it, but Greece will for 12 GP and 5 gpt which will pretty much break us so I hold off a bit hoping they sell it to Carthage and devaluate it. Then I will rush GL.

Turn 2 1200 BC -
Begin moving a stack of horses towards Hamburg.

Turn 3 1175 BC -
Nothing

I was right Carthage now has Lit and the price has gone down a bit to 14 gp and 4 gpt so I trade for it with Carthage. Will rush GL next turn after horse is complete.
Trade Lit to Korea for 32 GP and TM.

Carthage still has a monopoly on CoL. Both Carthage and Arabs have Mathematics.

Turn 4 1150 BC -
Rush GL in Beijing.

IBT -
The GL is built in Beijing.

Turn 5 1125 BC -
4/4 Horse attacks 3/3 German spears. Horse dies and spears promotes 2/4.
4/4 Horse attacks 2/4 spear and wins goes to 2/4.
5/5 Horse attacks 4/4 archer and wins redlining in the process, but manages to grab two slaves to work in the Chinese jungles.

Battle for Hamburg
5/5 Horse attacks and kills 4/4 spear redlining in the process.
The People's Horseman (5/5) attacks and kills 3/3 spear redlining and razing Hamburg...also taking another slave to the jungles!

Greece, Carthage, and Germany all have CoL. Germany will give peace for CoL, 3 GP, and WM but we will be getting CoL from the GL anyways so onward with the war!

IBT -
the GL teaches us CoL and Math

Turn 6 1100 BC -
Nothing

Turn 7 1075 BC -
4/4 Horse takes out a 3/3 archer and goes 3/4.

IBT -
We lost a vet horse to a german horse which is now 2/4
GL teaches us Philosophy.

Turn 8 1050 BC -
Nothing

IBT -
Shanghai's borders expand bringing in the dye.

Turn 9 1025 BC -
Nothing

Turn 10 1000 BC -
Nothing much started roading in the spices.

We are building up a pile of troops outside the German border. We have 3 Elite Horsies, 3 Vet Horsies, 1 Elite Spear in the group outside Germany. Two more Vet Horsies coming next turn. Poly will be ready in 3 which I suggest we trade to Greece since they are the only ones with any GP, of course, unless they have it by then.

I think after we destroy Germany unless someone declares on us the Greeks should be the next on our list. However, we need to hit them hard and quick doing as much damage as possible. Doing that hopefully we can eliminate our only threat from the south and limit the chances of a two front war later. We might need to wait until we have riders for this since they have hoplites...either that or an extremely overwhelming force of horses.

The main power houses are Carthage, Arabs, and Greece. Korea is really nothing. Carthage and Korea are polite with us. Arabs and Greece are annoyed. If we do have a two front war at some point we should try to bring Carthage in on our side if possible.

So who shall rule China next?

China is beginning to wipe out the world, and the German stalemate is clearly over.

LK47

1000 BC (0): Survey the scene and agree with despot Greece needs to be beat back a bit but first things first lets take out Bizzy. Continue exactly as despot left it. We need a few more slave to get to clearing that jungle.

IBTW: That was fast Alex is itching to attack and already annoyed. Having seen what happens when you refuse tribute, I pay him 21 gold and TM.

975 BC (1): Beijing builds horsey as does Shanghi. Bejing starts another. Shanghi starts spear for defence against possible Greek attack. Each city only has 1 spear. If war starts to the south we are in big trouble. Add the elites to the stack and will move them into Germany next turn.

950 BC (2): Move the stack into German territory and kill 1/2 archers don't want to expose a horse in the open so let the reg archer live. The stack is now. 3 vet horses, 3 eites and an elite spear with 2 more vets pulling up the rear.

Germany counters with a horse who retreats doing no damage.

925 BC (3): Poly comes in start on Monarchy. Workers connected spice but can't lower lux until we get some temples or another lux. MOve workers toward Shangahi to start on the jungle. Shanghai has no more good tiles available and Beijing will not need more until 26 more turns. Hmm! Looks like the GL would've popped Poly this turn. Arabia and Greece each have it and traded gold. Sell to Carthage for 20 gold and WM. At least I get it instead of Arabia. Shut research off gains only an additional 2 gpt so I leave it at minimum on Monarchy although I think it will come in sooner from the GL than 40 turns. With 6 horses move in to attack berlin.

Lose 2 vet horses another promotes. Kill 3 spears and the final wounded spear still stands :wallbash:!

900 BC (4): Attack and raze the Capital of Berlin killing a spear and a horsey. Only 3 horsemen remain from the original 6 and 2 are at 1/5. Germany is down to 2 size 1 cities. And we got another slave. A horse attacks the roaming reg archer and dies. A wounded horse retreats to the north. Germany must be feeling the pressure he will give up Frankfurt for peace . Lucky for him our horses need to rest and regroup.

875 BC (5): Carthage and Korea are sending settler to old German territory. Contemplate making the Koreans move but decide to allow them to pass through for now. There is a settler just waiting to be snagged. The lone healthy horse 4/5 kills the wayward German archer. Shanghai builds a spear starts archer. Horsemen cost more and we need more units now.

850 BC (6): Units are healing another horse joins the stack.

825 BC (7): Units are close. Sending worker home. Beijing completes horsemen starts another.

800 BC (8): Move stack intoward Kongisberg it will fall next turn. Carthage settler snuck around our horses and is now near where Berlin used to be.

775 BC (9): Raze Konigsberg losing a 4/5 elite to a regular spear. Gain 2 new "workers". Sending them home. Shanghai builds archer starts another. Begin a chop at Bejing to help build a much needed temple that will start after the horsey completes next turn.

750 BC (10): Carthage plunks down a city near the old German capital ruins. The attitudes toward us are not great. Guess they don't like us razing Bizzy to the ground. The stack is outside of the final German town.

Nothing new on techs. Koreans are behind the rest are on par.

Here is the save:

Preturn: I nix research. I don’t think it’s worth wasting 10% of our money on something we’re going to get for free. Damn we have a lot of catching up to do with workers. Both of our cities have nearly stopped growing. I switch Shanghai to a swordsman. 10 shields for an extra attack and an extra defense is definitely worth it. I also switch Beijing to a swordsman.

730 BC (1): Jungle clearing by Shanghai reveals regular grass.

710 BC (2): ….

690 BC (3): Beijing swordsman->swordsman.

670 BC (4): Our horse stack outside Frankfurt is still healing up. I want all horses full health because I don’t know if there’s enough of them and there’s no reinforcements coming.

650 BC (5): Shanghai swordsman->worker. We really need to get these cities improved. We can rejoin native workers when we’re in better shape.
Ok time to attack Frankfurt. :crosses his fingers: I attack with elite first. Damn they have an elite spear in there.
5/5 horseman attacks 5/5 spear and retreats dealing no damage
4/4 horseman attacks 5/5 spear and retreats dealing 1 damage
4/4 horseman attacks 4/5 spear and retreats doing 2 damage
4/4 horseman attacks 3/3 spear and wins, promoting to 5/5.
Just the elite remains at 2/5. Hopefully they don’t have a barracks and our 5/5 can finish him off next turn.

630 BC (6): Beijing swordsman->worker.
Ok they don’t have a barracks. The German spearman is up to 4/5 now.
5/5 horseman attacks 4/5 spearman and wins with 1/5 left! We capture 2 more slaves and the Germans are destroyed. 1 civ down, 4 to go.

IT: Our Prophets master the secret of Currency and Construction. Athens completes the Pyramids.

610 BC (7): Shanghai worker->marketplace. Beijing worker->marketplace. Max cities for growth rather than production. I think we can afford a short period of peace to make our cities stronger, we’ve been at war from the start.

IT: Carthage completes the Great Wall.

590 BC (8): ….

570 BC (9): Worker finishes forest chop at Beijing and reveals regular grassland.

IT: I’m having a really hard time getting my troops back from German lands. The AI’s are forcing me to leave their territory immediately every time. They don’t even give me the 1 turn grace period they usually do.

550 BC (10): Blah workers finish clearing jungle at Shanghai and we get yet another regular grassland.

Ok, uneventful turns for the most part. I suggest building up our cities a bit more before attacking Greece with MDI’s and pikemen. Expect them to have a LOT of hoplites.

LK47-550BC.SAV

OK - it's been a while, so I got it.

550 BC (Pre-turn) - It is a different world since I have last been here. It went from Germany stalemate to no Germany. :)

530 BC - I am having the same problem getting our troops home the Shillen did.
I sell Korea poly for $15 and wm. I really want that updated wm.
Be very glad that Shanghai is a coastal city, as there are 2 annoying cities on an island.

470 BC - I establish the missing embassies. The interesting thing is that Athens is only defended by 3 hoplites. I would have expected more.

430 BC - Carthage has the gall to demand $28. I was very tempted to say shove it, but we really need MI to deal with his uu. Plus I had several workers near his borders.

350 BC - I get a shock as clearing jungle reveals a bonus grassland tile.

Summary:
I want to get temple and cathedral (when available). After that, we are done with improvements and back to 100% military production.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/LK47-350BC.zip

Variant Rules:
We may only every have 2 cities - period.
We can't accept cities in peace.
If we capture a city by accident, we must immediately disband it.

Remember 10 turns per round - Post a got it, and complete your turn within 24 hours
We are playing with the 1.21 patch

OK - What wants China next?

Should be another quite set of turns while building up to nail Greece.

<Sigh>
I wish I had the time this morning Lee. I would love to play but alas, I have to much going on. If no one has grabbed it by this evening or if it's back (hopefully the latter) maybe I will grab it then.
Looks like a fun game. :goodjob:

(IT) 350BC: Ok this is a real short straw when going for a variant conquest victory: to be sandwiched between Carthage AND Greece.

Hmm...why are our two cities so small? They have to be much bigger than this to get enough production, I'm going to merge some workers in.

(1) 330BC: German workers are good for merging in, since Germany isn't around anymore. Beijing gets two merged in, and Shanghai one.

Ok Carthage has two workers out in the open, and a settler guarded by a Numid. This is too tempting.

War is declared. Our elite horse slaughters their regular numid, and we get two free workers. Then we capture two more who are out in the open.

(2) 310BC: No counter from Carthage. I put our new workers to work.

(3) 290BC: More workers are merged into Beijing just as it finishes its temple, and it's up to 15spt, meaning it can get a horse or sword every other turn. A Greek hoplite/settler pair starts wandering through our territory. I send a settler/horse pair into Carthaginian territory to do some nice pillaging.

(4) 270BC: A regular Carthaginian sword comes and kills our elite spear, defending in jungle. Ok, end of that pillaging expedition. We kill the sword though.

(5) 250BC: Korea has just a few too many unprotected workers (3) wandering by to be ignored. The workers are captured.

(6) 230BC: Shanghai market -> temple. Our elite horseman who just captured the Korean workers gets tempted by the sight of a Carthaginian worker and ventures into their territory to capture him too. Hopefully he'll survive...

We also have a horse interested in attacking an Arab warrior/settler pair next turn.

(7) 210BC: We get Monarchy and Monotheism from the Library. I'm thinking we might want to go into Republic despite all the wars, since they're oscillating, so I don't revolt. I'm really not sure about that though, with the unit costs and all.

Beijing -> Cathedral.

(8) 190BC: Carthage does kill one of our horses. I have another horse trying to get at their iron and horses.

(9) 170BC: Hmm...ok Carthage killed our other horse. I'm thinking that these sorties will be much more effective when our horses turn into riders.

Carthage will talk but won't take straight peace. Ugh. We lose a sword getting rid of a Korean spear out of our territory. The unit count isn't looking good!

(10) 150BC: ...

We need to get Shanghai up to being a ~15 spt producer. That means chopping jungle and then merging workers in. Sorry about the lost units and good luck to our next ruler! Consider switching to Monarchy.

-Sirp.

The Game

My vote is Monarchy. I really don't want to deal with WW when we have just 2 cities.

I hope we gained enough workers to offset the merges. Our worker count was pretty sad when I had the game and we have a lot of jungle to deal with.

=======================

So who wants to rule next?

I am in withdrawal, I will see how much I can botch this for ya in
a few turns.

'Got it'

Grimjack

150BC(0) It is a dark and ominous omen that during a time of stress such as this, Grimjack enters the throneroom.
All our neighbours are furious with us, and two of nthem are even at war. Grimjack is not known for his gentle
diplomacy. Rather the opposite...
Very well we will see.
Check out the Carthaginians. They would pay us 70 for peace and monarchy. Tempting, since I would think it would be to our advantage if they went for the King. I go for that. If we are ourselves going for MOnarchy, then a two front war is not
good during anarchy. Going for MOnarchy would net us two more food, and two more shields as our land is right now.
However with the three mps, we would be able to lower our lux taxes.
Taking a gamble with the korean war, I trigger the revolution. ( Also, doesn't look likely that republic will enter anytime soon from Great Library. )
Get a four turn anarchy. MM cities for food abnd happines. Short three food in Beijing with two clows and a taxman. Beijing
breaks even with a clown.
Finally move border guards into Beijing to be closer to Korean soil. They will feel our wrath when King Grimjack will finally be recognized in our entire empire.

IBT: A single Korean archer and an ARcher/Spear pair approaches our borders from either direction.

130BC(1) Hmm, it is possible to bribe Carthage into war with Korea. Wouldn't that be funny. I do not trust him though, so no deal. Greeks jstill has monopoly on Engineering.

IBT; Hmm, lonesome archer doesn't dare enter our territory. Perhaps he fears the righteous wrath of our famous HOrsemen.
The spear/archer pair gets company of another spear.

110BC(2) I return guards to spices, hoping to lure out the spears from the surrounding jungle.

IBT: Lonesome archer dooms himself as he enters our road network.

90BC(3): Charge... Lose a hitpoint, but otherwise no problem.
KOrean Spear fortifies in jungle :o ... Hope they get sick. KOreans are ready to talk peace. If we pay for it....
As WW is not a factor, and Koreans look pretty harmless thus far, I decline. We will get a few new workers out of
them before peace is something we want.

IBT: All hail King Grimjack. Another Korean archer starts the long trek to our killing grounds. A Korean spear
enters the grass outside Beijing.

70BC(4) Death to the foreigners. ( or slavery. ) Our veteran horse promotes as he easily kills the foreign spearman.
Cathedral in 8 no matter how I put my citizens in Beijing. Will see how they do once mine in iron mountain is finished.
Shanghai has 28 shields left on its Temple, so I put them at the evil 7 spt and +3 food. Lux is dropped to 10%, netting
us an income of +44 gpt. Under the chieftains we only had 33, so hopefully this will pay for itself in 13 turns.

IBT: Carthaginians are wasting shields on Hanging gardens. Beats me why they would deprive the horse of all that good fodder by getting the gardens up in the air.

50BC(5) Hmm, I can shave a turn of Cathedral by mining iron mountain, but that would make growth of Beijing a distant probability. Hmm, I achieve the same effect by merging in a worker. I will do my damndest to see Beijing reach 20 spt.

IBT: The Carthaginians are either wasting all tehir production, or our spies could not see the difference between Lighthouse and guardens. Later Korean city of Seoul completes Lighthouse. This makes Greeks look at guardens.

30BC(6) We have 51 gpt and Cathedral in 4. Beijing is now producing 19 after corruption. Since Korean Archer is nearby,
I will mine Cattle instead of Plains.

IBT: Koreans tire of waiting in the Jungle. They enter killing street. The lone archer enter our eastern killing street.
See a Korean Sword coming in from the fog.

10BC(7)Sword takes spear without a scratch. Our two elite horse takes out the remaining archers losing a single dot each.
I gasp in astonishment as Jungle clearing shows a Bonus grass in the south. Aaah Lets take a short while to rejoice in a city welloiled. Beijing at size 12 is zero food surplus and 20 spt after corruption. Chopping jungle may reveal a bonus grass, letting us have a food surplus, but for now, workers will have to go south to clear the more extensive jungles there.

IBT: Temple finished in Shanghai. City can go 10 spt, and I set it to this, and start cranking horse. Swordsmen would give more bang for the buck, but horse can be made into RIDERS!!!. Shanghai will have to grow by workers.

10AD(8) Our swordsman goes yellow, but he defeats the KOrean regular sword in the jungle. Greeks now have Republic. Sell
it cheap Alex. Engineering is now prevalent, and our gnomes in the library will soon now have found the relevant volumes.

IBT: As predicted. Engineering comes in. No Republic now, go Chivalry. Horses and iron I say.

30AD(9) Quiet turn.

IBT: Beijing completes Cathedral. Is set to Spear in one.

50AD(10) Worker movement.

So, next leader will get to build up our forces and go to war. In spite of two front war as well as civil war, a rather peaceful interlude. Save ought to be here.

Grimjack
