LK61 - AWM, Inca

Iroquois Must Fall!

Turn 0 - 250AD

Looked over the save, and did a bit a stratigizing. Science can be moved to 50%.

IBT: An elite American warrior attacks our Chasqui Scout from accross the river, and the warrior loses badly.

Turn 1 - 260AD

Construction researched! Set research to Fuedalism. Science bumped to 70% (Fued in 6 turns).

Cuzco: Worker->Worker (micromanaged again)
Tiwanaku: Horse->Horse (Can't wait for those knights!)
Vitcos: Library->Market
Anda: Spear->Spear

5/5 archer vs. 2/3 spear (bombarded it with the cat) - wins! We got a Great Leader!! [dance]

Decide to build an army with the GL. We need that iron connected, too.
5/5 horse vs. 3/3 ame spear - wins, and picks up 2 free workers! (no GL this time)
4/5 horse vs. 3/3 ame warrior - wins, and picks up 2 free workers! (no GL)
4/4 horse vs. 3/3 ame archer - wins.

I'm gonna make an army of horsemen (it's gonna be awhile before that iron is hooked up). For now, we'll have a Gallic Sword-like army.

There's a settler of ours, but I don't know where he's going. I'd assume 1 tile NW.

IBT: Iro 3/3 archer defeats our 2/5 archer, but is redlined.

Turn 2 - 270AD

Huamanga: Court->Spear

Used the army to get a quick win on the redlined archer.

Riobamba founded.

4/4 chasqui vs. 3/3 archer - retreats, but knocks a hp off of the archer.
2/5 horseman vs. 2/3 archer - loses.
5/5 horseman vs. 2/3 archer - wins. (stubborn little archer!)

IBT: yipes! America has swords! "Our people want to build the Heroic Epic! Maybe we should..."

There's also an Iroquois galley by Atico that unloaded 1 archer.

Turn 3 - 280AD

Cuzco: Worker->Worker (MM)
Tiwanaku: Horse->Horse
Vilcas: Library->Horse
Anda: Spear->Spear

4/4 horse vs. 3/3 archer - wins.

Turn 4 - 290AD

Cori: Library->Market
Huamanga: Spear->Spear
Oil Springs: Court->Spear

4/4 Chasqui vs. 3/3 Iro Archer - dies without a scratch to the archer!

Attacking Tonawanda...

12/12 Horse Army vs. 3/3 Spear - Wins without a scratch!
12/12 Horse Army vs. 3/3 Spear - Wins, but loses 4 hp.
4/4 spear vs. 3/3 archer - wins, but it redlined.
8/12 Horse Army vs. 3/3 Spear - wins, and takes the city!

Bump lux rate to 10% (Machu Picchu's getting a little upset). Science can be lowered to 50%.

IBT: American sword attacks our Chasqui, but it retreats. We build the Great Library! Americans are building the Temple of Artemis.

Turn 5 - 300AD

Cuzco: Worker->Worker
Atico: Court->Barracks
Tiwanaku: Horse->Horse
Ollan: The Great Library->Horse (I feel like we're starting to over extend ourselves...)
Catta: Court->Worker
Anda: Spear->Spear
Arequipa: Temple->Library
Chuto: Temple->Barracks

Built a worker into Ica. Nasca is connected.

5/5 horse vs. 3/3 iro spear - retreats.
4/4 horse vs. 3/3 iro archer - wins.
4/4 horse vs. 3/3 ame spear (it was in the fog) - retreats (spear is 2/3)

IBT: Ame sword attacks our chasqui scout and "recaptures" their 2 workers (and killed them! The atrocities!!). We get the Republic from the Great Library!

Turn 6 - 310AD

Huamanga: Spear->Spear
Vilcas: Horse->Horse
Nasca: Court->Temple
Pampa: Temple->Horse

Started bombarding the sword next to Allegheny.

4/4 horse vs. 1/3 sword - wins.

There's a couple of more units coming down, BTW.

Turn 7: 320AD

We have researched Fuedalism! Medival Infantry!!! It's a debate between Engineering and Monotheism. We have quite a few rivers we have to cross, but we need knights, too. I go with Mono.

Cuzco: Worker->Worker
Tiwanaku: Horse->Horse
Ollan: Horse->Horse
Vilca: Court->Harbor
Anda: Spear->Spear
Ica: Temple->Horse
Juli: Library->Barracks
Chuquipo: Court->Temple

3/4 Horse vs. 2/3 Ame Spear - wins without a scratch!

Turn 8 - 330AD

Huamanga:
Spear->Pike
Vitcos: Market->Pike

Bump science up to 60%. Machu Picchu goes to SunTzu. Upgraded a warrior to a MI in Anda. Anda switched to MedInf. Rio switched to Pike. Tonawanda switched to temple.

IBT: Iro Archer attacks our spear, and wins. Our Golden Age is over!

Turn 9 - 340AD

Cuzco: Worker->Worker
Catta: Worker->Worker
Oil Springs: Spear->Temple
Vilcas: Horse->Horse

4/4 horse vs. 2/3 iro archer - wins.

Attacking Centralia...

13/13 Horse Army vs. 3/3 spear - wins.
12/13 Horse Army vs. 3/3 spear - wins.

There's an archer left.

Bombarding swords by Allegheny. Units redlined.

5/5 horse vs. 1/3 sword. wins.
4/4 horse vs. 1/3 archer. wins.

Turn 10 - 350AD

Tiwanaku: Horse->Horse
Ollan: Horse->Horse
Huanuco: Horse->Horse

There's a swordsman next to Centralia. I could take the city, but I don't want to tempt fate (fate being the American Swordsman). I fortify the army (It can heal in enemy territory). Lowered science to 40%. There's 2 horseman units on the forest west of Allegheny who are coming to assist the army. There's another stack forming south of Tyendenaga.

Sometime around mid-chat, we were starting to run out of units, probably because we were building lots of libraries, temples, courthouses, and markets. But, our war machine is kicking up again. with some 26 horsemen. We have several cats in Allegheny, which are waiting for the swords to come down. (America seems to be focusing on that city). We're pretty much ready to take another 2 Iroquois cities in the next few turns (they probably don't have much left).

Sometime around mid-chat, we were starting to run out of units, probably because we were building lots of libraries, temples, courthouses, and markets.

Welcome to the delicate AW balance. I really pushed the building to take advatange of the GA. We are probably still short, but we got a lot of the needed courthouses done.

350 AD (0)
I swap Cusco over to settler. We have a ton of land to fill in and we don't have enough worthless cities to build them in as yet. We should also be making a settler factory out of Arequipa as well. I will arrange it to build settlers after its library finishes.
(I) Another American sword appears. They want to go after the horses and not the city. Vitcos Pike->Pike

360 AD (1)
I swap Cattaraugus to a settler and rush it. Rush the Rax and Atico. The swords are bypassing the cats so a couple of horses step out and take out both of them. The two horses join the army and can attack the city and take out the other sword. I might send the army north to do the reverse Sherman's march and take out the iron and horses if America has them both. I hold up a couple of spears at Atico so they can upgrade to pikes next turn.
(I) A couple more swords come down from America. Atico Rax->Settler, Cori Market->Heroic Epic, Cattaraugus Settler->Worker, Ica Horse->Horse, Arequipa Library->settler.

370 AD (2)
Upgrade three spears to Pikes at Atico. Hold a warrior who desires promotion to MDI. Pull back the two horses that killed the sword last turn as we will wait for the current two to clear the forrest before we assualt. The army takes Centralia without getting a scratch gainsing us three new slaves. It pusshes on the take out the sword in the forrest behind the city but takes some damage. It will heal before starting off on pillaging duties. The three workers start roading their way back towards the core. Pull some workers to Machu Picchu to get them mining Grassland. I would rather see a wonder building city working Grass with one shield rather than that nasty water without any shields. We have a barb camp between us and Grand River.
(I) The swords move towards the city this time and a settler/spear pair appear. Cuzco Settler->Settler, Tiwanaku and Ollie Horse->Horse, Andyhuaylas MDI->MDI

380 AD (3)
We clear the barb camp and a stray barb. That pays for most of a spear upgrade. We wait to see which way the two swords go. Drop Science a notch to get some income going for upgrades.
(I) The two swords head south they then form Dallas right by the Allegheny. The Iroquois send an archer to attack the horseman who cleaned out the barb camp, he dies to give us another elite horseman. Huamanga Pike->Pike, Vilcas Horse->Duct, Vitcos Pike->Pike

390 AD (4)
The settler from Cuzco is heading west BTW. Steal a mined BG from Huanuco and give it to Machu Picchu. It grew last turn so we have to bump luxes up to keep the work on Sun's going. We send an elite and vet to take out the two Swords and get another elite but no GL.
(I)A barb horse appears from east of Centralia and threatens our new slaves. Juli Rax->Pike.

400 AD (5)
We lose one horse but get another elite in razing Dallas. We then take out another sword and get an elite from that. Seven horsemen head out to take out Grand River. We found Caxamalca on a hill to fill in the gap above the choke point. The army takes out the barb horse and heads for the encampment. All the other horses retreat to heal from the ashes of Dallas. I move the horse in the west to get better coverage and find a barb camp.
(I) America sends a sword and a spear. Tiwanaku, Ica, Huanuco Pampa and Ollie Horse->Horse. The Portuguese complete the Great Lighthouse. Expect visitors soon.

410 AD (6)
The army takes out the barb camp and moves towards Caughnawaga. It is on the way to American territory. We lose a horse but capture Grand River. I abandon it when I get another settler up here and move it to a better location. We do get 4 new slaves out of it. On top of that the American settler/spear pair we spotted a while back was standing next to the city. We take them out and get two bonus slaves. All six begin roading their way back to the jungle.
(I) The Anerican swords head for Grand River, they have a new target. Cuzco settler->settler, Cattaraugus worker->worker. Arequipa settler->settler, Chuquiapo Temple->market, Piobamba Pike->Temple.

420 AD (7)
We raze the next to the last Iroquois city bagging another slave. This one will not raod the way home it will just high-tail it. We get the last mined grass for Machu Picchu and shave a couple more turns off of Sun's. We clean the barb camp to the west bringing in a needed 25g. We are running in the red for science. I will take it down when the current research completes. It doesn't look like I will get to take the last Iroquois city out. I need to heal troops and there are at least four swords headed for Grand River.
(I) Two swords hit a band of horses causing two to retreat an archer tries to do the same and dies. Two of the other swords head back in the other direction. Tiwanaku and Ollie Horse->horse, Chuito Rax->Pike

430 AD (8)
Turn Science down as Engineering is due next turn. We kill the two offending swords. The army ventures into American territory.
(I) The swords move towards the south.

440 AD (9)
We move deeper into America. The horses are healed and 7 advance on the Iroquois capital.
(I) The Americans attack our army and nearly kill it. It retreated but it is on the ropes. Vitcos Pike->Pike, Andy MDI->MDI, Juli Pike->Pike

450 AD (10)
Pull the army out of American territory and towards home. I take out the last Iroquois city and two of the four swords near it. The other two swords are hurt, but we are exposed. I may have pushed it here. Settler and pike pairs continue west. I didn't send as many north as the area still isn't as safe as I would like to extend ourselves.

I was moving the cats towards Grand River and this now seems the hot spot. It may be better to split them in two just in case. The troops are hurt and we may lose a couple from counters but we have enough building up to hold us against America until knights arrive. Until Sun's finishes and we can turn down luxes we are hurting for cash fro either reserch or upgrades. It may be time to turn off unit production until we hit knights and save money up for upgrading. Sun's is due in 18 turns, it started at 34 IIRC.

The army will have to pull way back and heal. It seems that horse armies get no respect. Maybe they realized what I was headed to do. There are three settler/pikes moving to fill in the west and get them to the point they can produce military.

I did manage to take out the last four Iroquois cities and even one American city. The Iroquois are gone, but America will be a tougher nut to crack. I do suspect that they might lack horses.

The Iroquois are gone [dance]

One down and America is next...

It may be time to turn off unit production until we hit knights and save money up for upgrading.
Well I wouldn't totally stop, but we could sneak a few building in cities that haven't gotten all of them. I suspect we still have decent cities without markets or libraries.

I am glad to hear the free labor pool is growing nicely.

The problem is that every unit we build is costing us gpt. We are hard pressed to keep up what we want and to be able to pay for it. Once Sun's finishes we can adjust thinks, but right now it is a pinch.

Lk 61

450 AD (0): My how things have changed. Getting units to the north will take some time. I will continue to build some but will try to focus on markets, temples and libraries in our core and courthouses where appropriate. Cash is going to be an issue and not sure if pushing with the research is the best plan but we can't slow completely until we get to knights. I hope our horse army survives it is at 1/13. Will strongly consider a couple harbors and begin forming our armada. Change Huanuco Pampa from horses to Harbor. Change Tiwanaku to a duct, extra food going to waste without it.

460 AD (1): We have a new enemy! A galley appears in the East. We are now at war with Portugal, owners of the Great Lighthouse ofcourse. They are up invention and thats it. Cuzco builds a settler starts another. Will pick up a pike and head north. Found Sausa in the hills to the west. Starts a temple. Kill a wounded sword but no leader. Moving cats northward. Bringing pikes to the north as well. Retreating wounded.

470 AD (2): Abe attacks and we kill a sword in the mountains south of Cincinatti and retreat a horse near his SE boarders. Atico builds a settler starts a temple. Korea builds Temple of Arematis and Portugal starts Leos. Continueing with the military builds. Finish a duct in Vicalis and start a pike. Other just continue pumping out horses. Vet horse cleans up a barb camp. Continue moving the army away from danger. Moving cats to engage Cinci next turn. Swap Ica to a courthouse. Change Juli to a granary with the Flood plains food it can use it.

480 AD (3): Lose a wounded horse to an american archer. Cattaraugus builds a workers starts another. Take this time to get a granary in Vitcos. Moving units to hit Cincinatti and NY.

490 AD (4): Tiwanaku builds a ducts starts a Granary. Huamanga a duct starts a market. Nasca a temple starts a granary. Without any culture expansions and no settlers nearby I capture and decide to keep Cincinatti. Build town of Tambo Colorado in the northern hills.

500 AD (5): Ollantaytambo takes time out from horses to start a market. Cuzco continues with settlers. Andahuaylas builds a MDI starts a courthouse. Found Huaca on the once Iroquios coast. Readying stack to hit NY soonish. Waiting for the Army to arrive before heading out of Cinci. Upgrade that lonely warrior to MDI.

510 AD (6): Easily capture New York. Our culture is strong so I keep it and we pickup a new lux. Build New Cuzco in the NE corner. With our new Lux I drop lux to 10% and research to 40%. Mono is due in 8.

520 AD (7): Lose a horse to a sword in the woods across a river with cats :p. Vilcas builds courthouse starts a granary. Huaras builds a courthouse starts a Marketplace. General cleanup of various swords. Begin getting units to hit Washington. Continue to move units to the front lines and settlers to open spaces.

530 aD (8): Arequipa builds a settler starts another. Juli a granary starts a pike. Pampa builds a harbors starts a galley. Found New Tiwanaku on the West coast.

540 AD (9): Tiwanaku build a granary starts pike. Cattaragaugus still needs more workers. Oil springs a temple and starts a barracks. Vitcos a granary starts a horse. Found New Machu Picchu on the roads to the Americas. Readying units to hit Washington. Capture Atlanta easily.

550 aD (10): Washington should fall next turn. Didn't attack this turn. found New Ollantaytambo in our southern tundra. Vilca... builds our first galley.

Not a lot to do here. New Ollantaytambo is building a spearman without a barracks, so I switch it to a barracks. It will receive a pikeman from somewhere else.
Hotrod has left a few troops unmoved, so amongst other things, I kill one of the two barbarian galleys that have been hovering outside Vilcabamba (I remember them being there from my previous turn).
The stack of troops next to Washington is a little vulnerable. I hope that there's no American swordsmen hiding in the fog nearby. I'll fortify them for now, so that the catapults get a shot next turn.

IBT:
A swordsman walks out of Washington and totally bypasses our stack (guarded by the horseman army). He's heading to New York.

(1) 560AD
Bombardment of Washington shows that there is one veteran and two regular spearmen defending. After taking two hitpoints off each of them, the yellowlined veteran is dispatched by the horseman army, and the other two are defeated by a veteran and elite horseman. I move all available units into the city to quell resistance.
And that swordsman heading to New York? He's gone now, defeated by an elite horseman.
The remaining barbarian galley next to Vilcabamba is destroyed.
A setller standing near Huanuco is directed towards a piece of free land SE of Oil Springs, where a new city will be founded.

IBT:
The Americans come begging for peace. They also move a settler/spear pair in range of one of our patroling horsemen. I note that they have 13 cities remaining.
Tiwanaku - Pikeman -> Pikeman
Corihuayrachina - Heroic Epic -> Pikeman
Vitcos - Horseman -> Horseman
Juli - Pikeman -> Pikeman
Chuquiapo - Marketplace -> Aquaduct
The people add a second floor to the palace.

(2) 570AD
The American settler/spear pair is defeated and we gain another two slaves.
Three regular swordsmen are next to Washington. Unfortunately for them, I can move nine catapults into the city and bombard them. I bombard the two sitting on a hill first, and redline both of them. The third swordsman, standing on our silks, loses one hitpoint. Two elite horsemen are sent after the swordsmen in the hills, both win and the second one gives us a Great Leader, Huascar. He is immediately pulled back to New York, where he becomes an army. We lose one veteran horseman taking out the third swordsman on the spices, but he is taken out by a second horseman.
New Corihuayrachina founded. It's not on the coast, but avoids wasting several grassland tiles.
Push science to 60% for one turn to bring in Monotheism.

IBT:
Monotheism comes in, Chivalry research started. Science dropped back to 40%, due in 11 turns.
Cuzco - Settler -> Settler
Andahualylas - Courthouse -> Marketplace
Huanuco - Galley -> Aquaduct

(3) 580AD
An uneventful turn. I bring two catapults out of Washington to bombard a swordsman, and nearly lose an elite horseman finishing him off. Our horseman army, now fully healed, comes out of Washington to cover the catapults.

IBT:
Niagara Falls - Temple -> Barracks
Cattaragus - Worker -> Worker
Ica - Courthouse -> Marketplace
Arequipa - Settler -> Marketplace
Taboccocha -> Courthouse -> Barracks
Portugal begins Knights Templar. I hope they don't have Iron and Horses.

(4) 590AD
Frag a barbarian camp.
It takes seven catapults to redline a swordsman on a hill next to washington, but an elite horseman cleans up. The army is sent to cover the horseman, who is next to another swordsman.

IBT:
Two Portuguese ancient cavalry are dropped off next to Grand River.
Tiwanaku - Pikeman -> Pikeman
Ollantaytambo - Marketplace -> Library
Corihuayrachina - Pikeman -> Pikeman
Vilcas - Granary -> Cathedral
Vitcos - Horseman -> Horseman
Juli - Pikeman -> Pikeman

(5) 600AD
Another elite horseman, another regular American swordsman... and another Great Leader. Atahuallpa heads back to Grand River to form another army. I am keeping these armies empty to fill them with knights once Chivalry comes in.
I kill one of the ancient cavalry with a veteran horseman, but we lose a regular horseman against the second one. These were the only units in range. I pull our empty army and a worker away of Grand River to be safe.

IBT:
The remaining ancient cavalry disposes of our redlined horseman.

(6) 610AD
New Huamanga founded.
That ancient cavalry is still a problem, as there are no horsemen around to deal with it. Some are on the way though.

IBT:
Huaca Is attacked, but the ancient cavalry impales itself on our pikeman. Two more are offloaded though :(
Cuzco - Settler -> Settler
Chuito - Library -> Aquaduct

(7) 620AD
I shuffle some pikemen around to bolster defences in a number of cities that are under threat from the Portuguese ancient cavalry.
An elite horseman manages to dispatch one of the ancient cavalry, so our cities are safe, at least for this turn.
Our Great Leader reaches New Machu Piccu, and transforms into an army.

IBT:
Grand River Is attacked by the remaining ancient cavalry, which wins against our pikeman. The ancient-cavalry-killing horseman remains though.
Our people want to build the Pentagon.
Tiwanaku - Pikeman -> Pikeman
Machu Piccu - Sun Tzu's Art of War -> Pentagon
Corihuayrachina - Pikeman -> Horseman
Vilcabamba - Galley -> Galley
Vitcos - Horseman -> Horseman
Nasca - Granary -> Pikeman
Juli - Pikeman -> Pikeman
New Tiwanaku - Worker -> Worker
Portugal starts Leonardos, and complete Knights Templar. So we have to deal with crusaders as well as ancient cavalry.

(8) 630AD
The final ancient cavalry is defeated by a veteran horseman.
Begin advancing on Philadelphia. En route, a couple of American workers are taught the ways of the Inca.
Bring science up to 50%, Chivalry due in 3 turns.

IBT:
Cattaraugus - Worker -> Worker
New Machu Piccu - Worker -> Worker

(9) 640AD
Swap Machu Piccu to palace placeholder, and Juli to Pentagon, saving two turns on the Pentagon. Next Great Leader may want to rush this.

IBT:
OK, so there's a large stack of troops outside Philadelphia. What's a poor AI to do? Tell their swordsmen to flee the city that's what. Did the Americans take the French slot? Nationality bashing is a no-no, even in succession games. -- Chieftess
Oil Spring - Barracks -> Pikeman
Portugal begins the Sistine Chapel.

(10) 650AD
I bombard the two spearmen defending Philadelphia, and the cowardly swordsman on the mountain. All three units are killed by elite horsemen, and Philadelphia is captured.
Bring science down to 30%. Chilvalry will come in next turn. Time to eliminate America methinks.
Both unfilled armies are in New Machu Picchu. There's also a bunch of settlers and pikes heading in that direction.
The galley on the East coast is in a strategic position to intercept incoming Portuguese galleys.

Oh, and I forgot to sell our barracks... There may even be some under construction too.

Have fun.... 650AD

Got it - I can't believe it is already 650AD.

I may get it done tonight, but probably tomorrow.

:D Pentagon in 620AD very nice

Looks like Portugal will be a bit of a problem. Can we get Knights Templar? I don't recall seeing any ivory anywhere?

I once had the pentagon in the BCs. Although, it would've taken forever to build, and it was on an archipelago map. :)

OK, how about its 650 AD and the post count for this thread is only in the 70's...

650 AD (pre-turn)
We have several workers improving tiles by our hopelessly corrupt cities in the former Iroquois lands. I won't argue with roads, but mining is a waste. I cancel a few worker orders.

I can't believe the victory screen shows us already with 26% land and 38% people. This is with quite a few cities still needing cultural expansion.

660 AD
It is time to start upgrading and get some knights into play.

680 AD
We are down to 1 hp, but we sink a Portugal galley.
American is nice enough to add 2 more free workers to our labor pool.

710 AD
Knight armies vs. spearman are brutal, and Houston (American iron source) is razed. American no longer has an iron source. :D

I also capture Boston, and it comes with 2 more free workers.
(I) Gack - Korea completes Leo's. The wondrous Portuguese complete Sistine.

720 AD
A stack of 4 swords is attack by our 8 catapults. The silly Americans walked right up to our best artillery stack. :crazyeye:

740 AD
Our knight armies strike again and Chicago is captured. St. Louis is razed as we have no troops to occupy it nearby. I want to rip America to death with the knight armies.
New Vilcas is formed.

750 AD
San Francisco is razed, and our 2 knight armies can head toward the newest American capitol of Miami.

Summary:
The governor is Cuzco is being very stupid. This city requires constant MM with growth. Cuzco should stay in pure worker / settler mode. Even if all we do is build workers to merge into other cities, don't stop pumping out the workers.

We need to get more core cities up to size 12. Corih... can hit that goal by irrigating the grassland and using more forest. We do just as well with shields, and we up our commerce. By taking advantage of agricultural and deserts we can get Ica up to size 12. I got Nasca up to size 7 and it can gain at least 2 more sizes with another irrigated desert.

I would be surprised is America lived past Meldor's turn.

I have turned science down some to give us some upgrade money.

:lol: I love how we set things up for Meldor! I'll see what I can do. I'll play it later tomorrow.

Someone has to do the dirty work. If you get it done before that, I will have to builld the fleet up.

We need to hold off getting to know the second civ on the other side as long as possible. Get the most out of the GL slingshot.

I would be suprised if this one made it much past Cav.

OK, I'm up. :) I would think we need to start building a fleet now. We're at war with a 5-movement-galley-civ as it is. Apparently, there must be a space just small enough for them to hop over. (Carracks soon to come, too). Gonna go eat something then finish off the continent (or try to).
